Instead of using the term "forgotten", I'd suggest describing the bands you've chosen to feature here as worthy enough to explore further, for those of you who are not already not familiar with them.
Great band who fell between two stools. The rock crowd for the most part wouldn't take them seriously despite the excellent songs on their albums because of their 'bubblegum' hit singles, and the teenyboppers who bought the singles didn't buy the albums.
Well, until last year, they still toured in Europe every year, although only with one original member. My husband went to a few concerts, having grown up with them, and I got to enjoy a gig, too. Sadly, we weren’t able to make the farewell tour
The Small Faces are hardly forgotten - they left a wonderful legacy of great songs. The three that remained after Steve Marriot left teamed up with two guys from the Jeff Beck Group and became simply the Faces. That ended in 1975 and the various members went on to different things: Rod Stewart became a global superstar, and Ronnie Wood fulfilled his lifelong ambition to join the Rolling Stones. Ian McLagan toured with the Stones for a few years and was an in-demand session musician (died 2014), Kenney Jones replaced Keith Moon in The Who. Ronnie Lane is a long and tragic story - he died of MS in 1997 and has a street named after him in his home town of Plaistow, east London called... Ronnie Lane.
Quite. They're also fundamentally a 1960s band, so what they are doing in a video about 70s bands is a mystery. It's true the band did briefly reform after the demise of Humble Pie, but really that's a mere footnote in their history.
UFO, Klaatu, Thin Lizzy, Runaways, 1994, Godz, Humble Pie, Pure Prarie League, Sweet, Yes, Seals & Crofts, Angel, Starz, America, Babys, Thorogood, Grand Funk, Knack, Ronstadt, Nazareth, Outlaws, Poco, Triumph, Zevon, Slade, and so many others from the 70s that I still listen to regualrly. Never forget that I couldn't see the Runaways because they played at a bar (Agora) and I was not quite 16, and I missed out on UFO because they had to cancel their WMMS-sponsored Coffee Break Concert at the Agora. The 70s was a fantastic rock music era.
So awesome to hear you mention "Angel" "Starz" the "Godz". I have albums by all those bands. Remember Sniff n the Tears song Drivers Seat and 707 - I Could Be Good for You.
For the record, I love Mott the Hoople. I have quite a bit of their stuff on vinyl. But it's true that most people have no idea what I'm talking about when I gush about them.
To true fans of these bands, their music is never forgotten. The Sweet have a very loyal bunch, and you do not have to tell true Mott fans what a Sea Diver is because we had a great relationship with the band thanks to Kris Needs.
UFO are fantastic! Saw them live back in 2011, and they still put on a great show. I love the classic Michael Schenker years for sure, but the Paul Chapman years are also great. They are definitely not forgotten amongst us classic heavy-rockers!
All these bands, as you said, did not become mega stars, that doesn't matter. Everyone of them has a lasting influence on music. Still being listened today, as each new generation rediscovers them. Thier music lives on.
The Sweet are not forgotten Their songs are often played on the radio in Germany. But different to other bands that still keep on rocking, they can't cause most of them are dead.
I’m sorry but I disagree with you regarding the bands Small Faces and Mountain both had great music 🎵. West from Mountain went on to become very influential and popular. And Small Faces eventually acquired Rod Stewart who really made the band so very successful.
Here in the UK it might be argued that Nantucket Sleighride is Mountain's big 'hit', although it didn't trouble the chart compilers. The famous riff from the song was the theme tune to the long-running current affairs show 'Weekend World'.
Alex Chilton, Box Tops and Big Star. Rick Wakeman, Strawbs and Yes. Greg Ridley, Spooky Tooth and Humble Pie. Mick Ralphs, Mott the Hoople and Bad Company. How about Brownsville Station or Slade?
BLOODROCK was a hard rock band from FORT WORTH , TEXAS featuring lead guitarist LEE PICKENS and singer JIM RUTLEDGE . They released several albums starting in 1970 that include: "BLOODROCK" ( 1970 ) ; "BLOODROCK 2" ( 1970 ) ; "BLOODROCK 3" ( 1971 ) ; "BLOODROCK U.S.A." ( 1971 ) and "BLOODROCK LIVE" ( 1972 ) . They had the song "D.O.A. " from the album "BLOODROCK 2" ( 1970 ) which the FCC tried to ban due to its graphic and macabre description of a man initially surviving a plane crash but dying on the way to the hospital .The song features an eerie "church organ" sound with a rather somber mood and sirens being heard throughout the song . Both LEE PICKENS and JIM RUTLEDGE left BLOODROCK in 1972 to seek solo careers . After they left , BLOODROCK was no longer a hard rock band and their music stunk !!! Here's a little known fact : JOHN NITZINGER wrote many of the songs for BLOODROCK and when the album "BLOODROCK 2" ( 1970 ) was successful , he formed his own group "NITZINGER" , which was initially a trio and later a quartet .
Mott got back together for a grand tour a couple of years ago and one of my favorite bands of all time. Arial Bender had the coolest stage name ever ! Sweet was also one of my favorites but Brian couldn't handle his addictions. Only Andy remains and still tours but only in Europe. Odd thing is Andy wasn't even their original guitar player. Frank Torpey was. But Andy help lead them to fame. Was friends with Steve Priest for several years
Good recap. During your look back at The Strawbs you showed 2 clips of Free (white pants-Paul Rodgers front & center) who coincidentally is a 70's band often forgotten.
I take exception to two bands mentioned in this video ... The Sweet had three big hits, including one not even in here, "Love is Like Oxygen," which still gets airplay when it comes to classic rock ... The Cowsills didn't disappear, or if they did, they came back and still exist, which is a miracle considering the fact that four or five of the original family member performers have died. If they played a show near where I live, I'd go see them ...
One should never forget that Iron Maiden adopted UFO's Doctor Doctor as their concert entrance track, and I still have a UFO belt buckle, as well as their signature album on vinyl. :)
No member of the Small Faces joined the Stones. Faces member Ronnie Wood was never in the Small Faces, the band dropped "Small" from their name when Stevie Marriot left. The Small Faces did actually reform later in the seventies but never achieved to level of success they had had in the sixties. Rick Wakeman was in the Strawbs and appears on the album Songs From The Wychwood (1971) after which he left to join Yes. In the UK I wouldn't have classed Mott the Hoople as a forgotten band, I would have replaced them with either Family or the Groundhogs.
There used to be a TH-cam channel called The Great Recaps that teetered on the edge of greatness, but somehow it just faded into the ether. It appears that many people just thought it was irrelevant.
Budgie, the biggest and best band nobody ever heard of, covered by Iron Maiden, Metallica (Twice), Megadeth, Soundgarden, Van Halen...... Should have been massive, amazing band.
"SPIRIT" were a five piece band with original members : RANDY CALIFORNIA ( real name: RANDY WOLFE : guitar , vocals ) , MARK ANDES ( bass guitar ) , JOHN LOCKE ( keyboards ), ED CASSIDY ( drums ) , and JAY FERGUSON ( vocals ) . They released three ( 3 ) albums on the ODE RECORDS label : "SPIRIT" ( 1968 ) , "CLEAR" ( 1969 ) , and "THE FAMILY THAT PLAYS TOGETHER" ( 1969 ) . These albums were moderately successful , but their fourth album on EPIC RECORDS : " TWELVE DREAMS OF DR SARDONICUS" ( 1970 ) was the most successful . It took four ( 4 ) years for the album to go gold , however slow initial sales made JAY FERGUSON and MARK ANDES to leave the band and form the group "JO JO GUNNE" .
