    I'm starting to use the 680 now as my go-to for winging, it's replaced my MA1000.

      It’s so good, it blows my mind how small we can go and still have comfortable takeoffs! Enjoy.

      Hi @Oceanbound. Whats your weight? have you tried the 780? Do you use the 680 in same conditions you used the MA1000, also in waves, can you turn it as good and mantain same level of control?

    • @OCEANBOUND1

      @@RamonSBruhn sup bud! I'm 77kg. I have tried the 780, if I could have only one, that would be the call for me. but I love the 680 for everything it is, and I love the pump and glide of the 880. when you switch from 680 to 780 or 880 to 780, it's just too close to really need the 780 so that was the one to go. I want to use that 680 as much as possible, so yeah, it's going to replace the 1000 in pretty much any situation, at least for now. it carves great, it almost bounces from rail to rail cause the "up" pump is noticeably better than other Armie foils and it's just fun to play with. MAs may be slightly faster, have that decent breach resistance, and have a great reentry into the water... so it's hard to give those things up but I'm not sure I'll be using them cause I really enjoy these HAs. my last 680 sessions I used the 205 tail and that may be my favorite combo in bigger waves over the 180 and 140 cause it just made me a more solid rider, more control but kept everything else I liked about the 680.

    Great video, thanks!! I love bumps, waves and letting the wing go in downwinds. I am 85Kg and use Fg5.0 70l board. I love the HA980 for wing dw, super relaxed for taking the bumps. Now my question. For strong wind (25 knots plus) and bigger bumps I like the HA780 which I tested, need to test yet the HA680. But I have also the MA1000 so dont know if to keep the MA1000 instead and not order the HA780 or 680. Can the HA780/680 and the MA1000 handle the same waves? The control is in both the same? The carving is the same? I dont jump, love to glide, carve the waves and bumps.

      I think the 680 be the go too for bigger days. It’s got an amazing speed range and will handle the extra energy better than the MA1000. I really enjoy the MA800 or MA625 in those conditions but the HA780/680 definitely has more glide and pump. Hope that’s helps.

      Thx!! So you think both, 780 and 680 can replace the ma1000? Do they turn as good as the ma1000?

    Hi there, sorry this question isn’t related to the video, but I am interested in becoming an aeromedical helicopter pilot in NSW and to start training after year 12. I was wondering how you started out or any advice? Great video BTW!

      Thanks mate, appreciate the kind words.
      I was an ex military pilot which is a massive advantage because we get a heap of NVG, mountain and poor weather flying. This is something they look for in EMS (Emergency Medical Services).
      Most of the pilots are ex military but not all. The civilian pilots are just as experienced but work their way through jobs to get the experience. You want to try and build hours initially, then gain your instrument rating. After that you need to get a job multi engine (that’s the first big jump). From there the best stepping stone is from offshore flying and into search and rescue thereafter. It’s here you can gain NVG and winching experience.
      It’s a very long journey to get here, it took me around 15 years of flying to do it. I don’t want to put you off, just be aware of the commitment it takes. It’s definitely worth it. It’s the best flying job you can have. Challenging, varied, great work/life balance and above all give you a great sense of purpose.
      Hope that helps.

    Hi Chris! Great review 👏👏👏!!! What is your opinion for pump stabilizer The 220 glide or The 202 APF Pump?

      I used the 220 Glide with the APF for my downwind journey and the 202 pump stab for flatwater paddle ups. I haven’t used either with the HA range as I wanted to maximise speed and efficiency. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on them!
      Thanks,

    Do you think the 1180 could be a first downwind front wing for a Foil Drive user? I am 72kg and am struggling to decide between the APF1350 and HA1180. Thanks in advance for any tips 👍🏻

    Great review, for DWing what mast position are you using with 1080 on the 7’2 board?

    • @hydrofoilacademy
      @hydrofoilacademy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thanks mate. Great question I was going to put this in the review but I didn’t think anyone would want it. I’ve found the key is to have your back foot over the leading edge of the mast. For me, on the 7’2 board is position 7 for the 1080.

    Great video! I just purchased an HA980 for winging and I’m wondering which tail you think would pair nicely with that for winging swell and connecting bumps? I’ve only ridden it once so far and used the 235 flow. I’ve not tried any shims with it yet, but I was thinking of trying a blue one to get a little more glide. Before purchasing the HA980 I was using MA1225 (and MA1000 in higher winds). Thanks!

    • @hydrofoilacademy
      @hydrofoilacademy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the 980 pairs really well with the speed 180 (no shim) for more stability and dart 140 (with a blue shim) for speed

    • @hydrofoilacademy

      The North SF830 and SF680 are very similar in performance and feel to the HA880, 780 and 680. Both brands are produced excellent foils and I can’t decide which one I prefer.

    Its great that Armstrong has the stripes. Makes it easy to see that wing profile which looks rather round at the top. Question.. how different are these wings from the North MA v2? They look so similar.. maybe the North a bit lesser aspect.

    • @hydrofoilacademy
      @hydrofoilacademy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The new North MA wings are amazing in waves and with power. I love to wing them in some swell. The Armie HAs have better pump and glide. The North MA is probably faster. Hope that helps. The Armie wings are much better all rounder (they span all disciplines). Hope that helps.

    The foiling industry is too expensive, upgraded wing tech is too rapid, entering the sport is not supported by the industry and its becoming too exclusive so I don't see a big future for foiling.

    • @hydrofoilacademy
      @hydrofoilacademy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It is an expensive sport, and I agree the new foils are coming think and fast. Hopefully it gets cheaper and more accessible in years to come.

    • @grahamreed8443
      @grahamreed8443 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I disagree. All the advancement means more used gear from people advancing to new kit. Makes it cheaper overall for new entries. Pretty nice to be able to buy kit almost 50% off if you know where to look.

    • @avinashbikha
      @avinashbikha 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@grahamreed8443good point but then you also buy gear at 50% that you know is outdated. You can do that one season but soon you'll want to join that leading pack. Videos like these 😂 make it hard to stay behind 😂

    Fantastic review thanks Chris! I know you loved the Sk8 (and Eagle), so how does the new HA compare? (im about to swap from Axis to either Army to F-one for winging...might also learn to Sup foil)

    • @hydrofoilacademy
      @hydrofoilacademy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks mate (it’s was me, Gav, in this video 😉). Yes, I really enjoyed both the SK8 and Eagle. I think the Armie HAs have better “all round” user friendliness without sacrificing performance. They are easier to pump and connect and have a lower stall speed. Both the F-one foils have a slightly faster top end and perhaps superior glide. The Armie gear leads the way in terms of build quality, feel, fittings, and covers.
      You won’t go wrong with either but my preference is Armie. Hope that helps.
