these fish arnt off the cheggy mate, you would be hard pressed to find them this size around shireoaks, in the mouth of the mariner if your very lucky!
Awesome fishing man!! Cracking PERCH!! Canals have been great for me too. This is why I like canal fishing, you just don't know what going to catch 🎣👌👌
Great video I love the excitement your like a kid at Christmas 😂😂 that’s why we go!!! Can’t beat a bit of surface lure fishing keep up the good work looking forward to the next video 👌
Nice one mate! They are a great lure! I always wire up with cranks mate as pike love em! I honestly don't often get pike whilst surface fishing though, but better be safe
Some lovely perch there, what set up would you recommend for cranks and the surface lures ? Have enjoyed your other videos and have got some stick flex lures to give the neko and texas rigs a try. Hoping to catch some tanks
I just picked up this salmo hornet rod! It's A very very good crank rod! Most modern rods are too fast for cranks they tend to bump fish, but I would recommend one of these, the one I have is the pro light 5-20, it's 8ft so perfect for bigger waters, if your fishing smaller waters then the pro finesse will probably serve you better as you don't need the length!
@@luresonly I will take a look at these, I prefer a longer rod as the rivers I fish have lots of bankside foliage and lakes are quite large so 8ft is good. What braid and wire trace would you recommend? Have just ordered some of the surface lures looks a great way to catch some big perch . Definitely a different approach and very effective
My second ever lure to catch a perch on was a fox slick sticks.. deep diver... first ever lure catch was a 7cm fox roach replicant.. thanks for vids I'm catching up 👍 in what circumstances would you use a wire trace? Iv been using a thin 5kg wire trace most occasions
I always use a trace with treble hooks, even small cranks baits for the simple fact I wouldn't want to leave one in a pike, as for jigs ands things generally if I'm fishing 4" and above I'll wire up, with the smaller lures it comes down to venue and how likely it is I'll get pike, sometimes they are right with perch and then I'll wire up even on a Texas rig
@@luresonly thanks for that 👍 just tryin to get confidence in the thin wire traces, even tho iv had plenty perch on wire traces in the past latley I'm doubting myself lol
Interesting vid. That canal looks much wider than any round this area, how deep is it both in the edge and in the middle? We tend to get about 18" close in and 3'-4' in the channel. I ask because the fish you get are considerably larger than any in this area, the best here go to about 2lb. I know this because I've watch the canal trust electro fish big stretches to clear out the zander.
Thanks bud, this is a Yorkshire canal and they are pretty big, i would guess around 100ft across as its a fair chuck with a lure, the margins vary alot on this canal but at this specific spot its about 3ft and pilled, its gradual from nothing on alot of the stretches, and about 10ft down the track, i fish all kinds of venues and some are definitely better for big perch than others, the hard part with these big canals is actually finding the fish, they have miles to roam between locks and just locating them is difficult, but once you do you can have sessions like this
@@luresonly Thanks for the reply. I suspected that was the case. I'm sure the size of the perch relates to the depth of water at least to some degree. I still fish the canal in winter using lures but my main focus is on commercials where we have some decent perch, the trouble is no lures allowed so it's worm and prawn after the frost has put the carp down. Keep up the good work on the videos, entertaining and educational. Top man.
Fishing these big canals can be brutal. This guy knows what he’s doing and where to go. He’s put work in. I’ve spent hours fishing these things round this area blanking it’s really brutal
@@pvegod1484 I don't doubt they are brutal. Big perch shoal up in one area and then there's very long stretches where they aren't. It takes determination and a lot of effort to find them in winter. I'm not downplaying the effort required to catch these fish, I understand it. I was contrasting the results compared to smaller canals, I can put the effort in and at best I can expect a 2lb perch from the canals round here.
@@jeffm9326 sorry if my comment came across snarky. I tend to stick to the smaller canals where a 2 pounder is a monster as well. Even then it’s hard. Perch fishing is a tough game. Think people watch the USA bass lads on TH-cam and think U.K. fishing will be as good 😂 catching 3 pounders every 2 mins
Nice Stripey pal 👍 👌 👏 slick stick swims ace pal
Thanks buddy! Yeah they are a great lure for sure! This was only my second session out using it but I love it already!
Another cracking video mate!
Keep em coming please 👍
Thanks buddy
I go Shireoaks but never seen that stamp of perch! Beauties 👍🏻

Just found your channel, every fish you catch would be a new pb for me 😂. I have been trying so hard for a good perch but hasn't happened for me yet
keep trying buddy, they are like busses big perch

Haha I've always been the same, no matter how many big perch I catch I still find it super exciting! And thanks mate
What landing net handle you using mate?
Great video mate. I picked up some of the sexy dawgs too. Are you using braid to fluoro or wire?

The braid on this reel is the strike king tournament, and the trace is one of 6kg traces from fox rage
Great fish caught there mate, I'm just getting into perch fishing, this video was amazing! what rod and reel are you using here?
Thanks buddy, the rod is a salmo hornet pro light 5-20g, perfect rod for crankbaits and surface lures. The reel is a daiwa Luvias
@@luresonly thanks mate, I'll go and do some shopping!

Hi whats the name of canal? Locally they are much narrower than where you fishing
the larger canals tend to hold the bigger fish, but you would surprised sometimes whats lurking in the narrow ones
Are you from Leeds mate?
No mate I live in Worksop
Ey up mate, great videos, struggle to find sport like this in East Yorkshire but we seek to find.Great stuff.
