    Please note we say the castle is 30 miles south of Bath, we meant to say 30 minutes drive.

      Thousands of people are related to the Hungerfords down the line. I’m a mixed race woman from the US and traced one of my mothers lines back to the Down Ampney cadet branch. Genealogy makes the world a small place.

      @@Tsumami__ genetics also trace everyone to one common woman. My farley family ancestor's (who was the first farley in America) mom was a hungerford. I'm still a Farley.

      Hey cousins. Great grandmother was a Farley and her fathers lineage traced back to Thomas hungerford 😊

    Thanks to this video and Simon’s mention of the beheading of Thomas Cromwell, I finally got straight on the histories of Thomas and Oliver! Can’t believe I’ve been confused by this for decades. Thanks to the internet, we yankees now have access to more British history! Thanks again, Simon and Will. Always a pleasurable journey with you!

      And that was a streamlined version. It felt like I was rattling on to much so watered it down a bit. They had quite a past that family!

    As a direct Hungerford descendant (of six Hungerford grandfathers), this is the best film I've ever seen. The last one totally ignored the interiors of the chapel and the priest's house. I was aware of the Hungerford legacy through an old book, but Fairleigh is now on my next UK itinerary... 🌷

    • @MemorySeekers
      @MemorySeekers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello so nice to hear from a descendant! We are very grateful you think we did a good job presenting the castle and the history. I have to say it was a tough one to do with so much important history and association with major figures of the times! In addition when all the family heirs have the same name that gets equally hard and confusing! We seem to have had a good reception to the video. Thank you for reaching out! All the best.

      @@MemorySeekers It's very kind of you to write to me. I'm not sure how many of us are out here: there's probably a family association of some sort. Once my boots are on the ground at the castle, all of this will seem much more tangible and real...

      It's nice to see that someone from the Hungerford family has found there way to these comment sections. Im a descendant of the Farleigh(changed to Farley) family that was wed with a lady Jane Hungerford. I do not have my family lineage information in front of me. The Farleigh Family is from the same place in England as the Hungerford's were. I know that is where the actual Farleigh part of the Castle's Name comes from not from another explanation that I've seen on a different video. After trying to find What I could online about the family lineage is all over the place but it may seem that the Hungerford and Farley name may have descended from the same Person, at one point in history. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I am a descendant of the Farley's that Helped settle Belle river area in What is now Almont, Michigan. I very much enjoyed the video! thank you!

    Interesting history! How did people live? Eat, dress, etc. Were there priest’s holes, tunnels, artwork, stain glass…. ? Anything of specific interest…… did they have a winery, special tapestries or anything specially unique to this place or did they just live their lives like we do now? Pretty much just living, working, raising families. Even the tombs seemed decorated but sparse in the artwork used. Thanks! I loved the tour!
