Chinese Diesel Heater Install In My Tacoma Camper Tiny Home

  • I wanted to try my hand at installing a diesel heater in my wedge camper. Did I do everything perfectly correct? Probably not, and I'm sure I'll hear about it. But now I have a way to heat the camper on those colder days. I have yet to run the heater all night long since I haven't camped in that cold of weather since the install.
    **UPDATE: after a couple of months and one trip to Baja, Mexico, the heater has worked great. So far my only issue/complaint is the plastic gas can leaking at the bottom port that I created. I kind of figured this would happen, so I may have someone fabricate a metal version with a different fuel port. I may also extend the external exhaust away from the truck more.
    The Chinese diesel heater installation instructions are absolute garbage. Consult TH-cam University and the interwebs for better instructions. ‪@johnmck1147‬ was incredibly helpful.

    As a truck driver, I've used these for years. I avoided having to deal with the ticking sound by using a white noise app on my phone.
    The "one more thing" that you should have in your camper, is a carbon monoxide detector. A nice warm sleep is even better when you wake up from it.

    GREAT install,if you get tired of the pump ticking and the roaring of the heater remove it and put it in a box. you can then place the heater outside, vent the air duct into your rig and BOOM heat AND quiet! There are numerous YT video's showing you how to mount the heater in a box to be used outside of your vehicle PLUS it's now portable and can be used in other locations.

    As a trucker I use this heaters all the time in the winter and love it it uses less fuel then idling a truck and it’s definitely enough to heat that camper up in no time

    Where has this channel been all my life? Subscribed in WI. Nice work on the install. I put one in my cargo trailer toyhauler. Best thing I’ve ever done. Getting ready to add one to my truck, as well, for my camping trips when it’s just a dirtbike on a hitch carrier.

    Nice install, I like the attention to detail. I installed a diesel heat in my box trailer 8.5'x16' and in 35 deg. weather on low it keeps the trailer at about 65-68 a little warm, I will try the eco mode next time. I used a 3-gallon outboard motor tank for my fuel probably won't work for you but was perfect for my setup it's in a box on the tongue of the trailer. During my research I read to pull the fuel from the top of the supplied fuel container to keep from getting the leaking at the bottom. I met the owner of Vagabond yesterday really nice guy and took the time to show me his camper on a full-size Dodge, pretty impressive setup. Keep the videos coming!!

    Are you near Panguitch? I go there all the time.
    You can do a little sound proofing around that pump that helps a lot.

      Like my description mentioned, I have yet to sleep through the night with it on. If I notice it enough though, I may create a more sound-insulated box for it or something.

  • @benjaminbeksel719
    @benjaminbeksel719 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you found this heater installed this way keeps you warm enough? I’m a truck driver and our bunk heaters are the very similar Webasto diesel heaters. They are set up so that rear air return vent has a hose and grate inside the cabin, returning heated air to be heated again. Just wondering if adding that return vent to the rear intake might produce better results?

    • @mattsavage
      @mattsavage ปีที่แล้ว

      it would be more effiecient if the return air came from the heated space, for sure. and vent and some flexi hose through the cabinet could solve that.

  • @robertyoung8289

  • @michelleboone4958
    @michelleboone4958 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's really hard to see for sure but your tailgate is not going to crimp and smash your fuel line is it? No fuel no heat. Just curious because it's hard to see in the video how you have your fuel line routed.

    • @BadassBrunette
      @BadassBrunette  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wouldn't post a video about a heater if it didn't work. ;)
      The Tacoma tailgates have a couple small holes in the crease area that I was able to feed the line through. When the tailgate was closed, the fuel line was not crushed. Worked perfect.

    Make sure you install a carbon monoxide detector/alarm inside where you sleep.

  • @eksine
    @eksine ปีที่แล้ว

    i hope you used sealant around the exhaust hose on the bottom of the heater, that's not airtight. that wouldn't be a problem but you inapprpraitely mpounted it because the reason there is a mounting plate is because it's supposed to be mounted on the floor, not on an elevated platform, you basically defeated the safety mechanisms of the mounting design because you thought it was more convienient. use a lot of high heat RTV/ fireproof silicone sealant to seal the air gaps around the exhaust hose and get an detector
