Yep! The politicians and aholes are the only regret I have joining and going to OIF. Nobody cares about us vets, not until they get scared/something bad happens, and their lives are threatened. Now us vets are just throwaway people, it’s crazy. We do what most won’t and we get the s**t end of the stick.

Kinda did the same thing with my grandpa. Hadn’t seen him for years until one day after I parked my car near the shops. I heard this guy yelling insults at me. I turned around to see see him walking straight at me. So theirs online one thing I could do. Start a blazing row with him for all the onlookers to see.
Finished up by yelling right that’s it. And wound up the biggest telegraphed punch you’ve ever seen. Only to pull the guy into a big hug.

As a prior military, anyone that brought a good laugh was my hero.
This reminds me of a story my dad told me about.
He was in Iraq and some of his buddies got a bunch of beers from a sale in a nearby town, they brought the beer back to their basecamp and buried them in the dirt wrapped in a tarp so their superiors wouldn't chew ehm out. (And keep them cold.)
But one night my Dad was on watch and decided to dig up a beer so he could get a nice cold one. His excuse was "imma go take a Steamer." When he got to the spot where the beer was buried he saw his captain sitting on the spot in a chair.
Dad asked "sir.... uh.... what yah doing?"
Captain replied "Waiting for own of you Dumbasses to get me a drink."
😂 My dad still wheezes his ass off everytime he tells that tale.

My dad was in the navy and on a deployment down in Bermuda they had a chance to buy duty free liquor. Apparently if your on a long enough voyage the limit you can get goes from a few bottles to a case of 12. The submarine had a crew of 138 and on the way back to Norfolk the torpedo room was crammed with 138 cases of the various alcohols. They would have been considered combat ineffective because no torpedoes could be loaded as the hoist and every other surface was being occupied.

Yep a real US Merchant Marine sailor as myself am one for over 28 years now going to sea.
The differences between the words “Marines” and “Marine” is the letter “S”. Marines is for USMC (Untied States Marine Corp) and Marine is for “Maritime”.
I’ve also head about this from fellow mariners I’ve sailed with over the years, and some who where actually there with the main character in the book.
