@@alderinerush exactly, it sounds good to the layman but it hurts to listen to as a harley driver. Most of the time he gives motor around 2,5 to 3k rpm, and thats okay. I do the same with my RoadKing. But accelerating from like 2k really really is a nono.
The problem with harley is that are using the objectively worst engine type they can. A parallel twin or a transverse-vtwin would be great. The transverse-vtwin on my Honda CX500 is amazing. An air cooled longitudinal vtwin like harley uses has some of the worst cooling of any motorcycle engine that exists. Another big gripe is that until recently they havent produced anything with an engine other than this horrid vtwin I am describing. Honda or Yamaha also make vtwin air cooled bikes. But they also make OTHER motorcycles with other engines. Inline fours, single cylinders, parallel twins, three cylinders, vtwin, air cooled, water cooled, there are so many fun ways to make a bike. But all harley does is make the same cruiser bike in slight variations. Honestly its just sad that an iconic American company can't do better. Harley could have been the Honda of America, but instead all they did was make vtwin cruisers.
@@winstonpoplinthe Bike here is a Milwaukee 8 which is Air and Oil cooled. They start at 107CI and go up to 131CI. I personally have a 114CI that makes 121TQ at the wheel. So far they’ve been great. Stout and very reliable. Since 2017 they’ve only had one major issue which was resolved in 2019 completely (oil sump issue covered by warranty) and have been steady engines ever since. Somehow HD has had the “reliability nightmare” reputation ever since the AMC days of the 1980s. The generation of engines before this are the Twin Cam and the EVO. Also Great Engines. The EVO Engines Are so Good People use them to power small aircraft. HDs new engines are short stroke DOC liquid cooled engines that love to Rev, they’re called the Revolution Max. Harley Davidsons are definitely good motorcycles that appeal to many. They also hold their value better than pretty much any import bike. Try one out, seriously. It might show you how easy they are to appreciate.
@@winstonpoplin it is a shame the nightster is a miss and they don't do more to innovate. However the arguments against the engine fall away once you put away the spreadsheets and ride them 🤷. The modern engines are reliable, balanced, and make good usable power. I went from hating HD, to saying they're good bikes but not for me, to wanting to purchase a road king once they update it. If they do soon at least. Otherwise it's a great bike now at any rate.

And didn’t sell very well when the brand is admired for the one thing that they do right: Their lumpy V-Twin. Of course they could make some new engines but they wouldn’t sell. Why? They’d be more expensive than all the other alternatives and also it would be getting away from what they’re known for doing best. Not every bike has to make crazy power to be enjoyable. Some people like slow smooth comfortable cruising.
i think big v-twins return me to my youth when my little 50cc dirt bike felt 'big' and i had respect for it. i didn't try to ride fast. i just tried to have fun cruising around freely wherever i wanted to go, enjoying the wind in my face and the sun

As much as i want to love all bikes, i just can't stand how the road glide fairing look. Definitely prefer the street glide fairing. But that Milwaukee 8 sound is glorious as always.
@@xapaiz The RG fairing is a very noticeable improvement to handling over the batwing fairing. Most HD riders who experience the fixed fairing end up buying one. That's how I got my 1st Road Glide, lol!
I used to think the same thing. Then you ride both back to back and you'll see how the Road Glide handles so much better. It's a very relaxing ride. You just have to go try one and then you'll say "Oh, I get it now."
Sounds so good. I’ve never owned a cruiser or been an HD fan but these days I’m looking at them much more. Test rode an Indian Challenger and it opened my eyes.
Just passed my cbt in an automatic here in the UK. Currently working on clutch control so I can work my way up to a Harley when I'm older! Thank you for this video!
I never imagined a day ever when I would see me schaaf on an HD. Nothing against HD but it’s just it’s not at all the super passionate cornering riding from you and this rumbler never mixed. I mean I fear and imagined days like dangerous virus affecting whole humanity and we living in fear and shadows and hiding etc, but not this. 😊 great riding as always schaaf you seem to really like it actually.
I lived for many years in New Zealand. Harleys are a really popular bike there. So many great roads. Big open spaces, sweeping bends, climbs, descents, twisties. All day long. Never enjoyed them more than when I was out on my Harley. Just a tiny dot in the middle of a massive landscape. People are quick to spout their negative opinions on Harleys. If they'd had just one day like I had hundreds they'd STFU.

Great timing. I've been really fascinated with cruisers lately (what's wrong with me?) and I know the Road Glide is more touring line of American V twin bikes, but I'd love to see more cruiser content in the future!
Not a cruiser guy myself. I went and test rode some of the new soft tails at the end of last summer. I was really impressed. They are still Harley Davidsons in that they are slow and don't turn well but they are really fun to ride. The Street Bob in particular had me giggling because of how silly it is. At the end of the day a motorcycle that makes you giggle is worth more on the streets than a motorcycle that will do 160 mph.

I owned Road Glide Ultras for 10 years, they are the best touring bike HD makes hands down. I prefer my 2018 Goldwing overall but there is just something tangibly great about riding a Harley Davidson.

That's impossible to tell really without having the direct comparison. The ride with the Indian was more than one year ago. But technically I think the Indian is superior

I just picked up a road king first Harley and I thought the trans was clunky when I was rev match downshifting but awesome to see your video and see that that’s just part of the character. Smooth riding by the way bike sounds great.

Although the fairing on the Road Glide is attached to the frame instead of to the forks. It might have a big impact in rideability

I just picked up a road king first Harley and I thought the trans was clunky when I was rev match downshifting but awesome to see your video and see that that’s just part of the character. Smooth riding by the way bike sounds great.
