I did more than witness it, I lived it, I am a Londoner, I was a skin in the 70s, and went through the punk era and into the Romantic, I saw the Pistols, Clash, Jam Banshees, and any other band from the era, I've seen OMD, Big Country Duran Duran, Billy Idol, U2 Depeche Mode, Cure Ech, ou name them I've seen them all many times. There are many many good bands around today influenced by the 80s. And I've seen, Pink Floyd, The Who, David Bowie, Grateful Dead and Zeppelin.
Gosh I wish you could of witnessed and experienced what I did in 79 to 85 while I was a teen, never thought I'd say I'm happy to be turning 50 this year, such brilliant memories I have:)
coming from Coventry, and having been through much of the skinhead stuff with my older brother, I was so glad when the Specials came along, the best time in this sad city for music, it was everywhere and always live, good, bad and indifferent it was real.......all the 2 tone bands made a real difference to music but so did so many others who didn't quite make it, just amazing at Specials gigs though, and I went to a lot....magic!
As a 100% child of these days, saw them a million times , was a skin (BRIT) punk and new omantic, lived my youth and loved these days and bands. I say Rhinna and Gaga, will also be listened to in 30 years, because people like them. Music is timeless, sadly you and other people are shallow. And I still have a T shirt that Johnny Rotten spit on
How sweet,i remember i was a Punk,my neighbour was a Ska,everybody was part of some scene. The fight between Punks and Skinheads on picadilly. Fun time
I did too, you will be about my age (50?) I seen all the stuff you are talking about and a few different ones too. I was with the gangs you talk of ( edit) .The point that is being made is that in 30 years time, the music you and I talk of will still be classic stuff. I can't imagine that Gaga and whatever stuff will be remembered as classic. In 20 years she will be forgotten about, the kids need a music revolution to get them excited about music again, apart from a few rock bands that are good,
Brilliant simplicity. And that guitar intro. And the face of 1.28. And Terry. Besides, the climate and the text reminds me of the matter ACTA and Anonymous in 2012 in Poland but I just can not associate who today would be Bernie Rhodes, which is not to argue
The youth had something then now what they got only corporations & there music , the corporations have taken over our lives totally just take one moment & think those sold enough to remember .
too right what a time it was, i was (still am )a punk loved it, my kids don't seem to have the same tribalism , totally loved my time regret nothing, punks skins oi, feel old noe hahalol
i was at infant school... and this stuff was played at such shindigs... i mean, what would the equivalent be nowadays for pre-pubescent yoof to be listenin to - now that it's all homogneous pap!? getting sent home from school disco (last day of term etc) for having a teacher play the clash... now that's my claim to fame... and a beating from older brother cos i scratched his disc...
good stuff mate im now 48 and i am still a mod and will be to the day i die, mods 69 skins are the best.keep the faith and stay away from the cowell x fuckers . We are the Mods
so true, what n era.i think the kids were more stylish.my parents played all their pock n roll whilst we were doing are own thing, respect ................
let's not get into petty politics about best band, for me 2tone was the most life affirming/ changing movement to ever come out of Britain, and it shines a shameful light on those pricks who voted brexit for the ignorant views on immigration. the specials, madness et al, deserve massive respect for the cultural impact they made to a Britain in flux.I love anything associated with 2tone,and it helped me become the forward thinking and tolerant man I am today- black and white unite! (all other Creed's welcome!)
I was born & bred in London, when i was a kid, it was mods & rockers, as I got 15, 16, skinheads had evolved from the mods, so i became a skinhead, then as fashion evolves and changes a lot my generation became punk, then we smartened up and become romantics, just a passage of fashion. Only plastic round here is your comment and lack of knowledg
i don't even know who rhianna is, just because you don't like it, does not make it crap, as long as there listeners, then it's ok by me, as I said, peoplare boring, not music, if i don't like something, i just don't listen, I don't go spouting about it all over yt, after all, you have to be listening to it, to know you don't like it.
It's only a f*ckin' shame Johnny Rotten advertises butter nowadays. lol But it's the same with everybody except Lemmy. Lars Ulrich wants another coupla billion, but Lemmy will appear in an off-Hollywood movie for the price of a bottle of Jack. And he hates filming!! lol
( continued) most of it is crap. I was hanging out my washing and from next door I could hear the 'music' the kid next door playing. All it contained was f... thid f...that and lurid references to sex with women and slap my bitch up. What in the hell is that? I lived the late 70's and 80's too, the music and the energy, I just wish my kids now had the same, I mean even my PARENTS had Rock and Roll!
TWO tone till I die 🇬🇧✊ I'm 54 and been dancing to it since I was 14 in the 80s pure class 👌👌👌👌

one of the finest bands to come from.the UK.
Love this! Aged 13 we had this AND 12" Prince Buster in the box. 32 years later all my favorites are on youtube and the tech is better than Star Trek!
TERRY HALL ANOTHER POSSIBLY UNDERATED BRITISH ARTIST R.I.P.

Even though we had the beat, bad manners and madness, these were the best in my opinion.

I love going to see The Specials play live, a place full of middle age people like me but we still know how to dance :)
PURE SKA , the BEST and the beat ... The Specials were the first Ska band to make a wave. English beat close behind
