    I’ve been on abilify for a little over a month now, and I’ve noticed a 15-20 pound weight gain in the past 3 weeks and food tastes extremely good( which is not a horrible thing)but I’m rapidly gaining weight. I sleep really really well on the medication but I’m just scared I’m gonna become obese even though I’ve been very physically active. Anyone else experience this? I’m on 5mg

      Omg you poor thing - yes this happened to me but i had to use the meds to jumpstart stability to be present in therapy so it was good in one sense but it sucked gaining the weight

    Abilify caused me to have weight gain and increased blood sugar levels as well. Fortunately I had little to no side effects coming off of it (I think it’s because my doctor simultaneously increased another medication), but I’m still trying to loose the weight and my blood sugar levels are still high. I wasn’t on it for long, fortunately, but even in that short period I gained probably 10-15 pounds and it significantly increased my hunger and cravings for junk food. It’s been a month since I’ve adjusted my diet (which hasn’t been to difficult because I no longer have the increased hunger and cravings), started a new workout plan going to the gym 3-5 times per week, and cutout alcohol during the week to help loose weight. I’ve only lost 2 pounds so far, but that’s better than nothing I guess. Thanks for sharing your story and congrats on your weight loss. ♥️

    I’ve been on abilify for 5-6 months. I’ve gained like nearly 10 lbs. I’m on 5 mg. It made my PTSD go away. I see the doctor in about a month. I wanna come off of it cuz I keep gaining.
    UPDATE: I’m now on geodon and it knocks me out. I also feel like my mouth wants to move. Kind of like tingling. I hope this goes away.

      This literally encapsulates my experience minus a few additional side effects in a few words. I didn’t want to come off it bc it helped my ptsd but like the gaining was horrific - it’s been YEARS and I’m almost back to my base weight that feels healthy for me. How about you?

    If you had urges to gamble, hyper-sexuality, binge-eating (which by the cookie story; is relevant to you); you might be able to join one of the multiple class actions set against the makers of Abilify.
    The withdraws that you had after coming off of Abilify are not unusual.
    The numbness in your lips sounds relative to Tardive Dyskinesia, though whereas Tardive Dyskinesia causes uncontrollable muscle twitches, the side effect you had likely goes by another name.
    *Binge-eating is something that has definitely been implicated in lawsuits, so please do your research.
    Take care.

Other drugs that affect the serotonin 2A and 2B receptors are also hallucinogenic . . Abilify works in these same receptors, and can cause hallucinations . . Fancy name for receptors, is 5-HT2a and 5-HT2b, 5-HT is just another word for serotonin . . Would you like to be crazy, Abilify can make you hallucinate, like LSD . .

      Abilify is “supposed” to be one of the few lesser lkely to cause gain but it impacts everyone different. I personally enjoy reading research papers and discussing them with my Dr so I am informed - my question as a friend not a doctor to you both if we were curiously exploring just becoming informed around other options to discuss with a doctor would be what are the diagnosis and more importantly the biggest symptom trying to treat and then reading the overlap - bringing the findings back to my Dr to ask their opinion, I know it’s not easy

    yeah the numbness is quite accurate ... this drug is def anti-psychitoic - basically tells you your body to not feel anything. And you can barely fight it - It feels like you're in a constant dream state. Except the only thing thats keeping you aware are your eyes. And this might sound crazy, but I think the drug does affect your body in the long term as well as your brain
    Horrible drug... I don't have nightmares or anything, but every-time I remember the drug it makes me more, and more angry because I wasn't the same person when I got off of them. And this sort of thing isn't describable unless you've taken it directly which is even more frustrating at least to me anyway.
    First chance I got - I immediately got rid of them, and acted like I was still taking them. It affects your body, but your brain is still there if you can utilize it before taking your dosage. I also made small-notes on my laptop to remember small things or important things, and it really felt like I was fighting myself at times - Getting off wasn't a problem - Lieing that I was taking this shitty drug was.

      For example; this medication is worsening my depression or causing weight gain (because its actually causing that) I will tell them I want 2-3 additional options as well as a list of the side effects - i research the options and think about it for a week or two and then tell them when I’ve decided which one I feel comfortable with trying next - if I need to continue taking it and am still suffering symptoms that caused me to go on it initially.

      I HAD almost the exact same response to effexor -- like it activated a FAST FORWARD version of thinking - SO AWFUL - it started right away too - same thing with Cymbalta? I think thats how to spell it ha. Glad you had the awareness to stop it - Did anything else help!? how are you doing now!

      @Jake Gross strange I did have akethesia on Geodon, like I AN CERTAIN OF THAT - it made me have shakey legs which I NEVER do. I didn’t even see it was happening until months in I think I was on geodon for a year give it take and I think it was very late in the game so I didn’t realize it was from that. I also couldn’t sleep at all and before when I first started geodon it made me sleep like 14 hours a day HAHAHAH meds are so fun
      Saying these things out loud makes me feel like there is something very wrong w the med system HAHAHA dear universe please heal us
      Latuda is the last new medications my Psychiatriast had prescribed that I never took. My friends who have similar symptoms / medication fails have had more wins on very hardcore old school meds - I’m afraid of those hahah but seems like it might be my next try OR a newer one like latuda - the new ones scare me cuz I don’t trust the research out yet hah

    • @GabbyOglesby
      @GabbyOglesby  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jake Gross how do you like latuda

    • @GabbyOglesby
      @GabbyOglesby  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jake Gross 500 mgs of Latuda? Oh my gosh, poor thinng - well actually I guess in some meds you can go super high? Acupuncture has helped me more than any medicine but I can’t afford to go everyday unless I hit my deductible so cuts hahaha the goofiness sounds kinda fun. But any side effect is annoying so I’m sorry you have to deal with this!!! Also it’s admirable you keep trying even though this process can be excruciating. On each new medicine I take I honestly feel like it changes my body and gives me permanent changes to either my biology or neurology regardless if I stop taking it - laughable.

      I gained 40 pounds on 2.5 mg for one year. It makes you pack on the pounds because it increases blood sugar levels. I'm on day four of coming off of it. Anxiety and depression is awful. But it's not worth it to go back on. The weight gain made me even more depressed

      Hi! I am now on 50 mgs of Prozac! I had some gnarly stuff happen to me in the last month that started causing me to have these episodes Like never before so I had to add abilify back in. That’s helped me in crisis moments but the aftermath and side effects are quite complex haha
