Dear Dolores (and the rest of the Cranberries). I was a teenager in Sarajevo during the war. It meant so much to us when we heard that you're mentioning our city in one of your songs and that one of the songs on the album is dedicated to Bosnia. May God bless you in the most beautiful ways for paying attention to us when very few people did. Eternally thankful Sarajevan P.S. I hope one day we will see you in concert in Sarajevo.
The Cranberries' To The Faithful Departed album is undervalued. The album contains songs like Free to Decide, Cordell, Bosnia, War Child, and Daffodil Lament that are pure gold. The band deserved more credit. Rest in peace, Dolores.
First album I bought as a 14yr old in 2012, thinking Zombie is on the album. Went back to the store and bought "Everyone else is doing it, so why can't we" & live from Boulad bos
What a profoundly huge loss. When I think of Delores O'Riordan I think of an astoundingly-talented songwriter. She wrote The Cranberries' biggest hit, "Linger," when she was 18 years old. I can't think of anybody in the music industry at that age, or really any age, that is writing lyrics like that today. But when I think of the song she wrote that most deeply moved me, it is "Free to Decide," about choosing life over death and forgiveness and freedom over martyrdom. That has always been a struggle for me, and I know it was for her too. I'm sure this song was written in one of those precious, rare times that people like us have, where hope and peace seem so attainable and clear, if only for a fleeting moment.
I understand exactly how you feel. This song came out during the darkest time of my life, a time when it easily could have gone either way for me. Her music and this song in particular helped me to choose life and the possibility of hope and happiness, no matter how far away it seemed at the time. Even six months later, her loss is a profound one.
NO SOMOS ROCKEROS, SOMOS SALSEROS A MORIR, PERO COMO LA MUSICA ES UN IDIOMA UNIVERSAL, Y TENEMOS TAMBIEN BUEN GUSTO Y APRECIAMOS LA VARIEDAD MUSICAL, SE RECONOCE LO BUENO DE ESTA JOVEN Y SU GRUPO. NOSOTROS TAMBIEN LA EXTRAÑAREMOS. OTRA BRILLANTE DE LA MUSICA, OTRA GRANDE DEL MILENIO QUE PARTE A LA GLORIA RESERVADA A LOS GRANDES.
She was giving me an important message some two decades back: I don't have to feel suicidal or sad, I am free to decide what my feelings are on my own, independent of other people and circumstances. They are genius, The Cranberries! Thank you sincerely!
You and me both. I was feeling a great deal of grief and despair for a very long time when this song came out. It took a long time to get there, but I found my way out of it and this song played a big part in taking the first steps.
This will always be my No. 1 favorite song from the Cranberries. I was at the peak of my high school years when this song was massive hit in MTV Asia back in later part of 1996.. those were the memories... and thank you Ms Dolores for sharing and singing this song to us... and mem'ries I had inslated into this song. You'll be missed forever..
Mariana Trabucco Heaven IS perfect & Holy &.ALWAYS sounds (IS) nice. Sadly, Dolores was Catholic & worldly & NOT born again. ONLY those who are born again can see God's Kingdom/Heaven. She was tormented by demons/substance abuse. THAT cannot enter God's home. Very sad, indeed. ...like SO many unsaved who are perishing. Don't be deceived & go with them. Blessing to KNOW Jesus BEFORE it's too late. 🙋💝💖👣👣
Takes me back to summer of 96...open road, friends and family, music and wind in my hair(which, sadly, I no longer have). Thanks for the life soundtrack, cranberries, thank you Delores, thank you KS for turning me onto them❤️
The more and more that I think about it, the Cranberries, achieved so much throughout the course of their careers. Hitting the 5 Million mark, in record sales faster then other band in their debut album. Then selling even more records in their second album. Over 40 million records in total from their first 6 albums. The second biggest Irish band in rock history. Possibly the biggest rock band ever, with a female lead vocalist. Many of their songs, such as Linger, Zombie, and Dreams are known the world over. My question is this, "Can somebody please explain to me, why this band is not in the Music Hall of Fame already???."
Thanks Mom & Dad for introducing me to amazing music my entire life! The Cranberries was one of my mother's favorite bands. I took more after my dad with my love of Metal in all forms. But my mom listened to a few bands I really liked, and The Cranberries where definetly one of them. They always bring me warm memories of the 90's! R.I.P Dolores O'Riordan!
You know when an artist touches your soul, when you listen to her music, not understanding a single word (English is not my first language and I didn't know English in the 90s) but still you feel the emotion. .. ¡Qué perdida tan grande! Vuela alto, Dolores.
All of the good artists are dying, it just ain't fair! And with Chester Bennington, we didn't know what we had in the 2000's! If Madame Tussauds made a wax figure of Dolores, and if there were such a thing as magic, I would get in touch with my inner Harry Potter or Alex Russo and bring her back to life! Bowie, Prince, George Michael, Tommy Page, Chris Cornell, Chester Bennington, Troy Gentry, Tom Petty, Aaliyah, Whitney Houston, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, Robert Palmer, Joe Strummer, Rick James, Scott Weiland, and Cory Monteith from Glee, too!
Anna Gore And not one of those "artists" were good in God's eyes. None of them were born again, but living in worldly sin. Sad? Indeed. People get what they deserve because they never surrender to Jesus & stay wicked. Don't be deceived & go with them. Many are called & few are chosen. Blessings to KNOW Jesus BEFORE it's too late. 🙋💝💖👣👣.
R.I.P Dolores!!! Your voice will continue to remind me of the time when all I need was someone to tell me "I know what's it's like". You will forever BE THAT VOICE!!!
I watched this video by tv in my room inside a hotel in Rome ( Italy ), during my school excursion on 1997. What a great age there !! My best wishes from Italy.
Perfect song right now for the moment, as well as back then. I was listening to this album when it came out as a kid, this is what people with intellect and some power create. Truthful lyrics..
awesome song, I didn't think there would a really good album after their first, I was wrong. This album is just as good as their first album, probably better.
seen the cranberries play live last saturday here in london- they were fantastic- the nusic was so beatiful with delores singing like an angel- the band all looked happy and l believe delores is really enjoying her life- she mused about the passage of time and how big n old her kidz are now- she said treasure this moment and yes l know this was special as seeing them play live is a very precious experience- there's a good chance a new album is on the way- l'm happy that the cranberries are back
Ohhh!!! Cuantos recuerdos con esta melodia por alla en el año 1996 cuando la pasaban por Mtv... Descanse en paz mujer, dejaste bonita musica por el resto de la eternidad...
I remember watching this music video on MTV late at night, the nostalgia hurts. I love when she sings "... I'm not so suicidal after all..." It reminds me of how I felt suicidal as a young girl when this first came out. This song is a beautiful treasure❤
É tão triste saber que não teremos mais novidades vinda dessa artista única e extraordinária. Lamentável ver o rumo que a música está tomando, principalmente aqui no Brasil...e é profundamente doloroso ver que os verdadeiros artistas partem... Wrong. Every single album is a masterpiece in their own right.
