I am so glad she came out with this information because what he did to her was disgusting. He felt like he owned her because he allowed her to host the show. I think he thought she would take over when he was gone but no man owns a woman. I feel really awful that Joan went through this but was on E! In the end so I am glad she got to have Fashion Police and come back on top. A person in a business should not be able to ruin another person in the same field of work.

At the time, you couldn't really call Fox a proper network, as they didn't have anywhere near the number of affiliates as they do now, so her show wasn't really much of a threat to Carson or NBC. "Late Show Starring Joan Rivers" was literally the first program Fox broadcast when they launched on October 9, 1986. Anyway, she never appeared on the Tonight Show again until early on in Jimmy Fallon's time hosting it.

The feud ended on 1/23/2005 for Carson when he died and on 9/4/2014 for Rivers when she died. Taking a longer view, the earth will burn up in about 2 billion years, but what if time itself ends? Hmmm. . . there is always infinity to fall back on, but I can't get my head around that.

I think the truth lies in the middle, Johnny gave her a career and had a right to feel snubbed by her.... but on the other hand he should have been happy for her..... we will never know

Carson was a flaming misogynistic narcissist whose issues stemmed from the failed relationship with his evil, cruel mother who never accepted him or his success. Joan never had a chance with him. Her relationship with Carson was bound to end in disaster, no matter what she did or didn't do. Rest in Peace, Joan.

Joan was naive to think she could form a friendship with him based upon his perceived congeniality on air personae.
He liked her as a guest and a guest host because she had value to him in that.
Friendships were not a factor for Johnny.

Folks, there are dozens of other interviews that she said that Johnny found out beforehand. Watch Peter Lasallay's interview on this. I believe him way more than her..

She said the deal was so hush for lots of reasons. She explained she wouldn’t have even been given the offer had she exposed it. PLUS she said that NBC didn’t even renew a contract with her to be on ANY program for 1 year. Had it been me I would have jumped on to the network offering a job. I’d do exactly what they told me to secure that job. If they said to keep the news to myself, I would have done just that. We cannot blame her for calling him after she took the job. It’s not what she wanted but it’s what she HAD to do. 🥲

Funny how she says all this when he's dead and can no longer defend himself.

Wrong... she told these stories all thru the years and he was an insolent bastard, You might want to read up on his bouts with the beloved Wayne Newton or for that matter try
Raymond Burr. He was an insecure man who even treated his lawyer friend Henry Bushkin like a piece of shit.

He was a jealous scumbag and a whiny little baby who was mad that a woman was making a decision for herself. everybody knows that.

She said this whilst Johnny was alive and after he died. It was a known fact Johnny was a cruel man behind the scenes.
