    I have the same Ranger and my first thought was "How heavy is that already heavy tailgate going to be?" Sure enough, you said it. Something I also noticed is the step can be used as a shelf either inside the tub with that bar locked onto the step or if you flip it down and leave it magnetically stuck then you have a shelf with a rim around it sticking out the back of the tub. Would be handy for a tradie like me as a painter and mixing paints etc.

    Another drawback would be that I have the titan drawers and to get into them, assuming they weren't too wide, I would have to drop the step down to get into them. Which wouldn't be too bad I guess because I wouldn't need to pull the step down into position, it could stay up but If I am in and out of the drawers a lot and need to keep the back shut in between for security then it will become annoying. Then it would be a choice between how often I truly need to get up into the back and how often I need to get into the drawers. For me, getting right up into the back is required once in a while whereas I am getting stuff out of the drawers daily. But every time I'm climbing up in there I am cursing the tailgate.

  • @alvindogma4364
    @alvindogma4364 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It is a good idea but I would rather opt to put a sliding bed tray on my ranger so i do not even need to climb on the bed side. It looks better too and you can organize your truck bed more. But this video is also great :)

    • @DoctorOctane
      @DoctorOctane  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, the only drama with a sliding bed is you limit your height a bit as well as there's a while bunch of stuff to get gummed up with dirt and rocks and things if you ever transport that kind of stuff

    • @DoctorOctane
      @DoctorOctane  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there mate, I've got some info for you :) might need to do some conversions though as my tape measure is in metric only
      Dimensions of the tailgate on my Ranger: external width 1405mm & height 580mm
      Internal flat area width 1260mm & height 515mm
      The tailgate step mounted to the tailgate is width 1280mm (the handle sticks out past the flat area) and height 480mm
      The other thing you might like to know is the height of the tailgate from the ground. My ute has a 2" lift in the rear so the tailgate is 850mm off the ground and this step folds out to be 520mm off the ground
      I hope that all helps, let me know if you need any other measurements mate!

    • @DoctorOctane
      @DoctorOctane  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, you can't really access the bolts under the frame of the step so even if I was to slot out those four bolt holes, access to put the actual bolts in is obscured. Its mostly just a case of muscling it in under the frame of the step and putting the rest of the bolts in that are accessible

    First time on channel, don't know how I got here or what your channel is about but, you don't appear to be a car guy...I think more a computer of salesman of some type. Torx screws anti-theft? um no. So the heads don't strip. And normally they attach as a socket for your impact driver...where the heck is your impact driver? Well heck, at least your giving it the old college try, so hat's off to you for that.

    • @DoctorOctane
      @DoctorOctane  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for leaving a comment mate, my channel's not really about anything in particular.
      Let me try and address your concerns. First of all, there's torx head bolts and there's torx head bolts with the pin in the middle, the ones with the pin in the middle are considered "security" bolts. Yes they're less likely to strip when you insert or remove them but the pin was originally designed as an anti-theft measure and the bots to remove them are marketed as "security torx bits". Nothing to do with being a "car guy". Second of all, I don't own an impact driver. It's very difficult to use a tool that you do not possess and as such the torx bits that I used were of the manual, L-shaped variety. I'd be more than happy for one of my wealthy subscribers such as yourself to send me an impact driver so that I can use it but if it comes to saving for it myself, I have more important things to spend my money on than another cordless drill

Just need to make sure the driver doesn't drop or slide the pallet over the locking handle. Either way no major issues loading pallets

Personally, $1,000 for the practicality of this product and the amount it gets used is money well spent. Especially when you consider a decent set of wheels alone will set you back a couple of grand and provide absolutely no advantage over the ones the vehicle was delivered with. People will spend thousands on just the looks of their vehicle, providing no practical benefit to the user, then baulk at a product that makes their life with said vehicle easier.
