Every time she sneezes I believe it's love is the best line from this incredible song about a man who doesn't know how to react to the realization that he's falling in love.

This song is a masterpiece in describing the complexities of being vulnerable to someone and protective of yourself.

The last 1:15 of this song might be the best ending of any song ever...easily the best of the 90s that's for sure. An incredible tune that just grows on you the more you listen.

Omaha is a great song from Counting Crows, and the musicianship of the band has always been a vehicle for Adam's storytelling.

My now BF and I knew each other for ~3yrs before we started dating. I didn’t know he loved Counting Crows as much as I did until we started dating.
My name is Anna, so this song means a lot to us💛
He always jokes “don’t fade away”

This was my favorite song on the album when it came out. And then when Recovering the Satellites came out, Goodnight Elisabeth (also track 5 btw) felt like a sequel to me. The same longing for something that wasn’t quite there. In Anna Begins I feel like he is denying what’s there until it’s gone and in Goodnight Elisabeth he’s missing what might have been.
Back to Anna Begins, I love that he can’t sleep in a quiet room and later she’s talking in her sleep and it’s keeping him awake. And “every time she sneezes I believe it’s love” is perfect! He’s falling for her and even the silly little mundane things she does make him feel something.

Yes! This was me and my best friend’s road trip album! Back in the days when gas was affordable, we would take road trips all the time and this was always the first thing we played!

I just happened across this. Counting Crows are one of my favorites since the early 90's. I love this song and I love the emotion and sensitivities of their songs. Adam is definitely a sensitive soul.

Anna Begins is based on an actual relationship he had with a woman he met on vacation in Greece.

@@theaudiophiles7889 Yeah I typed that before you got to it. It was amazing how you had a similar relationship with your own Anna if I'm talking to that person. You are as obsessed with this song as I am to know all that.

@@TristanandIsolt Yeah, I knew this tune from years before my experience, but as I was in the midst of that emotional roller coaster ride it dawned on me that I had heard this narrative I was now living in the form of that song nearly two decades before it became my truth. Without question it helped me cope and get through it, sappy as it sounds. Thanks again for stopping in and sharing your love for the tune! - Andy (The American)

Ugh and the sadness in the line “cause I’ve done this sort of thing before.” Just implying a detachment from the feelings he’s going through “time and time again.” Oh! See what I did there?? I’m loving your videos!

Hah, _"She's sending me messages by moving the curtains, no, that means you're a stalker."_ Funny stuff.
OK, I thought this song was about meeting someone who was sick or going through/just resolved some serious issues and you're trying to talk yourself out of it because once you commit, well be better damn well mean it. Then of course there's an unhappy ending where you are forced to let go and you realize that you really did care that much, but it doesn't matter anymore in the grand scheme of things because it is over. I was wrong. And right? Kinda.
After being a geek and looking it up the song was apparently inspired by a fricken Australian prostitute he met in 1989 in Greece. They agreed to meet at the end of his trip one last time (he wasn't famous or anything yet) and they both decided (well I guess she pushed it and he agreed, I mean what's he going to do, say _"No, I'm an unemployed landscaper in a band who saved some money while living with mom and dad in my 20's to go on vacation! I can save you from all of this!!"_ that there was no way that it was going to work out. Then after saying goodbye he realized that was the real thing that he wasn't ready for. In his own words:
_"It's about when you're in a relationship with someone and you keep denying it's anything but a fling, then you wise up and realize that all along while you were denying it, you were growing closer together."_ which you of course explain at the end and the song makes perfect sense now.

Everytime she sneezes i believe its love was trying to convey when you're in love with someone you love all their idiosyncrasies and you interpret simple gestures as love. Get a chick bro.