I wouldn't expect "casual listeners" to even know half of these bands more or less remember them. Alex Harvey, Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople, Steve Marriott, Leslie West, to name a few from this video, none of those guys have been forgotten by us rockers who rocked through the 1970s and are still listening to their music.
Classic bands may come and go, have their ups and downs, break up and reform, retire and unretire... but their classic music will never die, living forever for future generations, on the radio, on TH-cam, vinyl, CDs, DVDs, and whatever future recording methods are invented.
I'd say Dr Feelgood were pretty content with their live popularity and a solid fanbase. Hard to imagine them as a stadium attraction, the smoky bar band they were. It's the only one of these ten I listen to regularly.
Most of these bands are far from forgotten, certainly not in my record collection! Mott the Hoople, The Small Faces and Dr Feelgood are also 'rock titans' in my opinion, and most of the others are close behind. Sweet were one of the heaviest bands around, away from their hit single catalogue. Check out the Sweet Fanny Adams album.
I would add MAN/Deke Leonard , Little Feet, Be Bop Deluxe, Burlesque, Deaf School among other "gems" (depending on your POV) that vanished without trace. Several bands like Dr. Feelgood existed because they were great live bands which didnt translate so well to records. Dr. Feelgood are still touring (albeit without any original members), as are Sweet (1 original member). Lew Lewis' Reformer, Eddie and the Hot Rods, were also big in that scene at the time. As others have noted, Ronnie Wood was not in the Small Faces. He and Rod Stewart joined after others had departed and they dropped the "Small". Two related great bands. You could make the case for several of the "Glam Rock" era bands(1970-76) that arrived, influenced and disappeared. Curved Air, Family, Hawkwind (yep still going). You could also make a case for "The Stranglers" who, although they arrived as Punk started to take off, were talked about as "The new (wave) Doors" and still cast a long shadow on modern bands.
As an American you can be forgiven for the absolute stupidity of this line up. Americans may not remember bands like the Small Faces or Mott the Hoople, Sweet or the fabulous Dr Feelgood but I can assure you they are still well loved in the UK.
Though as I watch this, those UK bands that you say faded (such as UFO, Dr Feelgood and The Small Faces) are still highly recognised in the UK. Meanwhile, some of the American bands that you list, I have never heard of. Transatlantic culture differences, it seems.
UFO hits were “Too hot to handle “ also “Lights Out “ I got to see them twice with Michael Schenker he is a legend and a true spectacular guitarist, his Licks are unbelievable !! Michael left the band in the late 70’s after lead singer Phil Moog punched Schenker in the face !! Moog replaced Schenker with Paul Chapman however after Schenker’s exit the band was never the same,Chapman was a good guitarist but he was no Michael Schenker and it lead to the band unable to gain the fanbase they had with MS !! Moog and Schenker buried the ax and got back together in 1994 !! After the band breaking up again Michael Schenker went on to become world renowned artist with success mostly in Europe but also other places !! Michael Schenker was 15 y/o when he joined UFO him and Moog were a tremendous writing team, the early UFO Albums were really great !! I have always loved this band as long as Schenker was in it !! It was part of the first concert I ever saw they opened for Rush they completely blew Rush off the stage !! I went out the next day and bought every UFO album that Michael Schenker was part of !!
They didn't vanish without trace. Also Small Faces didn't join Rolling Stones. Marriott formed Humble pie and Lane, MacLagan and Jones formed The Faces.
OK, so I loved (and still do) Mott the Hoople' My husband loved UFO, and made me go see them just a couple years ago (no S***), they are still around. Haven't seen the rest of the video yet
What is the point of this ill informed abject rubbish! Many of these bands are still listed to / on major radio stations / some still perform. A pathetic waste of time!
Pretty decent list. So many of these were very influential and are still great. The Cowsills just re-released a 20-year-old power pop album which is amazingly great. Check it out: GLOBAL is sensational. I might lump Wishbone Ash into this group -- one of the best seventies bands.
Tthe cowsills were ruined because their father managed right off the stage. Ed Sullivan booked ten appearances, but canceled after the first, show because dad was such a terror.
I'm sorry but I disagree with you: bands I never heard or never heard of, didn't disappear-- for something to disappear, I had to hear it first. I'm not quite half way through, but I stopped it. At least one of the bands you mentioned, I swear I didn't hear any of their music....so I was completely lost!
Who wrote this crap? Just cos half of these weren't on Top of the Pops every week with a milion selling single, doesn't mean they are forgotten. Big Star included the fantastic Alex Chilton, singer with the Box Tops, he was only 16 when he sang on majority of their hits. Cowsills are still going too.
Very misleading. The Small faces broke up in late sixties. Sweet, Mott and Sahb had huge followings. THe Eighties changed things. You will be mentioning Slade next !!!!!
Who writes this rubbish? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more poorly informed on TH-cam. They also needs to be sacked along with any researches Mott the Hoople disappeared, well not really. Ian Hunter went onto create circa 20 solo albums. Indeed, his last two have included artists such as Ringo, various members of Queen, Def Leppard, Guns N’ Roses, Foo Fighters and the list goes on and on also includes the last thing ever recorded by Jeff Beck before he died. None of the Small Faces joined The Rolling Stones, I assume you mean Ron Wood, but he was actually playing with Jeff Beck at the time(together with Rod Stewart). Ron Wood only became a member once the band had become The Faces. Humble Pie disappeared did they, you mean Peter Frampton didn’t become one of the biggest artists of the 70s? The list of gross and accurate is just goes on and on, there are many more. Hang your head in shame whoever created this.
Is this some sort of joke. Maybe going by the accent it’s an American spin but ad regards the UK you’re talking absolute cack. Most of these bands are very much remembered and get tons of airplay while Andy Scott is still touring with his version of Sweet and they are excellent.
Thanks for watching! Let us know below what topics or videos you’d like us to make next. 🔥👇
Instead of using the term "forgotten", I'd suggest describing the bands you've chosen to feature here as worthy enough to explore further, for those of you who are not already not familiar with them.
Sweet ? Classic group and were wonderful live. Not forgotten......
Great band who fell between two stools. The rock crowd for the most part wouldn't take them seriously despite the excellent songs on their albums because of their 'bubblegum' hit singles, and the teenyboppers who bought the singles didn't buy the albums.

