In this video I set up and try out a new electric fence system / poultry netting, in an effort to keep the critters out of our TNT garden.

It’s working out great so far. Will be ordering another one for next year / doubling the garden.

Think about that tree within your electrified compound, Raccoons, Squirrels, Cats and other varmits will find a way to jump from other trees onto that tree and have a natural ladder in, bypassing the fence. If you move the fence, make sure there are no overhanging branches by many feet. Just my 2 cents worth! Love your videos.

Chip, thanks for the great feedback, that thought had never crossed my mind to be honest. I'm hoping this ends up working really well. Have a spot all picked out to build a 2nd garden next year. Also thanks for the feedback on the channel :)

Greasy Job with the solar electric fence. Didn’t k 10:14 now it exists until now. I learned something today.

Clair's Adventures, thanks for the comment. I have been learning a lot as well ever since deciding to try my hand at 'hobby farming' a couple years ago. Usually because I failed at something and have to find a solution.

How do you keep the weeds from growing up into it? Thanks for showing how the set up works!!

Christie I wish I had a clever response for you... I rely on pulling the weeds out of the rows, at least until the plants get well established (you should see my squash beds, hard to see through the weeks), and for between the rows I either run a small gas powered tiller up the middle or, more often than not I just use a grass trimmer and it ends up looking like a lawn between my rows. I do have one rule, no chemicals, so it has been tough fighting off the weeds. Friend of mine tried straw between the rows, but he found there was just too many seeds in the straw. If my garden was small, I would try cardboard and mulch I think, but where I want to just run the big tiller on the tractor every spring, that would be more work than worth I think. If you crack the weed control code, do let me know :) Thanks for taking the time to write the question, sorry the answer was so disappointing though.

Wait.....no video footage of the fence actually working? THAT would have made for a great "blooper" reel.

There was nothing there yet to attract them yet... I'll set up some trail cams once the crops get more inviting :)

Are you serious? Rhetorical question. I reached out to them and they quickly sent me a replacement. Hope you can do the same. On another note it is working great. Wish I could post a picture of my corn - 9’ tall.

There should be, if you ordered the kit, write them back and they should ship you one. Mine came the same way and I had to do the same.

I wanted to add a shout out to Colin Straight out at H&K Smart Fence where I ordered this kit from. He had seen the video and agreed with my initial assessment that the ground rod was likely lost in transit as evidenced by the box damages and was kind enough to send me out straight away a replacement rod. It also turns out the rod is designed to put the solar charger on top of, and thereby eliminated my other concern of the short ground lead connection. Thanks again Colin!!! 🙂
