Bender's not afraid of being caught making trouble at school. To him, that, compared to what he got from his father, must be a dream.

Bender is a kid? Looks about 30!

Yeah, he looks between his mid-20s-early 30s, which is still young. Too old to pass for your average high school student kid between 15-18 years old, though.
Emilio Estavez and Ally Sheedy were just a couple years younger than Judd Nelson in this film at 22/23 next to his 24-25, but they still pulled of the look of your average 15-18 year old high school students more believably than him. Granted, Anthony Michael Hall and Molly Ringwald actually were high school students of 15-16 years old when they played the roles of Brian and Claire in this film, and they really do look the youngest.
I think Judd Nelson looking/being older than his character’s age actually works for the role of John Bender because he’s supposed to be a burnout and a criminal, though. This is a kid who was living the roughest life of the five Breakfast Club members, and yes, some of that is due to his own poor behaviors and choices with criminal activity, drugs, and not putting in any sort of effort academically, even though he’s obviously smart enough to be doing better. However, not all of it is fault that he ended up how he did. We get a sense that all of these kids have emotionally/psychologically toxic and/or negligent parents when they talk about their home lives and the reason why they got detention, but Bender’s father is the only one who is said to be outright cruel and physically violent towards his wife and son in his behaviors and put downs. His mother sounds like an enabler of her shitty husband and father to their son, who has put both her son and her own well-being on the back burner. It’s obvious that Bender’s delinquency tendencies and fear of commitment in relationships likely was partially influenced by his father.

@@oo-xb6gv BS, take a look at a picture of an 18yo and when he/she is 38yo. So many changes! No teen looks like John Bender!

@@dominicphillip5816 That literally proves my point they largely remain unchanged 😓 a 18 year old isn't going to grow in any meaningful way. From the end of puberty especially to your 30, you generally aren't going to change. Compare a 18 year old to a 35 year old, there is literally no difference both look like average students.

@@oo-xb6gv I guess you have never heard of male pattern baldness. Many male teens can have a full set of hair and loose it all on the top by 25-30! NO teen looks like Bender!
