    I think my research team gives me the most complicated part of our research , the discussion!
    Not fair to do this all alone 🙄
    + Thanks for ur clarification ☻♥!

      Yes, discussion is the most difficult part for me too. It requires the most amount of thinking.
      When your research team assigns you the discussion section, it could be a sign that they trust your critical thinking skill the most. :)

    Hi, where is interpretation of the result comes

    • @PublishedMD
      @PublishedMD  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When we talk about interpretation of the results, we give meaning to the numbers.
      e.g., the data shows - 60% in group A. Now, you interpret it by giving context. What does the 60% mean? Is it bigger than the other group? Smaller than the other group. Is that an increasing trend? Decreasing trend?
      The interpretation is still based on the objective data. We are not giving any opinion about it. Once we give our opinion - it goes into the discussion section.
      I hope this clarifies your question.

    Thank you as I was struggling with this section in paper writing. I have a question: Should the works of the authors mentioned in the condordant and discordant paragraphs be cited in the literature review, before referring to their works in the discussion section or can you just compare findings with other authors without having mentioned their work in the literature section?

    • @PublishedMD
      @PublishedMD  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I am assuming you are talking about literature review section of the PHD thesis, because in research papers, there is no "literature section" per se.
      In your case, you can mention the authors straight in the discussion section without mentioning them in the literature section IF the reference is not relevant in the literature section.
      Think about it this way - the literature review section of the thesis is to justify why you want to do the research. But the discussion is more to talk about how your findings fit into the current literature. There are some papers that would be relevant in both the lit review section AND the discussion section, and some only in the discussion section.

      @PublishedMD Yes, Dr Jia, I want to ask that sometimes we have so many results to discuss, and so many points are there to be justified which leads to a comprehensive discussion (4~5 pages), so is it fine to have a long discussion in a research paper?

  • @mohamedakif2262

    What would change to the above advice if your paper was on something completely novel? As in, no one else has done it or anything broadly similar. I am having that conundrum currently ans cannot compare my results to anyone because I'm doing something entirely novel in nature. Great video by the way, it was succinct and helpful.

    • @PublishedMD
      @PublishedMD  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi, this is an excellent question. The key to publishing research papers is that you need to be talking about "something new on something old". If you are not referencing your argument based on any previous work, the reviewers will say that there is "no scientific basis". If you can't find anything within your niche, then look outside of the niche. If there is nothing within that field, look outside of the field. YOu could also transcend from clinical evidence to basic science evidence. FOr example, if I do not have any evidence from the clinical outcomes, I will use animal data, or biochemical data to support my arguments.

      Hi, can you clarify what you mean? I will try my best to answer you.
      Do you mean that you got the "Method Section" done, but don't know how to write the "Discussion Section"?
      Or do you mean that after watching the video on Discussion Section, you still have no clue on what to do next?
