Do you mind snswering what your problem was related to? I’m on fluoxetine 60mg for depression/ocd, havent had a brake and its been 3months now. Its either i switch from this medication to another, or i combine it with something else. Maybe like clomipramine, buspar, abilify etc.

For people who are worried about the side effects don’t let them discourage you. I’ve been on a aripiprazole for a month and only experienced side effects for the first week which was nausea and slight headaches. A month in and no side effects at the moment. If you suffer with energy problems off other antipsychotics try aripiprazole. I went from sleeping 12 hours a day on olanzapine to sleeping 6-8 hours a night with aripiprazole and having so much more energy.

I got prescribed Abilify 2mg and that first month was amazing. I felt brand new, energetic, sleeping and waking early. I was smiling and dancing every morning as I made breakfast. Then for my second month my dose was changed to 5mg. Everything has gone downhill. I am exhausted and drained every day. 😩 I'm not even working right now and don't have kids. He told me to cut the tablet in half so I'd consume 2.5mg. No changes, I'm still exhausted every day. On top of Abilify, I take 20mg Adderall every morning and 20mg Prozac at 5pm.

    • @mgibby63mg

My husband is on abilify & has become a shell. I'm researching now to find out if its going to be possible/how to get him back. I read something where someone had referred to abilify as a chemical labotomy. After studying about labotomies, I'd say that comparison is accurate. 🌿🌻🌿
My husband can no longer maintain and erection and many report feeling "cold & numb" "down there" and have a complete lack of interest in sex. For us, it has also removed intimacy on just about every level, he is tired and uninterested in anything he was previously.
Last thing I'd like to remind everyone of is that drugs affect people differently. I'm sure much of it has to.due with age, toxicity, and each individual's microbiome. Vitamin/mineral deficiencies also play a role. And as a hint here - the general lab tests don't always test for the proper vitamins/minerals...best to demand the most in depth ones available.
Peace & Blessings to all 💛

Thank you for taking the time to reply and give input. All is appreciated.
He has been on this med for 2 years now. The main symptoms (psychosis hallucinations paranoia) have stopped & thats all he really cares about. He doesn't notice what I do about his personality and flat affect. And after doing more research, I'm growing more concerned over what these particular side effects can mean for his, and our futures. Reportedly increased risk of alzheimer/dementia, and a few other things - but these scare me the most. I used to working in nursing in a center for rehab/alz/dementia residents.

      @lora97006 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@lindacarol5982 Thank you for your reply. That actually sounds like a GREAT idea to me. However, I think my efforts have been thwarted. Just last night having a discussion about all of this with him, I learned that he is not interested in even trying to come off of this med/find something different. He doesn't see/feel what I do & his main concern is that he doesnt ever want the hallucinations/delusions to happen again. Neither do I, but he says that I don't understand because if I did, I wouldn't even be asking him to try. I said that he didn't understand what that meant to me...because that would mean that I would have to.spend the rest of my life feeling like I was married to a stranger who acts as though he doesn't want me, let alone care about & love me. That my best friend who I could tell anything to, I would have to learn to live without, same goes for any kind of intimacy (mental, emotional, physical) as well. He doesn't understand that he is a completely different person.
We no longer do any of the things that we used to....he has no interests literally in anything besides being on his phone, sleep, or work. This of course extends to every part of intimacy that a married couple normally shares. When I look him in the eyes, the sweet gentle soul I married is no longer there. I've always been more on the emotional side, a deep feeler. As a child I had always had an effortless but strong empathic connection with others, which has helped me throughout life and in my career in holistic care. What was rare about my husband was that he was kind of that way too making it a very special thing that we were able to share. Rarely did we have to explain what it was that we were thinking/feeling, we pretty much just knew. Our first date...someone had asked us how long we had been married. They thought we were lying when we explained that we had met just hours before. They thought we appeared as a couple that had been happily married for years. It was an instant connection that day. The first/only genuine double take and fumbling over words to utter "hhhhii", I had ever seen & became instantly smitten over. I'm sure the way I blushed was unlike anything I had ever done before & was probably its own site to see as well, lol.
Sorry for the trip down memory lane, but if I can illustrate how devastating this is & lerhaps save someone else from this experience, it is more than worth it to me to share it all.
He tells me I still do not understand. I told him that I may not understand what he has been through because it happened inside of him, but watching it had been one of lifes scarier experiences for me too. I had even wondered at times if he was going to get stuck in psychosis & be gone forever. His delusions/hallucinations had been awful, had accused me and one of the kids of awful things. We were all scared and devastated. The time after that they were even worse & at that time we were in the middle of a court battle in which he called up one of the attorneys while he was in the psych hospital & told them that I was a hitman out to get the lawyers and judge 🤯. I have fought for him, for us the entire way....supposed to be for better or worse right? The place wherea line has to be drawn, imo, is when one person is not willing to even try to fix what is broken.

