Remember those days well, you can see elizabeth prout gardens being built next to the malt shovel. The aids advert too was massive in the 80s remember all the tv adverts and leaflets. What a great snapshot of time gone by. Video and photographs are so important and very precious. Thanks for uploading.
Wow I remember all of this, I was still at School in Feb 1987 but used to travel on the 241 bus from Halesowen to Dudley daily and it passed through Blackheath a few years later. I used to buy all my hi-fi separates from a shop on a road to the left of the main traffic island, called WMEC. Was fantastic stuff they had in there, this was over 33 years ago and I've still got it all and it all works as it did when I bought it. Looking at the video it does look like a trading estate tbh but that's how it was back then. Love the Austin Princess / ambassador car that went by EP Gaunt Funeral directors....What a name for a funeral director ! Excellent archive footage Jared. Brings back a lot of memories. Thank you :)
My husband's grandfmother's family ran a store there, many years ago. St. Paul's was their parish. Thank you so much, Jared, for sharing this valuable footage.
Great video capturing interesting moments in time ... I always wonder what happened to the individuals you see going about their business .. I would've been 18 in this year
Some nice footage here. I remember the old Woolworths (now Heron Foods). The market is still going strong. Sadly no more Cortinas, BL stuff or WMT Fleetlines on the streets today.
Born n bred here so was my father and his parents. Last name Hooper. I was 5 when this was made. It ain't changed too much. There's more added to than taken away but we can all agree we were glad to see the back of the underground toilets lol
4:25 a shot of F E Sidaway, Son and Co. I started working there in June 1988, sixteen months after this was taken. Can't believe how old everything looks back then!!
i helped in the demolishing of the underground toilets on the island there...one of the jobs i had working with sandwell council....bleedin stunk rotten..lol.
@@electricmeatdisco7250 . It was o.k. until you broke the ‘crust’ that had formed on top of the lake of urine that was down there…..I could never hold my breath long enough.
Excellent video *****. The video really is a sign of the times back in the 1980's. Very interesting to see the location of our head office at the top of the High Street, where the High Street and the Bypass meet (shown at 2m.19s)
actually your head office was in shell corner and you had to go up the steps to the office in 1980s about 1981 , i remember becaus i went there with my mom and she got our house from black country housing in vicarage road
Maybe the quality was crap to start with. It was filmed using a Panasonic full size VHS camcorder which weighed a ton and had to sit on my shoulder it was that big. I replaced it with a Sony Hi8 some years later when quality and affordability improved.
@@GibboFrank lool can believe it if im honest and they wonder why its a shithole. They should try allowing shops that am more appealing instead of food.
Jesus! those Aids posters put the fear of god into us as teenagers, I was almost afraid to kiss a girl as a 17 year old in 1987 for fear of dying of ignorance!
Gosh, I remember Blackheath market - my Nan used to buy bags of scratchings, sweets and broken biscuits from there.........happy memories!
And big slabs of madeira cake

I was 1 when this was filmed lol. Was keeping an eye out for my Grandad lol.
The pub sign you see at the end of the clip, the Ashley hotel was run by my aunt and uncle for many years. Memories are all that is left.

It may be 1987 - but it looks more like it was filmed using 8mm cine camera back in 1967! Maybe video upload quality is limited.