Cleveland representing!
@kallymavromatis123 Although I listened to M105:-)

I still listen to the Strawbs regularly. Classic music.. and they were still touring a few years ago.
I must be old coz I’ve not forgotten any of them ,, mott the hoople were one of the best live bands I’ve seen even with queen supporting them .
Budgie rocked. Never understood them not catching on
You faded into obscurity the minute this vid was over.
No! Not into obscurity! Loved Angel and Starz!
I saw Mott the Hoople at Leeds town Hall and SAHB at Leeds poly in the 70s . Great bands. I would add Family to this list.
To true fans of these bands, their music is never forgotten. The Sweet have a very loyal bunch, and you do not have to tell true Mott fans what a Sea Diver is because we had a great relationship with the band thanks to Kris Needs.
No way, I still listen to 70’s UFO a lot! They aren’t forgotten by their cult of fans
UFO are fantastic! Saw them live back in 2011, and they still put on a great show. I love the classic Michael Schenker years for sure, but the Paul Chapman years are also great. They are definitely not forgotten amongst us classic heavy-rockers!
Didn't actually listen to the video did you? 😂
All these bands, as you said, did not become mega stars, that doesn't matter. Everyone of them has a lasting influence on music. Still being listened today, as each new generation rediscovers them. Thier music lives on.
I saw Mott the Hoople live with, believe it or not Queen in support! 😂
Still listening to Dr Feel good ❤🎸
The Sweet are not forgotten Their songs are often played on the radio in Germany. But different to other bands that still keep on rocking, they can't cause most of them are dead.

