I find this quite interesting because the writing is imaginative and fresh! This new take on an old classic certainly deserve to continue with a lot more episodes! Thanks to all those involved in the making of this series!
You should totally make a Remastered version of this series. And maybe a new series/continuation of Captain Scarlett. I loved watching this as a kid, and I still do. It has everything! Cool vehicles, mistery, great story, aliens... The whole thing.
As a middle-aged guy I never thought that I would get all that interested in this series, but after watching the previous series and getting caught up in it, I find myself excited when a new episode of this series " shows up ".
It was so cool and fascinating! They succeeded to minimize turn around time to rearm/refuel for another leg. The fully automated systems really count too. They are good to go!
Yes, but not like this, the dialog in this ep is so childish, like it was written for stupid kids. The old CS was written so as not to insult the IQ of the person watching it. Plus, the CGI is so dated, it looks terrible, they should have animated it.
Agreed. It was a perfect update of the classic series and should have gone on for longer. Thankfully like the original it has a loyal following of fans and continues to make new ones thanks to re-runs like this.
While i loved the original Supermarionation verison of Captain Scarlet, the 2005 version is the one that stuck with me the most, since it was the version i watched on saturday mornings. Thank you so much for everything you've made, Gerry Anderson, my childhood wouldn't be the same without you!
I find Supermarionation nightmare fuel. Those expressionless faces make everyone look like a heartless killer. I found it to spooky to watch as a kid but now I really like the old CS, this new CGI version is terrible. The dialog is poorly written, and the CGI was outdated even when this was new. They went as cheap as they could, and it shows.
For what it is this CGI version wasn't bad, but the magic of Supermarionation was more than just the fantastic puppets, the stirring music, the exciting plots, the brilliant voice cast. It was also the fact that all the effects were "real". You knew that these were miniature marvels of engineering, tiny but brilliantly realised explosions, amazing to-scale movements and interactions. They were amazing creations done with care, passion and enormous craft and skill. They had soul. Ach... maybe I'm just getting old...
With 3D printing and smaller and smaller electronics I am wondering if it wouldnt be possible to create such a series rather cheaply. The biggest effort is getting the "puppet control electronics & mechanisms" set up and designing the vehicles and sets used to be printed. You can blow up a lot of them ... and they are easily replaced.
Agreed. I also think the modern Thunderbirds isn't anywhere near as gripping as the old series. The episodes aren't long enough for proper world or character building.
This is a fantastic Episode, so thrilled to have been CG Director of this epic TV Series and specifically this Episode. We did this 20 years ago and it still stands up today! The team of artists and creatives were groundbreaking individuals you all should be very proud to have been apart of this project.
Northern Australia - bad move. Poisonous snakes, spiders and crocs. Mond you I guess the Mysterons feel at home - alot of the outback does look like Mars
@@peterfmodel the other ones I really enjoyed are Swarm, Rain of Terror, Storm and the end of the World, and my all time favourite is probably Virus - that sequence where scarlet sees a montage of humanity’s worst moments really resonated with me
Jamie, Richard, and company. I have to admit, that all the Edge-of-the-Seat Action, Drama, and intrigue packed into these 21+ Minute episodes, is far superior than any 60, 90, 120, or 240 Minute show since at least the 1990's. Kudos to the Producer, Script Writers and Directors, for bringing back that Olde School way of telling memorable stories, in a short time span. 👍👍10 & 10🌟 with Countless thanks for sharing with us all.
If dull old Coronary Street & Easttenders can last for decades, why can't series like these Gerry Anderson's classics be there again on our screens. Of course new voices etc with the passing of old masters, but the magic is still there!!
I still love the original Angel Interceptors. Had an Airfix model which I built and painted hanging from my bedroom ceiling. All the originals seem solid and more "real" than the CGI versions. Mainly because they were solid models!
Fantastic, as a kid I used to watch the reruns of this, the original series of course aired before I was alive but this is a real treat to see, thank you so much !
Didn't realise there was a remake, had the action figures and Skybase toy as a kid (with the angels of course). Hope todays kids can enjoy it as much as we did, excellent series, launched mine and many others love of sci-fi!
Gerry Anderson had originally wanted to have Francis Matthews and Ed Bishop reprise their roles. But when they did the voice tests, he realised that their voices had aged too much and so he very reluctantly decided to recast the roles.
