Hello everyone, To use the rear speakers on your configuration, you need to go to the ‘sound’ menu and activate 3D sound (7 logic). And rather than having a concert in front of you, you'll be immersed in the middle of it. Great video, thanks for that.
The exhaust mod for the flaps is great. If you unplug them, operate the car to have all valves open them replug them you can drive permanently with the flaps open bringing more noise. In addition to this, you need to have an X Pipe fitted - this makes the car breathe so much better, improves performance and noise as well. Simple mod by an exhaust specialist should cost around £280
Great video! Fyi, you can make the rear windows gp up, and use the key to control the convertible roof using the smart top module. Its about £400 - but worth it! It lets you open the rood while driving upto about 30mph too!
Thanks, aware of the Smart Top but can't justify the £400 price tag, the X Car-Style alternative is almost half the price and does most of the functions of the Smart Top which I may consider.
Mate, I struggle to hear you in these vids so I switch off. There are very few owners views on the 55 in the UK so I do have an interest, but the volume thing is an issue. Nice car.
Thanks for your feedback, my first few videos were very quiet, new to TH-cam, so was experimenting using a handheld phone, you can turn on the "stable volume" option in the TH-cam settings which dynamically increases\decreases the volume on your device which will resolve the issue. I've recently invested in a wireless external mic and new Vlog camera, so the later videos including this one are much improved.
I'm torn between the two, I like the R171 F1 nose but I prefer the rear of the R172 less girlie, but the deciding factor for me is the modern interior and more powerful and advanced V8 engine.
Awesome thanks for the info 🙏🏻 just one more niggle to mention from my 55 😢- cannot open the window even slightly when its raining even lightly because the raindrops will stream unflinchingly into the car from the roof and sides as there is no channel or gutter to stream the water away like with most cars. Can be very irritating. Otherwise very similar experiences as with yours here in sunny South Africa 🇿🇦
I had a 2015 R172 AMG55 SLK with all the AMG packages dark grey on black. I bought a show car from Mercedes so they didn't miss many options (and I got a 2 year warranty)... I only had one issue with the car and it was that one of the locks on the bonnet. The only mod I did was I put on a RennTech EVM (Exhaust Valve Module) to enjoy that V8 sound more: th-cam.com/video/n6RksUm7cXA/w-d-xo.html Oh, I did have another thing - the car eats tires like crazy. I think it was the settings AMG had to do because they cheated (didn't widen the body to fit wider tires) or possibly the brake vectoring..? I hade to change tires after every 12 000km.
AMG had setup this car with quite an aggressive camber in order to match the handling with the performance to offer. So unfortunately it's not uncommon to go through a set of tyres every 8-10k miles, usually the inner edges wear into the canvas before the rest of the tyres reach their limit.
Invest in a Smart Top. Easy to install plug and play behind the rear bulkhead. You can then remote operate your roof well away from the car at any angle, programme the windows to go whenever you want plus you can drive faster to open or close the roof too. Well recommended

@@AJpro88 agree the 7g gearbox is generations behind so does need getting used to since my previous BMW ZF box in sport mode was so much more responsive in comparison.
great upload many thanks 🙂

My previous owner already X-Piped it with resonator delete, I added the flap delete kit on top of this to keep it open at all time.

The R172 SmartTop price has unfortunately gone up over the years, but is a worth while addition 👍
Buy yourself a squeegee to brush off the water before opening the boot or folding the roof when wet. You won't have to wipe anything up
Always spray your hose or jet wash from the front or you will get ingress. Also use Krytox or Gummi Plege on your seals
I have done a similar mod to the comand button too - nice touch
very informative video, thank you.
You are welcome!

SLK55 R171 much better looking and aura car

I don't agree. The R172 is a stunning design.
The Face Lift R171's looked great, but now 14+ years old....

@@leew88 Smart Top is much more reliable
the only thing i would change about it is the trans, either a dct or a manual and it would be perfect.
dct are piss poor for reliability

Seal your wheels with Poor Boys cream and you just rinse the brake dust away
