      UPDATE; I got a notification that’s someone liked my initial comment, so that prompted me to give a little update. My dissertation result has been released, and I got a first! 80/100 to be precise. Honestly, my discussion chapter was one I dreaded the most as I had no clue what to write. Thanks to your video, I was able to have a clearer idea of what was required of me. My tutor/marker also gave great feedback on my discussion chapter. Again, thank you so so much! God bless you! 😊

    I got confused about how my discussion chapter was going and I got nervous. It made me come here.
    Clarified lots of confusion.
    It's the writers discretion on the structure of the chapter.
    Around a theory... was a valuable advise.
    Helping the reader/reviewer/examiner to appreciate and accept the statistical findings.
    The aim is to contribute to literature😃

      @@qualitativeresearcher As a Sri Lankan I am struggling a lot to do my research in every way. and here we do not have good libraries, I read downloaded e books and research papers with the help of other students who study at the foreign universities. I am watching all your video lessons and I learned a lot... and it is very effective for a person like me. I am going forward to doing a PhD by learning the research method from you and your recommended books. It's really helpful for a person like me who goes on this journey without a grant, electricity, fuel (Sadly our supervisors do not explain this much easily) and all the other issues that happen in my country. if it is not something previously found, discuss it :) If it was, mention the study. If it was not part of the original lit review but you now found that it is consistent with an existing study, you need to go and add this study to the lit review chapter before referring to it in the discussion chapter

    Hi, Dr. Kriukow thank you for this wonderful presentation, it is very insightful. will it be acceptable to discuss the questions one by one in the discussion chapter or compress them into one heading and discuss them together?

    • @qualitativeresearcher
      @qualitativeresearcher  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Either of these would be accepted - the discussion chapter is so flexible, you can do just about anything if you can justify your approach, so you can definitely either go through each RQ, or each theme and discuss it, or you can have some new general heading(s), almost like having an overarching theme for the findings you presented in the results chapter, and then discuss them in this chapter

    How to relate or compare previous literature in a discussion section when prior research was not done on the title or topic?

    • @qualitativeresearcher
      @qualitativeresearcher  ปีที่แล้ว

      at least some relevant research must have been done, even if it is not directly obvious how relevant it is. If, for example, I am exploring Spanish students' experiences in a UK university and this has not been done before, I can talk about similarities/differences between this and research into Chinese students' experiences, etc. There must be Some literature that you are discussing in the literature review chapter surely

    Hi Dr Kriukow, thank you for this useful video! I was wondering what if my study generated similar findings to my background literature, but also generated new findings, do I discuss both of the similar findings and the new findings in depth when I have a limited word count? Thanks a lot!

    • @qualitativeresearcher

I have given this interpretation to explain my results ,, but now I thought it could also be a limitation to the study , is it possible to repeat the same thing again when talking about the limitations ? I'd usually put that in the conclusions chapter, but this depends on the university guidelines. Some also put this in the implications sections, which, in turn, some universities advise to put in the Discussion, so this all depends! :)
