The early years of Audi were punctuated by mismanagement and disaster, before Volkswagen take-over paved the way to success.
Opening its doors in 1910, Audi was named for the Latin equivalent of founder August Horch's surname, which translates to 'hark' in English. The company survived the great depression and formed part of the Auto Union brand, which enjoyed great success in grand prix racing during the 1930s. Audi didn't survive the end of World War II. DKW, an Auto Union company that did survive, was snapped up by Volkswagen in the 1960s and renamed Audi. Following that, Audi established itself as a prestige brand that has led the way in motor sport and technology advances since the 1980s.

It’s so weird knowing Audi made some of their first cars during the rule of kaiser Wilhel ii. Audi was made during the kaiserreich!

August Horch worked for Karl Friedrich Benz before going on to Work at his Own Company and design and engineer his own cars. Similar to Karl; August was a Great Engineer but a Mediocre Entrepreneur.
