I tried for a year or so to purchase one of these in the late 90's and it was impossible. I finally gave up and just bought a Remington 700. I still love the look and innovation of these firearms.

The reason for Blaser changed from the one single piece Al billet to one small receiver mold in plastic stock is increased the rugness? For your own experience, the new model LR2 is more easy to shoot ?

Yes, they changed to a two piece Aluminum / Rubberized Polymer construction because the original first generation chassis was not intended for military / law enforcement service. The first generation chassis had hard composite plastic panels that weren't water tight and had a design that wasn't good for hard use and dirty conditions. Since most of the ergonomics are the same from both chassis, they are equal in terms of how they shoot. Because the newer chassis is almost completely covered in Rubberized Polymer it's much easier to handle in cold weather.

@@discogodfather22 So the new chassis is AL frame but cover with Polymer layer , it might be much lighter than the previous one? Tha accuracy international AWM used the full length AL chassis with side plastic panel similiar with the old blaser and it proved to be super rugged even stike on the concrete ground.

@@safarisauer3160 I had one of the older AI AE Chassis, it was similar but much better designed for rugged use. The first gen Blaser chassis was designed solely for competition and it just didn't lend itself to military use. The panels had gaps that dirt and water could easily sneak into. Some police and military did use it however, including the Paris RAID for some years. The newer Blaser chassis weighs almost exactly the same as the first generation ones did, almost 4lbs.

Nice...I've just acquired a tac2 with .338 and .308 barrels. I have no idea where I will find parts for it. It has 0 compatibility with the r8 or r93.

Well, there are some capabilities with the R93. Most of the small parts in the bolt housing are standard R93. The bolt itself is a standard R93, meaning it can use any of the sizes- mini, standard, magnum, and Lapua sizes.

@@discogodfather22 That's good to hear. The girl at Blazer told me the bolts are not compatible. I'm looking for a spare .308 and spare .338 bolt. I've heard they are tough guns but I always like to have a spare bolt. I've heard the barrels are very durable and will last 10s of thousands of rounds.

All LRS, UIT, CISM, LRS2, and Tac2 Bolts are the same. Try gunbroker online to see if they are floating around in the used market. Some dealers still have them. The 338 bolt (LA) is the hardest to find. Sometimes they appear on Ebay too.
The bolt housings are different but most of the internal parts are the same.

@@discogodfather22 thanks...I appreciate the help. I bought it from a family friend who needed the money and don't know much about them.

I noticed blaser stopped producing these r93's altogether.
I hope there will be replacements parts and barrels for these around for some time to come, since even if i don't shoot out my 308 barrel in the near future, i'd love to try some other caliber options...