An amazing episode of a well-imagined remake of such an underrated classic. It was very nice to have a storyline here where the Mysterons actually win - that unpredictability was one of the best parts of the original, and very rare for a “kids” show.
*More! Must have an entire new series from the original forward! 💯👍👌👏 @Gerry Anderson, as you can well see, there is a huge demand to redo Captain Scarlet in CGI. You would, IMHO&E be an instant hit with the Young Adult, Adult, and Tween crowds.*
It's time for the Captain Scarlet feature film ! Actors + CGI (see, for example, the sequel to Tron). True to the franchise, cast properly, and with a complex and great plot.
This is the first CGI version I’ve seen. Watched the puppets back in the 70’s as a kid and loved the program, still do. With this, at first, not too impressed but that surprise ending was classic Gerry Anderson and redeemed it for me. I still prefer the original but the story line here did end well.
Yes! And when Captain Scarlet "fell" to the Christmas scene, it would have been nice to see it happen going back to the famous fall from the 1960s pilot episode.
Obviously Spectrum's airborne warfare school does not include watching 'Independence Day', given that no-one on Cloudbase seems to have expected that Mysteron dreadnought to be equipped with shields. Regarding Colonel White's comments about the 'war of nerves' entering a new phase, one feeling I got from this series was that the slow nature of a war based on terrorism and infiltration was as wearing on the Mysterons as it was on Earth and they were increasingly looking for a quick win. Maybe their leadership had promised their people a quick and relatively easy retaliatory campaign and weren't able to deliver; indeed, the humans were even beginning to push back into Martian space, only being stopped by luck on most occasions. Facing internal unrest, they were forced to adopt ever more overt and conventional strategies. Honestly, I've never bought that that Mysterons' goal is conquest or even general destruction. There are several episodes that show that their technology and understanding of the fabric of reality so superior that they could annihilate the human race almost without effort. Yet, instead, they play mind games and commit terrorist atrocities. Why? Maybe, that's because their goal is only to frighten and hurt humanity the way that humanity hurt them. Exactly tit-for-tat. The real question is: What is their idea of 'proportionate response'?
I loved Captain Scarlet as a child, nice to see it getting a reboot, but it really needs to have the old theme tune and opening sequence, just not the same without them
It hasn't quite got the same charm as the 60s puppet show, but i do like how they capture the same facial features and overall look and outfits from that show. It's very faithful in it's overall look.
I loved this puppet superseries at the beginning, they did a few episodes, as well as the thunderbird are go... now in excellent 3d... the first episode as it is titled...
Man this takes me back to the late 60's and an independent tv channel from Boston. Channel 38 and the Willy Whistle show after school. Sigh.........the years of flown by so fast.
Good to see the Angel Interceptors are taking off from the beginning. Also, it`s a great view they gave us that the Angels are in formation flight. This reminds me of Clay Lacy`s aerial footage during the '80s and '90s and I think the white-painted fuselage really sets off in wild blue yonder. The Angel Interceptors really showed the combat capabilities and the potential they got in this episode and I really loved to see those jets swaggering through the sky. It was impressive to see the Interceptors return to the Skybase for rearming, getting ready for the next outbound run. The Skybase`s hangers are equipped with fully automated systems that contribute and succeed in minimizing their turnaround time to be relaunched. Speaking on military mind bases, in this case, the other squadrons will take off to continue the mission while just returned teams are being worked on however, the Spectrum seems like they are really concentrated on operating just 5 precious Angel interceptors are enough to be deployed without any backup units. I also found out that the skids on each wingtip are not missiles` launching rails, but they are "the skids" to act as the landing gears. This time and regretfully, Spectrum did swallow a bitter pill, however, they will take this opportunity to leap forward for the next battle. The Spectrum will collect every one of the evidence as gathering intelligence for the countermeasure and be ready for whatever the Mysteron`s outcome might be. I felt a strong will in Colonel White`s words in the last scene, as the Angels` white wings are taking off behind him.
Lucky old Captain Black having Destiny all over him like that. Presumably in that sequence she'd had a couple of children and was still hotter than her aircraft's afterburner.
18:04 They Recreated that scene from the First Episode, and I just realized that Captain Scarlet's Appearance looks very different than when this series started
