  • In this travel tour around Flagstaff Arizona we explore the downtown area on the First Friday. Flagstaff is the third largest city in Arizona and home to Northern Arizona University Lumberjacks. We walk around the downtown Flagstaff city center checking out some of the breweries and restaurants. Flagstaff is Northern Arizona's main hub.

Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. If you are thinking about moving to Arizona feel free to subscribe and check us out on our other channels.

Thanks for sharing! I grew up in Flagstaff, 1976-1985, born in Phoenix in 1971. Since then, I have lived in all four corners of the USA, traveled extensively (35 states, 5 continents, 25 countries). As of lately, now in my 50s, I have been looking at moving back. My father is buried there, and I would like to retire around Flagstaff; it will be like coming home. Lots of mileage under my belt. Ready for the quiet life. But it sure has grown! It was only 40k in the 70s.

I think Flag would be more affordable I'd they had built more apartments and condos rather than large single family homes, especially considering the town literally has a limit as to how much it can sprawl.

Thanks for the "First Friday" walkabout in the downtown area...I really enjoyed it...Boy that was quite crowded and uncomfortable for me more than a couple of times walking on the sidewalks. But then I'm from a small rural Northern California coastal town. I super love where I live so just letting the Arizona folks know that I don't want to move there, but just occasionally visit. They can get real protective and testy about us Californians moving there.

My brother lived there in Flagstaff for a while but now lives in Williams in a house where it is on solid rock and he has to have a cistern or water holding tank for his water to use and drink in his house.
Most jobs in the Flagstaff area are primarily tourist related or hospitality related. If you are able to be a remote worker there, it would be great for you there. Any other jobs would have to be jobs where you can work independently or on your own. In other words there is not a lot of industry there at all.

I drive up from Dewy and visit there a couple of times a year. Very nice city, and I enjoy myself every time I go there. At 7000 feet the summers are about 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix and about 15 degrees cooler than here in Dewey. So the temps are favorable for about 7 months out of the year in Flag. That is fine if you like a cold winter as there are winter sports available there including downhill skiing. I have seen snowmobiles too.
Think of Flagstaff as being in Southern Michigan as the elevation puts you in much the same temperature zone. However Flagstaff is dry, which is a plus over Michigan. Flagstaff can get a LOT of snow, so you will still be shoveling the snow off your driveway and you have to drive in it. If you are thinking of retiring there keep that in mind. You are not escaping the winters if you move to Flagstaff.
The Prescott area has more of a Tennessee kind of temperature zone, with out the humidity. It has a very mild winter, and the summer is much cooler than Phoenix, but warmer than Flag. A nice happy medium.
Phoenix is more like Miami without the humidity. Nice 7 months out of the year but relentless heat for 5 months.
If one were to choose a place to retire, keep that in mind, as elevation is everything here in Arizona.
Still, many have 2 homes. One in the Valley (Phoenix, Tucson, and the surrounding areas), for the winter. Then another home in Prescott, Flag, or around Show Low in the summer. Not a long drive.

Thanks. Your post is very informative regarding the differences in weather from Flagstaff and Prescott. I’m moving to AZ but I still need to explore cities more and spend more time there. Currently I’m in the PNW and I want to get away from the snow ⛄️ so this was very good to know.

    • @cashstore1
      @cashstore1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@patriotgrammy5273 Remember also when looking for a home you are also buying into a neighborhood. Check the neighborhood out. Are there low rent homes around? You may not want to live in that area. I picked a neighborhood that is about 95% retired people with money. The homes are all nice and kept up. I have been here 14 years and not heard of one home being broke into. I don't know anyone that had their car broke into.
Also, keep in mind the size of the town. The bigger it is the more traffic. Shopping is also important.
For the most part traffic is not a problem in any town in Arizona if you avoid the Phoenix area, and Tucson.
For me, I was looking for high desert (about 4500 to 5500 elevation). Not too hot and not too cold. You will find it here in the Prescott area, and Payson. Payson is much smaller but a very scenic town. Very clean like here. The shopping is not nearly as good but still ok. Usually women like a lot of shopping opportunities. That is why the wife wanted to move here. She loves it here.

This was a bittersweet video to watch. Flagstaff was my home from 1994-2016. I lived all over the city at different times and worked many different jobs in Flag including WL Gore and NAU. The main reason I moved away (back to the Midwest) comes at 5:17 in the vid - NAU. College kids made that beautiful town unlivable for me personally. The university presence wasn’t at all bad in the 90s, but as politics became more of a factor, the town started to take on more of an uncomfortable feel.
By 2015 I had had enough of vacuous liberal elites and coffee shops with man-bun wearing hipsters that I had to get out. I had aged out of that scene.
It’s so unfortunate, because as an avid mountain biker, snowboarder and lover of history, Flagstaff was perfect for me for a long time. I still go back to visit every other year or so.
I know every inch of that town and miss it terribly, but don’t regret my decision to leave.
Word of warning: the college kids have really taken over that once quiet, cool mountain/ski town. It’s not like in Tempe (ASU), where you can escape them into a much larger city.
The whole damn town caters to these woke little turds. Every bar, restaurant, store and establishment you go into on Milton/route 66 will be inundated with annoying college kids. It just got real old.
That being said, I wouldn’t trade any of my time living in such a beautiful, unique, historic town. I still miss the train noise, the smell of the ponderosa pines, and the convenience to places like Sedona, the Verde Valley and Phoenix.
I see my favorite pizza place in the video - Alpine Pizza. It’s been there since 1973, but you can see it in its former incarnation in the opening credits of ‘Easy Rider’ as well as other parts of the town.

Agree on your take of Flagstaff as it is now. Have lived here since 1975. It has definitely changed through the years. Was very conservative (business people and ranchers) but now very woke. Our older neighborhood is still blue collar but I did have a career at NAU - don't miss it AT ALL! Thanks for our input.
