I use them under my dinette / double recliner slide out. I have two very large sons 6'5 250 - 300 lbs and I have gotten into the habit of setting them up. Not to lift, but just support the slide out. These are on the driver side of the trailer. We were stuck with 70 + mph winds on the other side of the trailer lifting that side of the trailer enough to blow the stabilizer blocks from under the trailer. I believe we would have tumped all the way over, but for the stabilizers. We found out that this is called a derecho wind storm very dangerous. Came and went in about 20 to 30 minutes. Such fun!

Awesome advice, neighbors put some up and this helps me to know I don’t need to.

As a rule of thumb, I never put my slide outs out unless my six point hydraulic leveling is properly extended. Period. I have a 40 foot redwood fifth wheel and the only place I’ve considered adding some extra stability is if it’s going to be parked for a while and we’re staying in it and that is to put some type of jacking on the rear of the rig, just pushing up ever so slightly, in order to stabilize and rear bounce/movement. Sometimes guests plop down on the rear sofa, which bounces the unit.

Good info. I would additional add what if the gourd settles on one side of the trailer. I have always head for long term parking we should check our jacks periodically.

I’m going to be full time on mine. I was going to put it on blocks and have some under the slide as well. I’m not on a concrete pad - it’s a field basically

I have a set for two reasons. 1, I have a large individual friend that would be sleeping in the slide out with the fridge in and I can hear stress on the slide. And 2, my dad has bad knees and tends to drop rather hard and it scares me.
In the instances they'll be there I will use them BUT they will be barely touching, enough to catch and support in a sudden drop on the further entent of the slide. A big problem I see with these is people run them tight. Don't! Get them just to the point of contact where they won't move around. And only for temporary periods.

Thank you for this video. I was wondering if using slide supports were a benefit or a detriment to the slide mechanism. This helped me decide I wasted my money on purchasing slide supports for weekend RV use.

If you have your levels out tire pressure shouldn't be a big deal should it? What if you add a nice couch and a large person?

I listened to the no slide-out support and my wall is now pulling away from my trailer from the weight of the slide-out now.

My problem is this; our rig is 20 years old and the slide is very obviously sagging. So much so that a bit of the protective covering underneath has been ripped from dragging when sliding in and out.
This RV may never move, and it seems to me that giving the slide out at least a little support would have to be better than letting it continue to sag and come further out of alignment with the trailer. Maybe something with a little more flex to it, like 2x4s angled against the frame with a rachet strap for tension? Something enough to give it some integrity without being completely rigid.

I put 4 solid stabilizers on the frame every time I set up. They are supporting the weight of the camper, the tire pressure is a non issue. If I'm staying more than a couple of days, I'll put the support under the slide out, just barely touching the frame of it not supporting it.Also, the slide goes out 4 feet. Seems to work for me

Thanks Todd. I belong to several Facebook groups when they talk a lot about adding supports under the slide (Schwintek) when it is in for travel. I do not think it is necessary and could possibly damage the slide, wall, and/or floor depending on how much force the internal bracing puts on the underside of the slide. Could you please address this. Thank you.

I was curious.. I am living full time in my fifth wheel and have two heavy pieces of equipment on my large (i.e. 13 ft) side pop out. A large guitar amp and stereo/speaker set up probably weighing near 350 lbs stationed in the slide out full time. I have my camper set on railroad ties with the wheels off and all weight on the frame so no chance for it to change height/orientation due to dropping tire pressure. However, I am on compacted soil with layer of gravel vs. concrete so not likely for ground to shift due to moisture but a consideration. Would it be recommended if I took the equipment out, set the jack stands to support/just kiss the rails on outside of pop out and then reposition equipment once they are set? That way the pop out is not bracing the full weight of all the equipment. I am just concerned about long term sagging of the pop out and potential damage/bending from the extra weight. Please let me know your thoughts here. Thanks in advance!

My son is a big boy, always has been, he plops, not sits, and he’s broken some chairs, beds, and seats in cars. Now that I’m living ft in an Rv with slides, I get nervous when he PLOPS down on the couch so I ordered slide jack supports and got them today. After watching several videos saying the same thing about them as you are, I’ve changed the plan and I think I will only use them when he comes over, which isn’t all that often, then remove them when he leaves.
I’m going to just assume that’s ok, but is it really?

So if it’s temporary and there isn’t time way for the rv tires to settle then it might be fine. Yes

We travel every month or two to different states. Do we need to lift the Jacks high enough where the tires are off the ground?
Then put the tire stoppers underneath?

I would not recommend this. If you are stopping say for a month or so then maybe use plastic blocks or say 12”x12”x2” and drive up on them.

Plus wind can move the rv, and even just walking around inside shakes and moves the rv. All bad for slide out Jack's. Slides being out does no damage to them, actually, they are supported better in the out position than when they are in! Running them in and out doesn't help anything either, that just wears all the seals and running gear.

I have a 12 year old lance trailer, my slide does not seat level when extended. I do use two tailgate jacks to level it and keep it there while we're camping. It's worked for me and keep my food on the dinette.
    Happy camping peeps, aloha

Be careful your slides obviously have seals all around the top & sides. If you don’t have slide covers or you don’t leave a bit of grade to them rain or anything could come back into the trailer.

Yes, my thought, also. If you're living in it for an extended time, wouldn't it just be healthier for the RV to -- on occasion roll those slides in, just some prudent PMCS [military speak for "Preventive Maintenance Checks & Services?"] ...
Or, as others might say ....

THERE IS ONLY ONE PROBLUM WITH YOUR STATEMENT . Under strong winds even on a cement pad the RV can still move and there lies the problem. don't use the supports unless it is when you are camping.. Just my opinion

  • @larrysherwood3873

Don’t agree with Not Using Slide Out Jacks…. Your “Lippert leveling System will not let your RV Sink when tire pressure is lost…. When people sit on couches or recliners on slide outs, some sit lightly and some slam their butts into the couch or recliner, that in itself, over time can and will screw up the slides…Leaving Jacks will help to support the slides when the heavies hit the couch or recliner, losing tire pressure will not make the slides go lower, like I said, your leaving jacks will prevent this..
