ISLAND CLAWS was never released theatrically, but had its network television premiere on CBS in 1984 and was retitled NIGHT OF THE BIG CLAW. The special effects on this production was supervised by Academy Award-winning effects supervisor Glen Robinson (EARTHQUAKE; THE HINDENBURG; the 1976 remake of KING KONG; and LOGAN’S RUN). Those four movies all received a Special Achievement Academy Award for their respective visual effects.
My father, Don West, was the production auditor for this flick. I remember he took me to the set where they had the prop for the giant crab. I was 10 years old. That thing was huge.
You may have met my uncle Tony Rigo (Joe) As a young kid playing with hot wheels and Heman this was the next coolest thing and the movie that got me into monster movies. My uncle never made a big deal of the movies he's in but I remember how proud he was with this one 🍻
I remember this one too. I Loved watching all those old tv disaster movie-sof-the-week -the first time anround, and instantly know them by the music. This was a fun movie that did the best it could on their budget, no doubt. Love the roaring giant crab, and bits of humor. And especially that compassion was shown for the people seeking asylum . Thanks for sharing this.
I’m just starting watch this fellow one lady says they are 62 well I’m 72 and feel 22 but will enjoy this movie love from 🇦🇺 you guys so far I’ll let you know how I go with this flick all the best
Video The ”Mysterious Island” crab actually was a real crab. I suspect it was alive when filmed, it didn’t look like stop-motion. Anyhow, they ate it after they had used it for filming. No ”No animals were harmed during the making of this movie” at that time. During another film in recent time (don’t remember its name) They used a lot of fish and after filming, they brought out grill equipment and planned to eat those ”actors”. But, the animal defending people Said ”NO! You can,’t do that! That,s not allowed!”
I enjoy watching these old flicks , saw 1 a couple mons ago that I hadn't seen since I was in grammer school , it was about a giant octopus . I couldn't believe it !!!!
WFTY 50 in Washington DC showed lots of ultra obscure sci Fi and horror films in the late 80s. I'd never heard of this one or "Zatt" or "Memories in my Mind". That last one I mentioned is one of those that has to be seen to be believed, it's so jaw-droppingly bad . Thanks for this.
The Garry Seven story was being used as a pilot for a spin off series about him and the girl who was with him, but unfortunately it never got made. They were used more as central characters in that episode then the normal cast for that very reason.
I remeber when they shot this movie on Virginia Key Fl.They consrtucted the set which was later used in some Miami Vice episodes. We found out later was financed by Columbian Drug Lords. They used it in their smugling operations.

How lucky you were, to be there. It's something you have for life
Cooooooooooooooool. That would have been amazing for sure. :)
Awesome, thanks for sharing that! I bet you have a lot of cool memories.

That’s not true my father was the guy who did that
It was good to see Robert Lansing, Nita Talbor and Barry Nelson.
Wow that was amazing that the actors kept a straight face in the presence of the ferosious growling crab !
So many great looking people in this film. This was very much Americana in the 70’s. Better times.
I thought this was a great movie. Good to see all the old actors. ❤️🇦🇺 9/10
Thanks for the awesome sauce movie! God bless us all AMEN!
The giant crab looked great, but it moved so slowly that I could have walked away from it... and I'm 65! 😃😃🤪
Maybe it was because it got so big it’s sheLo was too heavy

Pretty fine cast and flows along nicely. A good watch…
Makes me think of “Mysterious Island” with Ray Harryhausen’s giant stop motion crab.

Your description of Memories in my Mind interested me, but I don’t find any movie with that title. Is it also known by a different title? Thank you 😊
Actually not bad. Who's up for some red lobster? 😂
Robert Lansing (Moody) played Gary Seven in the original Star Trek series.
