She was brought on as eye candy. Any photographer will recognize how they lit her with product lighting. She's exquisitely beautiful, but her character development was amazing and outrageously underrated! Actors are taught to release emotions on demand, but Star Trek has always had characters who displayed very little or no emotion which is very difficult. Vulcans don't display emotions very often, and Data, as an android, had no emotions until the very end and the movies of course.

Fun Fact. Also many of the EXTRAS for the movie THE GREAT ESCAPE had been hired from there. That is maybe why many of those "German Goons" looked so American as another fan had written.
Jeri Ryan saved Voyager undoubtedly, and gave many of us guys a reason to watch it. Not only stunningly beautiful but an extremely accomplished actress who bought 7/9 to life. Watch her mastery of the part, her infusion of that emotionally restrained and innocent character, utterly brilliant and the character swap with the doctor was hilarious and spot on.
It's a testament to Jeri Ryan that she is not only an incredibly attractive woman but is also a talented actress who was able to make the character of Seven of Nine so compelling and more importantly move beyond being the resident sex bomb on the show. In tha hands of a lesser capable actress, this could have easily been a disaster......
the obvious titillation aside, it was a fascinating character exploration and she had many great scenes. When she asked Janeway "will you abandon me as well" was heartbreaking
All I have to say is thank you Star Trek and thank who ever it was who created the character and thank whoever casted Jerri Ryan. Me and the rest of the Trekies will forever be in your debt.
She certainly was a joy to watch, but I loved Voyager because it unleashed the storytelling entirely. Absolutely anything was possible, and it was the most cutting edge regarding possible stories of all Trek series, equal to the original, even surpassing it a few times.
davidsirmons - “The Year Of Hell” was one of the best stories lines of any Trek series. We were right there when Janeway smashed her battered, beloved Voyager into that ship. Her will was iron, as were the valiant efforts of her doomed crew. It was Apex story telling delivered to perfection by an amazing cast. Star Trek Voyager was a great series.

The 7 of 9 character was learning to become human. Every new episode held a certain continuity that she had to integrate into the character. In the episode "Drone" a transporter accident mixes some of 7's nanoprobes with the doctor's emitter to create something of a child for her to raise. The Drone dies and in one scene of her face in a matter of a few seconds she displays disbelief, anger, and every kind of face you would expect from a mother looking at her dead child. It was incredible!
It's amazing really. With Ryan's infinite beauty. I'm surprised she didn't become more of a universal celebrity. I'm an avid Trekkie but I don't know how many people have seen voyager. She should have become a household name by now with tons of endorsements like Chanel or something. Even Sofia Vergara is all over the place. Somehow I feel Jeri always just missed it a little and fell short of explosive stardom and has twiddled away into obscurity. Can't say I wouldn't mind seeing her all over the media :(

seven was one of the best things for the show, not the same as data but you were invested in the character. The character arc was great and the people that it changed around her was good to see in the show. It did become around seven for a while and the other characters had less development but its ok.
I remember the episode where she says to the dude you want to copylate and he goes NOOO and leaves. I was like WTF even the writers of this show ARE GAY. I would have a tear away suit like frank drebin and be naked in 1 milisecond flat!
it's hard to believe, but I didn't know her until a friend mentioned seven of nine after a night out, I said who? he couldn't believe I didn't know. I went home and looked her up in the wee hours of the morning, it was worth it, gorgeous!

She was just a jealous bitch. She was the alpha dog on set before Ryan showed up. And she totally overreacted to what she perceived as a threat. And in doing so made working on Voyager not just difficult for herself and Ryan, but everyone else on the cast as well.
The Seven of Nine romance with Chakotay was totally ridiculous and completely came out of nowhere. There was never a single episode that implied any attraction between those two up until the last few episodes. It was supposed to be Janeway and Chakotay who were going to end up together. I'm glad that in the Voyager novels Seven breaks up with him soon after they get to Earth and the relationship between he and the Captain picks up again.
I know next to nothing about these characters or the narratives involving their relationships. But perhaps this Commander Chakotay was interested in Commander Janeway and she was with him but her duties left no room for them. Perhaps Chakotay sought the same thing with Seven, but it was short-lived as she was a placeholder for Janeway. Seven realized it as well and they ended it. How far away am I from the truth?
All of the other woman on Voyager must have hated Jeri Ryan ! I mean really - did anyone here ever notice any of the other female actors when Jeri became a cast member ? I kind of felt bad for the other actors. I'm not talking about acting skills - they all had that. But with someone like Jeri around, it's hard to get notiiced. And sad to say - that's a big part of Hollywood - whether it's movies or Television. Just a thought.
They simply used stunt/backup people for the crew. There were barely any women shown on screen, unless you count two or three seconds for each appearance, so no one was expected to look like anything. As a regular character, she was supposed to stand out. Probably one of the reasons why she was cast.

A performer might have the voice and look and talent, JR is simply gorgeous and has every single detail including the ability to act very well IMO. Much as I loved the original Star Trek series the only real reason I would watch this series was for the captivating figure and looks of Jeri. Even Janeway caught my attention, definitely more eye catching than William Shatner. LOL.

