  • How to service a Haldex coupling, change the fluid G055175A2, used on most VW and Audi rear differentials. How to identify the Haldex fitted = GEN 4 units have the filter above the haldex pump and Gen 5 omitted this filter.
    How to service the differential side of the Haldex unit
    • Differential Service -...
    This is a useful video which shows you both ways of completing a Haldex service on your Audi / VW / Skoda car. The tools required are fairly basic from a nose plier, flat screw driver, Groove Joint Plier also called monkey pliers. Ratchet set with different sockets, Hex Bit Socket Set or allen keys, a torque wrench, oil pan, oil pump or syringe. The parts can be seen in the video, main thing is the Haldex service kit.
    It is critical that the vehicle is level during the whole process, especially when filling in the new fluid either using ramps, jack stands, a jack or even a hoist which would be ideal. Vaico, Febi, Liquid Moly, genuine VW, Borg Warner all make the haldex oil / fluid. Borg Warner is the creator of the Haldex system. The process is almost similar to a standard differential service with the key difference being the temperature of the fluid which has to be between 20°C to 40°C (68F = 104F). As seen in the video this can be monitored with VCDS (Vag com) or a probe type thermometer.
    Service schedule is 60,000kms under normal driving conditions. If the vehicle is used in harsh environments, towing or race conditions this will bring the service interval down significantly.

    Thanks! Diy went flawlessly. Those without VCDS you can just start your car engine it charges the pump and pushes the filter out as well. Shut the engines after a few seconds.

    Thank you for posting this, although I'm not sure what was achieved by running the pump from VCDS before filter removal - in other videos I've seen, the pump runs for a few seconds longer then you see the white filter cover emerge to where its full width can be grabbed by a set of pliers and popped out without all that faffing about.

      Yea you do not need to run VCDS i showed it in the video as some ppl will need to do so if the filter is jammed in place due to lack of servicing etc

    Hi, on vcds for me the pre charge pump option only comes up sometimes and not others. Should I also expect to see some oil dripping out once it’s precharged?

    • @AutoBuddynz
      @AutoBuddynz  ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally yes, there should be some oil from the filter as seen in the video.

    I notice you mention torque specs for the Haldex filter. Were you able to get a torque wrench on the top bolt? It doesn't look like there is much clearance. Does the head of a torque wrench contact the surrounding area?

      Correct its very tight in that area. I know from experience how tight to go without a torque wrench. The bolt bolt is easy, so use a torque wrench here if you can. The top tighten it tight but not overly tight. Get a feel of 6nm on the bench with a bolt and nut.

    Hi I'm getting a wobble like effect or vibration accelerating at 2k -2.2k revs on my manual 13 reg Audi Q5, could this be related to haldex oil being low or bad quality

    What did you do with the spring in the filter? noticed you took it out from the new filter?

    • @AutoBuddynz
      @AutoBuddynz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I took it off the new filter as the original one did not have a spring. As I bought an OE kit which is used for many different models hence why at times certain things are additional.

      Pump is never touched at a Dealership level. As seen in this video this model has the filter. The one you are referring to does not have a filter
