I live in south Florida some of the best oceans and fishing in the world and I only use real ocean water on my tanks I collect it myself during high tide at the inlet never had any problems don’t listen to people and it’s 💯 better and natural and saves me lots of $ i love living by the ocean catching my own sea creatures
I live close enough to the ocean to hear when there is surf, going to try using ocean water, at least on clear calm days when there has been no runoff/rain
Hmmm I live 5 minutes from the ocean and my estate is in front of this brackish lagoon, I wonder if I can collect the brakish water instead, filter it, add some more salt till It’s 1.025 🤔 The beach in front has some clean water too though
Remy, let's make it happen. I'm an Ultra Nobody TH-camr, but a good reefkeeping conversation is a good reefkeeping conversation. That's the beauty of the hobby. And that was a great conversation with Lauren. I didn't realize that her channel hit 10k subscribers.👍🏾
hey Remy, enjoyed that , not sure i'd put water from the ocean in my tank but if it works for her great!! I've been following [ Reef Eco ] it's pretty cool he builds most of his equipment like sump, dosng containers, etc... i think that would make for a great interview. keep them coming!!!!
I would love to have fresh sea water to use VS synthetic saltwater. Cam the fish guy has his huge truck for getting his water for himself and his clients. Great video my friend.
I’m in Australia and can confirm not only can we get Bumblebee Gobies in several online stores but I have seen them for sale in my LFS. That said, we cannot get Bumblebee SNAILS, which is perhaps what she meant (which would make sense in the context of this video, as bumblebee gobies are freshwater, and bumblebee snails are saltwater).
Have you tried a "bumble bee goby" in saltwater? There is only one species that stays freshwater throughout its life span, the others go brackish, some can live long term in saltwater. I set up a nano reef once using only bumble bee, gobies and snails. She does say she misspoke and was talking about bumble bee snails in the comments.
Keeping with the aussie theme a channel I follow is Coral Nerd, he's pretty cool and loves a gadget. I think he'd make a great interview for you! th-cam.com/users/ReefNerd
In my mind it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. All of those pests and diseases can (and will) still come in on frags and fish that you purchase from your local fish store. It's common practice in Australia.
@@BahamaLlamaCoral I'm just picturing someone in New Jersey watching this and being like, "WOW, I can just get my water from the shore!" Never mind the ridiculous amounts of pollution present in the sea water in places like that
@@BobBombadil For sure! I'd definitely do some serious testing on the water you're putting in your tank. Especially since a lot of fresh/salt sources mix on the coasts.
Great way to have a bunch of parasites and other chemicals get into the tank made worse by the fact you are getting the water from a boat ramp...... Too bad for the next person buying that car having salt water transported in the boot all the time..... DO NOT DO THIS PEOPLE
As she said, lots of people do it with zero negative impact. Plenty of LFS where I am use entirely natural seawater in their frag tanks and displays. Hell, public aquariums do it! As for it being transported in the boot of the car and that somehow causing issues, you’re aware there are these things called “containers” that can be used to contain liquid and prevent it leaking, right?
Really enjoyed this format! 👍Looking forward to more like it and discovering new channels! For future videos there are so many cool channels out there, how about @queencityreefs or @MogsysAquarium?
I use my ponds water which is super clean and alkaline and mix my salt in it. IMO the local RO water from water suppliers killed my soft corals and fish and guess what now they thriving. I also add a glass of natural sea water monthly to add some bacterial biodiversity. No more algae issues, no aptasia, no more fish deaths and my softies and inverts are multiplying. A natural approach works better in the long run. I top up with pond water. My LFS would never approve this. 😂
Love the video guys. Well done 👏🏼
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you're well!
Thank you!! 🤩🙌
Love the seamless collab! Great to hear from hobbyists from different parts of the world 🌍👍

This was a Great video thanks to both of you for sharing

Great video Remi. Appreciate the introductions to a reefer from the land down under.

Loved the video!!! 🤩Have you seen any of Grand Canyon Reefs TH-cam videos? He is a small creator that would be cool to see/hear more of his tank
I'll be checking him out!
I do the same thing in St. Louis. I use River Des Pere Mississippi Mud water straight into the Reef tank. We are lucky.
River Des Peres water is a special flavor! Don't just go telling people our secrets! lol
just saying where i live here in Brisbane Australia i find bumblebee gobbies at all my local fish stores
😱 you are so right, I meant to say bumblebee snails to treat vermetid snails. Remy! I stuffed up!! Sorry!!! 😬
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh🤦♂️

I want to keep the water from the ocean for max 3-4 weeks. Do you think I can? Does it want a dark place?
Reef under the roof , great small channel
Thank you!!!
Great video. 👏🏻
That is definitely a great idea to bring in new faces that we may still not have heard of.
Definitely! Everyone always flocks to the big guys...there's a lot of good channels out there!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral treasure corals would be my recommendation 👍🏻
May I ask how many times do you need to change water when using ocean water ?
If you're relying on water changes to keep your parameters in check, you'd likely need to do a water change every 1-2 weeks.
That intro 😂😂😂❤️
Lol!!! Had to!
@@BahamaLlamaCoral love the logo on the wall. 👌
Dang missed opportunity with my last video. I want to do the finger name intro thing. Next time for sure!

I'm sure the amount of organic matter would be wildly different...It'd be a good question for salt manufacturers for sure.
