It's kind of an English cottage /Beatrix Potter saga? Peter Rabbit having his tea after working in the garden? His tea set and china would be made to look like carrots and cabbage, right?

I think it would be cool if you changed the handle to a carrot or added carrots onto the design like you did for the face!

@@sabrinamunin2372 oooh I haven’t seen that one! Cabbage ware was a big thing in the US in the 60’s/ 70’s according to Southern living article I saw. Tradition goes back another 100-200 years though with the rise of naturalist forms in the 1800’s

    • @AlbredaWelde

Actually you are looking for the word tureen, not terrine. A terrine is a cold, loaf-like dish served in slices. A tureen is a vessel for serving soups and stews. And I like the look of the cabbage dishes, but they'd never fit in my house. If you inherit grandmother's cabbageware, be aware that there are some very pricey lines out there. The oldest ones come from Europe several hundred years ago. (But people are still making some today.) It is great to see folks keeping such collections alive by hunting down pieces. Very bonding.

I read in an article that naturalistic veggie and fruit ceramics (including cabbage) were very popular during the 18th and 19th century in Europe, especially the UK. With emigration the style spread to many parts of the world and was adapted.
There are full dinner sets looking like cabbage leaves. To a modern eye it's wild seeing a table laid out like that.

This reminded me of majolica, and from there to Palissy ware - it would be really fun to see if Shelby could adapt this mold into something like that, with little molded creatures all over :) Palissy ware is more decorative than functional, but you could do a small nod to it by carving or etching animals into the surface of the cast while still soft. Or, you could put a little coiled up snake in the bottom like those mugs that have a little friend waiting for you when you finish your drink!

    • @oliviarobbins6706

Wedgewood used to produce a lot of novelty cabbage and cauliflower tea sets, kind of a cottage garden aesthetic I guess. They’re an interesting design but the moulding is quite distinct, so it would be hard to disguise it as anything other than a cabbage. Otherwise I would suggest splashing some fun ombré colours on them and calling them peonies. The little face is charming though! Purple has historically been a difficult colour to reliably produce.

When I was little, we used to visit my great aunts house during the summer. Her house was full of tacky, kitschy stuff all over. Think doilies over chair backs, fake glass fruit in glass door cabinets (the kids were not. allowed. to touch. ever!) filled with other knick knacks like Tito memorial coffee sets - Yugoslavia was wierd in the 80s. But of all of the things in her house, I was obsessed with this giant soup serving bowl that was in her kitchen, never to be used, of course. It was shaped like a whole head of kale, life size, and had a serving spoon shaped like a leaf. It was coloured exactly like the first one you showed and I remember all the white veins in the details. I stared at that bowl for hours on end. When I visited her son and his family last year, we were reminiscing and I mentioned the bowl. To my surprise, they had it laying around somewhere. Obviously they didn't care for it that much, and they offered it to me as a gift. Sadly, it would have been a bit inconvenient for me to lug around a soup bowl after, so I declined. I'm still regretting not taking it! The thing is huge, not my style and it wouldn't fit in with my decor at all, but I still want it so bad!

This is such a fun mold, and I love the way the antiquing brought out all the details. You've gotten really good at that! I'm not as much of a fan of the face, maybe because the cabbage pattern is so realistic. If I were going to add something to these, it might be a small ladybug or caterpillar peering out from the leaves.

I love your whimsical style, but I also love the antiquing & glazing approach as well. It takes so much less time out of my day to engage with your videos than it takes you to make both the pieces and the video, so I’m sure you get tired of a technique way faster than I do. :D Honestly, it all feels like magic to me every time, even when it’s “just” antiquing & glazing, and I love seeing how the antiquing brings out the details every time. It almost feels like it’s respecting the effort put in by the original sculptor. So, absolutely do whatever brings your creative fulfillment, but don’t worry about me getting bored with a technique. I enjoy every video!

I'm late here Shelby ❤️ but I've been catching up!
Im a mushroom fan too, but I also have lots of Carlton Ware vegetable items 💕
Cabbage, melon, woven basket with fruit decorations at the base. And many more.
My collection are all sauce jugs with matching saucers and I love them!

i work part time at a store and sometimes we get just the silliest novelty mugs. During valentines we had a grey and purple hedgehog mug with hearts instead of spines (i ended up buying two!) and i have from a fall set an orange fox mug and a pumpkin mug... Needless to say I agree we need more wacky and fun kitchenware in the world

I found sets that look similar to this on Etsy, in line green and baby pink. I was soooo close to buying one but they didn’t post to nz. This piece is so amazing! What a gem, amazing find 💚💜

They are so adorable! Love the purple, even though it's not as red as purple cabbage.

Fabulous! I have a lettuce leaf dip bowl with 3 sections and a little cherry tomato! They were quite a novelty in the Uk once upon a time!

I really like your color choices and techniques. You could always glaze the inside a wacky color and put your signature flowers on the flat center of the saucer in matching colors

The mugs with the faces are so cute ; you can have the plane side facing the person and then they turn it around there is a cute face smiling at you.

I make pincushions and tjis cabbage set screams pincushion base to me. With some sweet clsy veggie pin heads. When I finally replace my ramshackke garage and set up the kiln left to me by my grandmother who raised me I will be having my own surprise adventure through all of her molds. You make me anxious to get started!

I think it still fits in with your style without the eyes. very much a set I could imagine 2 frogs having a tea party with. Maybe playing with the colors for the antiquing would make it feel more interesting to you like using a blue antiquing to make the greens and purples pop

I had an antique Wedgwood teacup and saucer in cabbage shapes. They were a beautiful green.