I think the clothing would have been designed to NOT show that due to our weird ideas of what may or may not be shown on network tv - especially then. And there were many "hot" woman on the various spinoffs. I know my boyfriend during DS9 years loved Keira.
DS9 Kira was indeed a sight to be watched in her uniform, but in contrast to 7of9 she never felt that over-sexualized. 7of9 was really a bit to much. In my opinion it detracted from her character and the actress (the character was pretty interesting, Jeri Ryan was not to bad of an actress) and all of the 'wet dream' episodes of some of the characters regarding 7of9 was just to much, even for a boy hitting puberty at that time. I am not complaining, but if they would have stuck her in a star fleet uniform like as in the 'Relativity' episode, she would still be the looker of the show while still being able to be more than only a looker. Weirdly enough a similar story as what happened in reality happened to Martina Sirtis after she was able to wear an uniform after 'Chain of Command'. She looked great in her uniform, and it boosted the stories she was presented in.
Linda Claudine everyone's always in love with a Mary Sue. Even the holographic doctor came onto her, which would obviously be impossible due to medical ethics protocols forbidding doctor-patient interactions. But even a computer can't resist a Mary Sue.

seven was one of the best things for the show, not the same as data but you were invested in the character. The character arc was great and the people that it changed around her was good to see in the show. It did become around seven for a while and the other characters had less development but its ok.
I remember the episode where she says to the dude you want to copylate and he goes NOOO and leaves. I was like WTF even the writers of this show ARE GAY. I would have a tear away suit like frank drebin and be naked in 1 milisecond flat!

it's hard to believe, but I didn't know her until a friend mentioned seven of nine after a night out, I said who? he couldn't believe I didn't know. I went home and looked her up in the wee hours of the morning, it was worth it, gorgeous!

She was just a jealous bitch. She was the alpha dog on set before Ryan showed up. And she totally overreacted to what she perceived as a threat. And in doing so made working on Voyager not just difficult for herself and Ryan, but everyone else on the cast as well.
Personally, I think that Jeri Ryan is HOT and BEAUTIFUL all over. I hope to see her in future films and/or TV shows playing sexy characters.
This seems really haphazardly put together.
The Seven of Nine romance with Chakotay was totally ridiculous and completely came out of nowhere. There was never a single episode that implied any attraction between those two up until the last few episodes. It was supposed to be Janeway and Chakotay who were going to end up together. I'm glad that in the Voyager novels Seven breaks up with him soon after they get to Earth and the relationship between he and the Captain picks up again.
I know next to nothing about these characters or the narratives involving their relationships. But perhaps this Commander Chakotay was interested in Commander Janeway and she was with him but her duties left no room for them. Perhaps Chakotay sought the same thing with Seven, but it was short-lived as she was a placeholder for Janeway. Seven realized it as well and they ended it. How far away am I from the truth?
All of the other woman on Voyager must have hated Jeri Ryan ! I mean really - did anyone here ever notice any of the other female actors when Jeri became a cast member ? I kind of felt bad for the other actors. I'm not talking about acting skills - they all had that. But with someone like Jeri around, it's hard to get notiiced. And sad to say - that's a big part of Hollywood - whether it's movies or Television. Just a thought.
They simply used stunt/backup people for the crew. There were barely any women shown on screen, unless you count two or three seconds for each appearance, so no one was expected to look like anything. As a regular character, she was supposed to stand out. Probably one of the reasons why she was cast.
Other women on Voyager? You don't say! I'll look for that, next showing.

A performer might have the voice and look and talent, JR is simply gorgeous and has every single detail including the ability to act very well IMO. Like a favorite tune from the 80's a look at her and it's like another world! Her eyes alone! The way the did her hair.

Much as I loved the original Star Trek series the only real reason I would watch this series was for the captivating figure and looks of Jeri. Even Janeway caught my attention, definitely more eye catching than William Shatner. LOL.

CountryHouseGent Did u actually watch the shows? More than one make crew member was always in love with her. I think the clothing would have been designed to NOT show that due to our weird ideas of what may or may not be shown on network tv - especially then. And there were many "hot" woman on the various spinoffs. I know my boyfriend during DS9 years loved Keira.
DS9 Kira was indeed a sight to be watched in her uniform, but in contrast to 7of9 she never felt that over-sexualized. 7of9 was really a bit to much. In my opinion it detracted from her character and the actress (the character was pretty interesting, Jeri Ryan was not to bad of an actress) and all of the 'wet dream' episodes of some of the characters regarding 7of9 was just to much, even for a boy hitting puberty at that time.
I am not complaining, but if they would have stuck her in a star fleet uniform like as in the 'Relativity' episode, she would still be the looker of the show while still being able to be more than only a looker. Weirdly enough a similar story as what happened in reality happened to Martina Sirtis after she was able to wear an uniform after 'Chain of Command'. She looked great in her uniform, and it boosted the stories she was presented in.
Because George Takei turned them all gay. Captain Kirk was the only man Takei never screwed, which is why he hates him to this day.
Linda Claudine everyone's always in love with a Mary Sue. Even the holographic doctor came onto her, which would obviously be impossible due to medical ethics protocols forbidding doctor-patient interactions. But even a computer can't resist a Mary Sue.

Dear Jeri Ryan I'm so grateful to see this side of you cuz during the whole series and then I got very busy in my life touring with my band and I don't think I saw the last season of Voyager but it's good to hear you smiling and having such a great attitude cuz I heard scuttle butt that you hated the outfit there was nothing but bad blood between you and Janeway Oh my God I'm sorry I had a I forgot the actress's name I just blanked out but it was so good to see you in that outfit and smiling and laughing and having such a wonderful attitude I wish I would have knew that back then I was so fascinated with their character and no not just because of the amazing outfit and your statues torso I have always appreciated your character more than I can say in words Thank you so much Sincerely Lionel Eric Sahagun
