Thanx for this one Master Junkman. I custom made the Froglady to make my Mandalorian (The passenger) board game. Made it by resculpting a different starwars action figure. Recoloring and making a cloth costume for her.
I made a 12" Boba Fett stealth armour figure (full black armour decades before he appeared in the comics like that). I posted it to the Rebel Scum page in about 2001-2002 I think.
Regarding the ladder. I don't know why the X-Wing wasn't designed with retractable steps, similar to those on real-world military aircraft. Before anyone says, "The X-Wings in disney's sequel trilogy had retractable steps.", I'm talking about the X-Wings in the original trilogy storyline, not the crappy, poorly written, pseudo fan fiction known as episodes 7 - 9.
I remember buying some super-sculpey and giving it a try. I absolutely sucked at it. Super-sculpey is the stuff they piled on to customize figures. Put it on, boil it to set it, and done. I could repaint like a pro though. Years of doing model kits helped with that.
Plumbing epoxy putty works wonders, it's more easily workable, sands, drills, and etches better when cured, and smooths to disappear into the plastic better. I use a brand called WaterWeld, can plug pipes and pools underwater. Please don't give up!
I made a C3PO with removable limbs for the POTF2 line before Kenner did! Mine has removable arms, legs, head, and waist! I even painted the pegs to look like wires!
Thought about custom making one of the Xwing pilots in The passenger Mandalorian episode for my game. Instead I used a Luke Xwing pilot to stand in, in the game. Though, I did find a different Luke I might be able to modify if I want or need to.
I've custom made some gatekeeper droids and a Treadwell droid. Reminds me. Some vehicles should have some basic droids with them. Like a mouse, training, security, or etc basic droid. It be next to nothing to add, yet would give extra play value. Especially if it's the first vehicle they get without an action figure
Gatekeeper droid, which do you mean? TT-8L, from Jabba's palace? That crystal-eyed shaft that seems to curse C-3PO out? I'd enjoy seeing one customized. Treadwell droids are fun to customize. Binocs from GI JOE figures work as good "heads". Hot Wheels and Matchbox sized tanks are great bases, especially keep the rolling action.
I modified two exsting non-posable E.T. figures. One, who is wearing a bathrobe and holding a can of beer. I painted the robe brown and drilled a small hole into the top of the can, before inserting a lightsabre blade. The second has a blanket over his shoulder and is reading from a book. I painted the blanket red (I don't remember why) and printed out the words, Vote now. Vote now., on a dymo label maker, cut them to size and glued them on to the pages of the book. This, in my mind, was one of the E.T. characters consulting his script, in between takes. I still have both of these figures.
Oh fuck yeah that boba fett with the bigger guy beside him is chap mei stellar force. That's a cool figure. And he's got him painted boba fett color scheme. Thats rad
I love repros and have a repro Blue Snaggletooth. I love that it's nearly identical to the Kenner one. I also have a few repro weapons that I needed to complete my vintage Kenner collection; General Lando and Yak Face were missing their weapons.
My home custom of BoShek I used a duplication of the original GI Joe Grunt head, on a Bossk body. I'm going to have to look closer in Junkman's video. Good eye!
When Kay-Bee was closing, I found tons of R2-D2 and R5-D4, customized the daylights out of them, various pilots from the novels have their astromechs, and I did onscreen forgotten droids. Also a few filthy R2-D2 mods (Dagobah, Hoth, short-circuited Endor, etc) they're fun to make.
One of the first and easiest customs to do was back with the first 12, get a couple of spare Death Squad Commanders, take a Sharpie and carefully colour in the uniform so it matches the uniforms you mainly see in the film. The other spare, if you had access to your Dads grinding wheel, you would grind down the helmet to roughly head size, grind the tops off the gloves to sleeves, and simply paint hands, sleeves and hair and you've got Tarkin! Course it was easier to make a Tarkin when they did the Imperial Commander figure, you'd just swap out the head and repaint the uniform. R2's were also easy to colour in differently. 👍👍👍😁
Never knew you could pull the arms 'n' such off of some figures from He Man, etc. ...But I thought the world of the GIJoe figures with their movable hips. I thought of how interesting it was, and had one in front of me from another kid at the babysitters for the first time, and twisted and rotated I'd say... ....I'd estimate... ...one to many times and - it gave way. ...................It wasn't mine either. Anyway. My mum replaced it. Anyway. :P At 8.56: That Luke has a bad sunburn. !!!
The screws remove easily from early (and 25th anniversary onward) Joe figures, making them easy to swap, and their scale helps custom other lines, Star Wars, Marvel, Indiana Jones, you-name-it.
Back on the 90s when I first was learning about the 85 potf. I thought for a while there was a Vader with removable helmet. I think that's the vintage figure I wish they had made the most or maybe a Han in stormtrooper
9:10 one of the best guys I saw doing large-scale figures was this website called Colucci's Sarlacc. He'd buy the originals and make them look more like the actors than the figure did. And, he'd flesh out the line with forgotten characters, they looked like they jumped off the screen.
Great video. I’ve always loved the custom vintage Kenner figures. So many we should’ve gotten but never did. I have zero artistic skill so I’ve never tried to make custom figures. Those things on the ground in the X-Wing playset are lights. You can see them in A New Hope.
Aww, yeahh. Loved FFURG and RebelScum . I always saw other sculptors do figures I had already done, and preferred mine, sometimes saw characters I wanted to get to, and said "I think I could do better", and I think I did. 1:22 Garindan. 3:34 ysalamiri. 3:49 altered a store-bought one, so she could sit crosslegged in front of Jabba. 5:25 Labria aka Kardue'sai'Malloc, his freeze-frame is my unlock screen on my phone! 6:06 Dremel takes a lot of practice. Biggs figures ended up as peg-warmers for awhile, and I got good at hollowing helmets, and was a fan of the Rogue Squadron and Wraith Squadron novels, made sh¡+-tons of pilot characters. 13:21 it's an ambition of mine to get to Jaxxon, I intend to use Betty Spaghetti figure parts and make his limbs extra bendy. (Speaking of rabbits, I _have_ done Max from LucasArts games the same way, bendy limbs) 16:12 my humble thanks, Junkman! I can't click ♡ on my end, but I really like this video.
Do you have any figures from Stan Solo Creations of characters that were never made by Kenner back in the day? He's made & sells Garindan (the spy/snitch), several droids, hus own version of Boba Fett from RotJ, Slave Leia & the Sand Trooper, to name a few. The Bantha & even a ship. They all look great displayed next to my original figures.
@@ThatJunkman - You might wanna check out some of these on TH-cam. Much like the Retro Collection from Hasbro, some are really well done in that vintage, Kenner style.

@@tperson8347 Flea Markets. People are ready to unload broken stuff for cheap. I customize all kinds of modern figures, and Flea Markets are my bread and butter. A figure (say) missing a hand, might cost me a quarter.
