Nicer to descend to Troutbeck for a pint... And then an easy walk around to Ambleside.

Really enjoyed your video. We're looking forward to climbing Wansfell on our trip to Ambleside next month. We've been recommended to carry on to Troutbeck and visit The Mortal Man by another walking friend and return to Ambleside via the path that skirts around Wansfell.

Thanks, Sarah. That sounds like a lovely walk - hope you have a great trip! Let us know how you get on. When you're in Ambleside, it's worth a visit to Stockghyll Force, too.

@LakeDistrictFilms We're staying right near Stockgill Force, so we will definitely be visiting at the start of this walk

I can highly recommend that walk. A walk, a meal and a pint. Who can ask for more.

Love it when you point the camera forward, when I see exactly as you see 🤸🤸

Glad you carried on to the actual summit. I’m sure so many don’t realise that Baystones is the actual summit 😂

Looked like you had a really good day to do this walk. Didn't seem like too many people. Nice video with some good views. Cheers. Eddie

It is a confusing hill and I am afraid to say that even you have got this one wrong. The highest point of the fell (Wainwright's Wansfell) is exactly where he marked it at GR: NY40314 05143 486.9m / 1597ft at the cairn south of the wall. The point that you define as the highest point is actually 0.83m lower and is a Birkett and Synge but not a Wainwright top.

Thanks, Andy; that's useful information. As Neil mentions, he did the point north of the wall, because that's what the Ordnance Survey map suggests is the highest point (and that's what the Second Edition of the Far Eastern Fells suggests, too). He did both, to make sure all bases were covered! We'll add your helpful information to the description, though. Best wishes.

@@LakeDistrictFilms yes, Chris Jesty did intimate that but more accurate surveying shows the cairn to be the highest point. Wansfell is not on it's own here, other fells have high points away from the OS marked point. PS, Andy Beck, not Andy Bell he was the singer in Erasure ;) :)

Im glad ive seen your reply Andy. Ive been confused as many people think the top North of the wall is the Wainwright and Im hoping to get up there to do it asap. Ive only done main Wansfell view point years ago thinking that was the Wainwright so I need to go back and do the correct one. Cheers
