I don't get why people think criticizing Andromena's graphics and animations are a BAD thing. Mass Effect has had great cut scenes and dialogue. Why would you let such shitty standards slide?
Criticising the animations and bugs aren't a bad thing (because the animations ARE bad), but everyone is treating the game like it's ride to hell retribution or the slaughtering grounds when in reality none of the bug compilations on the internet actually represent how the game runs.
There's no denying that the facial animations are pretty bad sometimes, and that there are definitely bugs. But in my almost non stop play since friday I've only come across at most 4 or 5 weird things happen on screen, and honestly if someone wants to be THAT level of petty over hating a game then they shouldn't be playing games to begin with - bugs, every game has them.
But most importantly If MEA gets treated like garbage for its almost entirely cosmetic bugs then games like skyrim and the witcher 3 should be universally despised by those same people, as the only bugs I've encountered in those games are absolutely game breaking (have had to completely restart both games from the beginning due to bugs before), and almost as numerous. And yet they aren't despised, they're regarded as really great games.

People had high expectations for the game, made even higher by the promotional campaign for the game and the unending promises that "we'l do better guys, we promise!" I haven't yet played the game (though I intend to get it once its PC version is up to snuff) so I can't say anything about its quality, but people criticizing it is not a bad thing. it shows just how much people care about it but also what they expect of it. Smart developers take that and they use it to make their next games better. If you haven't personally had that much issue with the game, that's cool - better for you to enjoy it - but don't expect others who did have trouble to shut up just because it's Mass Effect...
None of this is good or bad. This is a transient internet quibble that will definitely not transform into anything.
People will be 100% over this nonsense very soon. This will become one of those topics you occasionally remember and think "Wow, weird to think that was a big deal at the time.".

You know, you could really use The Penguin mask from Telltale's Batman. It's basically the same thing as a plague mask, only with a penguin beak and doubles as a gas mask - ergo it would be easier to breathe in.

Man, the fact that we have to lower the standards so much for Slaughtering Grounds to even be acceptable graphics-wise really does speak volumes about the quality (or rather lack thereof) of the game doesn't it :'D

The place where store-bought art assets really shine is for stuff that's SUPPOSED to look generic.
There's a pack of street signs called "Urban Realistic Pack V1". You've probably seen that stop sign in a hundred different games, but you don't notice, because why would you notice that? Stop signs are supposed to all be the same anyway.
That's where indies can cut some corners and save their artists for the stuff you actually notice ... like the zombies.
Though once you *do* notice things like that it can really tank immersion, at least for me.

I legitamately feel sorry for the team that made Andromeda. Next to no experience, and they had to make a new Mass Effect game in 7 months in a new engine. What if a very creative developer made a game wherein the protagonist realizes that he or she is inside a video game because all of the enemies that they come across are stock Unity and GameGuru assets?

@r h Imagine if the cost of items bought via microtransaction was equivalent to the effort put into them, they'd cost a buck at most. What we got these days aren't even microtransactions because a microtransaction that costs more than a dollar or two is already a normal transaction without the micro-prefix.

There are not that many bugs, the few bugs that are in the game are small things and cosmetic in nature which don't detract from the experience.

I would also argue the many, many visual bugs present and just abysmal faces and animation in general detract hugely from a game that's supposed to immerse you completely and put you in the protagonists place.

I mean, Inquisition tickled me just right. Wasn't perfect, but I had emotions and fun while playing it, so I don't know, I felt silly enough to put a fiver on the new Bioware... thing. I got a feeling in the wind and until I paid the thing off, my Persona 5 preorder had $10 on it and Andromeda could just go ahead and fuck itself.
Ooh, the Gamestop experience in my town is getting real. The store manager has gone AWOL and the guy at the counter was yammering to me like someone who's just survived some shelling, telling me that his corporate mantis' have given him the mantle of "sorta, kinda, not really manager" while they slowly try to find someone else while he and his coworker work overtime to keep the place functioning without anyone to steer the leviathan. I never go into the fucking place to do anything else but peer at the stock for five seconds before moving along, but the rainfall of Yakuza, Resident Evil, Horizon, and Persona has had me creeping in for my pretty physical copies.
I feel so bad for these guys. Didn't have much to do with how shit Andromeda is, but looking in these guys' shining, terrified/manic eyes makes me realize - I will not be doing any more preordering, unless (unlikely) we're talking about any of these really special games that have been coming out. Once Persona has gone, you won't see me slapping money down before the game's out. Andromeda's one very good reason.

Not sure if Jim ever talked about this but, I think it's important to note how difficult these asset flippers are making it for anyone who wants to actually use these assets. I mean, there's a lot to be said for a good salesman but, damn. I personally toyed with the idea of making an in depth RPG using the Unit Z assets. But when the damned thing showed up literally everywhere I basically said fuck it.
I've encountered the weird leg glitch but other than that, it's been an amazing experience and I've not encountered any CTD issues or the like, so far (30hrs and counting). I'm sorry to all of you who are having issues!