looking up the half life can hint at that. If half life is for example one day, then it takes your body one day to excrete half of the medicine. so if it has a very very short half life you might expect a faster crash. that said, the long term withdrawals are more likely due to the dependance of your body's cell's receptors to having the drug around. when it's suddenly not around, all the worker cells and DNA etc have to 'learn' to adjust to not having it around, thus adjusting dopamine, seratonin etc levels back to a tolerable level. so depending on your tolerance and which drug, it could take weeks, months or years to wean off of a drug (antidepressant, antipsychotic) especially if you've been on it a long time (e.g. many months)... there are some good vids on YT about tips for withdrawing successfully. watch as many as you can, maybe... get many views from docs, and users... hope this helps.

I was actually prescribed this horrific drug a few years ago, like 8 years ago. And Oh my Stars What kind of awful thing did they come up with there! It was like a living hell from the moment it kicked in until 24 hours later when it finally wore off! I had to go on long walks in one or two mile circuits three or four times throughout the night just to keep somehow sane.

I kind of think so. a family member went off numerous antipsychotics one by one, as each one had bad side effects, and this person was only on each of them for like 2 weeks. when they went off each one, they felt fine for like 2 weeks, and then the syptoms came back and continued for at least as long as they were on it.
example: low dose risperdol, on it just under 2 weeks, went off of it, 2 weeks were fine, then slowly increasing symptoms (anxiety, panic, fog brain) for at least 2 weeks, sometimes ending in ER. that is why tapering very slowly is important, plus having a support person. I am not an expert at all, just my personal experience observing this family member. good luck and peace :D

I'm on this medication, so far, I'm finding that it's rather sedating but better that than akithesia or maybe Tardive Dyskinesia? Can this drug cause Tardive Dyskinesia? I worry about that as when I was on Clopixol that I had symptom that seemed to be in line with what Tardive Dyskinesia apparently is! Absolutely couldn't stand it! I found the most distressing thing was the fact that I couldn't walk for more than a few minutes at a time and I experienced uncontrollable muscle movements! My mental health team seemed to have little if any sympathy for the fact that I couldn't walk for more than a few minutes at a time and still kept giving me that medication anyway! I was so glad when several months later they switched me to Abilify which didn't cause those particular side effects!

abilify is just not a safe drug at all. it turns off your d2 receptor (it blocks it), so that your brain cannot produce as much dopamine as it should typically be doing. the drug literally turns off the impulse control center in your brain. it causes Parkinson's symptoms and can cause diabetes. it should not be prescribed by any doctor at all, and a doctor made that statement, quoted in an article from TIMES or NY TIMES, I forget. it is extremely dangerous and literally reduces the size of your brain. it stops your brain from performing normally. he should ween off of it.

nobody is checking my blood level of aripiprazole. they just gave me 2mg pills and told me to keep taking sertraline 50mg. my head is all over the place but more up then down. I have severe up and down moods with more down then up. That's the reason they prescribed aripiprazole. Can you give me your 2 cents please?

It can, however this is usually a rare side effect (0,1-1%). If you are worried, always discuss this with your prescribing doctor.

I read generic abilify is around $900/month for 15 mg/day dose, and generic is $300/month. so one can only use it if employed, insured. So, if you have income and/or insurance, and you become addicted (it is highly addictive, hard to withdraw from) , you are thus addicited not only to the med but also to the insurance company and the job. correct me if I am wrong, thanks all, peace.

    • @Midnightmoonlightt

This is definitely not true. Even the highest dosage is only 20$ for a month supply of generic.