Just heard Mississippi Queen on the radio tonight.
Alex Chilton, Box Tops and Big Star. Rick Wakeman, Strawbs and Yes. Greg Ridley, Spooky Tooth and Humble Pie. Mick Ralphs, Mott the Hoople and Bad Company.
How about Brownsville Station or Slade?
Budgie were great, always thought of them as the Welsh version of Rush. (And there were also some other great bands on this list)
Just because bands don't have a million number 1 singles it doesn't mean they've been forgotten about.
BLOODROCK was a hard rock band from FORT WORTH , TEXAS featuring lead guitarist LEE

And they as well as all these bands are NOT FORGOTTEN. They just didn't achieve the commercial success that some of their peers did is all.
Your opening picture showed FLEETWOODMAC do I need to ask anymore ???!!!!!!!

Cool video, UFO is one of my favorites
Good recap. During your look back at The Strawbs you showed 2 clips of Free (white pants-Paul Rodgers front & center) who coincidentally is a 70's band often forgotten.
Love Strawbs, saw them live 20+ times, all since 2005.
I take exception to two bands mentioned in this video ...
The Sweet had three big hits, including one not even in here, "Love is Like Oxygen," which still gets airplay when it comes to classic rock ...

Agree with all you say here, and would add the likes of Nazareth, Gentle Giant, or maybe even Wishbone Ash to your list of alternatives.
There used to be a TH-cam channel called The Great Recaps that teetered on the edge of greatness, but somehow it just faded into the ether. It appears that many people just thought it was irrelevant.