I was going to buy Mass Effect Andromeda. Emphasis on WAS. I didn't realize that a game in development for 5 years and costing $40 Million could look like an early access game when it was finally released. And For Honor has micro-transactions in it? Both Andromeda and For Honor looked like such good games! Damn you, EA and Ubisoft! Damn you both to hell!

Mass effect andromeda is a game i find myself subjectively loving while being able to recognize its issues.
its a breath of fresh air for me because unlike Horizon zero dawn which just felt like ANOTHER ubisoft style open world game, the game embraced the mechanics of the old mass effect games (even if it didnt nail all of them)
I enjoyed the game as well. Put 90 hours into the single player. I bought it on discount a couple months ago and it seems that they've fixed most of the animations. It's a decent game, not the best ever made, but worth playing. I've played far worse anyway.
I would have never bought it for full price, bit i was lucky enough to have a release deal near me so i got for half price. 30 euros was reasonable, it was an okay game (visual issues aside i mean) and i don't regret the purchase, but don't ever buy it for 60, like ever.

I'd recommend you to look for other opinions. ME:A has been very controversial and there seems to be a hating circlejerk going on with it. It doesn't seem to be that bad, yes, the animations are not stellar and there are some cosmetic glitches but otherwise the game seems to be fine.
I have 50 ish hours in the game thus far, and I'm really enjoying it. People like to join on the hate train for things, but if you're interested in a game, get it. The only opinion that should really matter is yours.
Well I absolutely loved the original trilogy so I've a feeling I'll like this one too, it's good to hear that the hate might be overblown at least
If you've got a PC that can power through shitty optimisation and preferred ME1 to its sequels, I'd say get it. The only game-breaking bug that I'm aware of is some vendors shitting themselves after you hit lvl60 and it'll probably be patched by the time you reach lvl60.
Don't go in expecting the high-stakes, 'save the galaxy' antics of ME3 or gritty 'Seven Samurai in Space' action of ME2. Also, actually play a couple of hours of the old games so you don't have rose-tinted glasses about the technical aspects of these games. ME games have always had wooden animations and shitty graphics. I don't know how anyone is surprised by that.
The game isn't awful.... but Bioware are way more capable than this....

I know this is unrelated, but do other people seriously have animation fuck-ups in Andromeda? I've been playing since the AU launch (on XB1) and I haven't had any issues. Is it just me that DOESN'T have problems!?
I didn't have many, memers are overblowing the problem. The game is great has tons of content and the overarching story is absolutely fine. Most of the core game is great it's just animations, and while bad, are routinely dismissed in tons of other games, people wanted to hate this before this came out so they are.
(I am in no way saying this game doesn't have problems)
EdgeOI I'm not saying the game is perfect (I have a few nitpicks) but I just felt like the odd one out for my average sessions with this game NOT resembling your typical Bethesda RPG.
And I never understood the hate parade surrounding Andromeda, but then again, I ignore hype culture altogether. I only found out about Andromeda 2 weeks before it came out, so I'm largely uninformed. But judging by the fact that this apparent outrage is related to a video game, it's probably something pointless. (No offence intended. The vocal minority I'm deferring to gets very angry very easily.)

Andrew Jones I rented it yesterday, and although I'm enjoying it I have ran across some issues. When I'm driving the Mako on Eos there's this one spot where the game just freezes for a few seconds. The main thing that stood out to me was that at the very beginning of the game, when exploring the abandoned space station on Habitat 7, it did not render whatsoever. A majority of the ship was just black pixels and when I got close it made Ryder 8 bit. I took screenshots if you want to see.

Your intro says it all. Mass Effect Andromeda may very well be at Dragon Age II levels of unfinished.
And it will be a better day when Greenlight's replacement comes into play. My game won't have to compete with a flood of idiotic memes. If I ever get it done.
Andromeda most definitely ISN'T Da2 levels of unfinished, Andromeda's shortcoming come in movement glitches and facial animations, DA2's shortcomings come in re-used dungeons, stale combat, and tons of other actual mechanical and gameplay problems.

This is steam we're talking about, they can still very well find a way to fuck this up so bad it'll be even worse than greenlight
So what? A game with good mechanics that handles badly and looks like shit is not any better than a game what looks good and handles well but has shit mechanics.
Even though I despise DA2, there is a decent story and decent character development there. The animations and most importantly the characters are simply much muuuuuuuuch better in DA2 than in Andromeda. They also released the game literally 16-18 months after DA:Origins release and the reused assets and the lack of customizability showed (and really sucked). ME:A took 5 years to make and this is what they've to show for it?
eh, Dragon age 2 is still my favorite of the series. Origin it's my least favorite, the gameplay is seriously lacking there and i much prefer 2's relations mechanics, protagonist and dialogue
