  • In this video i brought myself a new project motorcycle, well what's left of one.
    I bought a 2010 Yamaha R6 out of the Copart auction and it didn't take long to realise the fire damage was from two holes in the engine where the piston rods left.
    so i pull the engine out the R6 assess the damage as we go along.
    Join me in this rebuild series as we either put this bike back on the road or turn it into a Track bike. What do you reckon?
    Don't forget to like and subscribe.

    I use to buy busted bikes say 6 years ago, honestly unless you just had a need for parts, this was kind of a crap buy, not shitting on you. just it is what it is. we sometimes make dumb decisions.

    You are a brave man, the only way this restoration/repair makes sense to me would be through TH-cam revenue. I'm watching, and have subscribed.👍

    Powder from Extinguishers is extremely corrosive. Clean all your tools you have used everything around where the bike has been take bike out side and pressure wash it to get rid of all traces of the powder

    Your logic is good - there are fewer R6's on the road now as the pool isn't being increased. So, as you have the road parts, I'd rather put it back on the road than make just another track bike.

      @DGMotorcycles  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah makes sense to put it back on the road, but in between making this series I done my first ever track day so now I have the taste for it 🤣.

      @@DGMotorcycles Nice one. I have a Ducati 748 that's a road bike, but it's very quick to turn into a track bike - maybe 15 minutes to remove lights, mirrors, indicators, rear fender thing with number plate, and change the fairings over for my fibreglass set. It might take longer on the '10 R6 but you don't really need to do all that, especially if you're in the novices.
      Are you thinking of doing any more trackdays this year? I'm looking at Donny mid-oct which is when we should get an Indian summer for a week or two 🤞

    If there are now fewer R6's out there that means sourcing parts will be difficult and expensive. You've got a lot stripped now. Part it out and try to recover as much cash as you can. If a decent example is only worth twice what you paid it will cost you more in time, effort and cash to get this thing back together than it is worth. Repairing fire damaged vehicles only makes sense if they are extremely rare and valuable.

    Going through a rebuild of a 2005 5SL R6 myself :) Feel the pain. Gladly it's only taken damage from someone popping the clutch and whiskey throttled it into a curb (well at least i hope that story is true) But it's been a painful experience having to source a subframe that wasn't bent 250miles later i bought one. Just a few bits to put on and it's back to it's former glory.
    Keep up the work, enjoyed watching that.

      aw very nice, yeah it can be painfully slow sometimes trying to source parts for a good price. but its always great satisfaction when the bike is complete and you go for that first ride.

    2K for that bike wow your either crazy or brave lol . The bike is simply a right off and not even worthy of rebuilding for the track lol. Get it insured and burn it LOL. The bike wasn't looked after before the fire so what's the rest of it like. My mates Z10 did the same thing it through a rod and holed the front of the engine .Costly job so he just scraped the bike. He bought it off Ebay and was truly ripped off . The auction is always a bit of a risk .

    Why a track bike is that because it may not be road worthy? Well that will be safe taking it up to high speed on a track, these guys that fix wrecks on TH-cam will get someone killed.

    • @DGMotorcycles
      @DGMotorcycles  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The engine blew up which lead to a small fire resulting in a fair bit of cosmetic damage.
      It would be cheaper for me to turn into a track bike as I could get things like cheap fairings and wouldn’t need to source lots of expensive parts to get it through an MOT.
      In the video I show there’s no damage to the frame. I wouldn’t be rebuilding a bike that would be unsafe for either road or track use.