Dr Feelgood were fucking brilliant..Lee Brilleaux,Wilko Johnson..I absolutely disagree with you .Canvey Island legends
Mountain and UFO are AWESOME!
You know most of these bands had their day. Not everyone can be Led Zeppelin. This video is bs
Big Star was an amazing band! RIP Alex Chilton
02:34 Ian Hunter with a member of the Les Humphries Singers 😂
Classic bands may come and go, have their ups and downs, break up and reform, retire and unretire...
but their classic music will never die, living forever for future generations, on the radio, on TH-cam, vinyl, CDs, DVDs, and whatever future recording methods are invented.
FORGOTTEN BANDS OF THE 1970'S :
@0:34 : BIG STAR

You broke my heart so I busted your jaw.
Spooky Tooth
Spooky Tooth did You Broke My Heart So I Busted Your Jaw
Small faces formed and disbanded in the 60s so should not even be on the list
Ron Wood was in Faces with Rod Stewart, ended up in the Stones.
After the Faces, Ronnie Wood fulfilled his lifelong ambition and joined the Rolling Stones.
The two best bands, though I don't know a few of them: Spirit, Small Faces, and Big Star.
the 70's were 50 years ago. almost all bands from the 70's have been forgotten by now. btw, thanks for including alex harvey.
For some reason live videos of Free showed up during the Strawbs segment. Hard to confuse Paul Rodgers for Dave Cousins.
Wow, SAHB never vanished, neither did Mott.
SAHB Still touring.
Big Star was Memphis bar band
I would add MAN/Deke Leonard , Little Feet, Be Bop Deluxe, Burlesque, Deaf School among other "gems" (depending on your POV) that vanished without trace.

Be Bop Deluxe - Oh yes.
Loved Dr Feelgood and Budgie saw them both live!
Another early 70's band that never quite made it, and should have, is Fanny. An all girl group that rocked.
I remember and listen to almost all of them
As an American you can be forgiven for the absolute stupidity of this line up. Americans may not remember bands like the Small Faces or Mott the Hoople, Sweet or the fabulous Dr Feelgood but I can assure you they are still well loved in the UK.
Wow ... Who writes this BS ...
What are you talking about............................ Forgotten Bands???
UFO and Budgie are always on the radio here in the UK
Come on nobody cares about the UK we're talking about the great USA. Just be happy we're protecting you guys.😅
I saw SAHB open for Jethro Tull.
Though as I watch this, those UK bands that you say faded (such as UFO, Dr Feelgood and The Small Faces) are still highly recognised in the UK. Meanwhile, some of the American bands that you list, I have never heard of. Transatlantic culture differences, it seems.

Paul Rodgers in the Strawbs? Wow 😂😂😂
Sahb are you joking, fantastic group
Sweet, or the last member, is still touring.
Stupud list - these are quite known bands.
UFO was awesome.
OK, so I loved (and still do) Mott the Hoople' My husband loved UFO, and made me go see them just a couple years ago (no S***), they are still around. Haven't seen the rest of the video yet
Captain beyond, focus and rare bird?
UFO we're absolutely massive! What have you beebeen
When you started out the video with three 70s bands that were actually 60s bands, I was done 🤦🏽♂️
Odgens Nut Gone Flake
Really do you actually know the history of music?
What is the point of this ill informed abject rubbish! Many of these bands are still listed to / on major radio stations / some still perform. A pathetic waste of time!
um, there is a mess of nonsense in this video.

You could try more recent forgotten artists. Try Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Beyonce - given how well informed you are.
That's all garbage my friend we're talking about the great groups of the 1970s. You know real rock groups😮
Mott the hoople had 7 hits in the uk in a 2 year period ,, Alex Harvey 3 hits ,
2 groups broke up due to death of Steve Marriott. SAHB due to death of Alex Harvey. A version of Sweet doing their final tour in 2024.
I was going to add that Sweet may not have been monster in USA, they had many hits elsewhere. Like you said, still touring. One of my all time faves.
👀Spirit at ✋JAM!
What a load of nonsense this is. Deary me do better.
Stone the Crowes
Pink Fairies
Barclay James Harvest
So, bands from the 70s should still be household names? Not all of us are Queen fans.
Very misleading. The Small faces broke up in late sixties. Sweet, Mott and Sahb had huge followings. THe Eighties changed things. You will be mentioning Slade next !!!!!
Wtf have the small faces got to do with the 1970’s???
The Sweet are still going abit not the original line-up
What a lot of shit i mean you remembered them enough to mention them.
👀 Humble 🥧☺️
In what way are The Small Faces a 70s band?
I thought they broke up late sixties.
10 forgotten bands of the 1970s. First number 13 🤣
Is this some sort of joke. Maybe going by the accent it’s an American spin but ad regards the UK you’re talking absolute cack. Most of these bands are very much remembered and get tons of airplay while Andy Scott is still touring with his version of Sweet and they are excellent.
