INSTALL: Front JDM 'i' Badge & Rear Stars Badge on 2006-2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

  • The 'i' badge is available in either pink or blue and is a direct replacement for most Subarus built prior to 2006. The 06-07 Hawkeye WRX/STi's have a slightly larger OEM badge and different mounting holes in the grille, however, this is still a very easy install & should not intimidate anyone from installing this on their car. The rear badge is OEM & can be sourced online or from a dealer. Difficulty of installation for both badges is a 1 out of 5.
    Tools needed:
    FRONT BADGE:
    -Hairdryer OR heatgun
    -3M double sided emblem mounting tape
    -Screwdriver AND/OR putty knife
    -Knife AND/OR razor blade
    -Rubing alcohol
    -Papertowels AND/OR old microfiber towel
    -Toothbrush
    -Soap & water
    REAR BADGE:
    -(Same as above, plus...)
    -Plastidip
    -painters tape
    There are several places to order these badges from including eBay, SubaruGenuineParts, FastWRX, & Oakos. I purchased my 'i' badge along with several other parts from rallysportdirect. I bought the rear OEM badge from SubaruGenuineParts.
    Rallysportdirect: $25.95

    Diggin the M-frames man!! Great video should help people who are intimidated by the task. I love the I badge my WRX while I was in England had it and GIANT WRX letters on the rear hatch is crazy neon colors! It was a GC8 wagon loved that car!

      Thanks. I get a lot of hate for wearing them. Haha. It's just what I wear. They're comfortable, cheap to replace, & I love the unobstructed field of view. I can't say I care if people don't like them. It's not a fashion show. 😂😂 & that sounds awesome! GC's are the best!

      +HawkeyeSTiGuy I miss it was stupid fun to drive. not gonna lie I have about three pair of Oakley M-frames that I have been issued over the years. my newest set are what I wear to work on the cars since the lines are switchable and they are certified safety glasses so if I wear them at work quality assurance can't yell at me haha

    Great video as usual Mike! It was a fun watch. How much time did this take in total, and how much did it cost for the emblems?

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The I badge is between $20-25 depending on where you get it. Links are in the description. The rear badge is like $37 from subarugenuineparts.com.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      & without filming, lol, it should take about 20-30 mins per badge. Maybe a little more or less depending on how long it takes to remove the old adhesive &/or dirty behind the badge, but some goo gone should take care of that. I also used a razor blade to remove some adhesive since it would not be visible if I scratched the paint behind the badge.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought the same thing. I held off on getting one for a long time because people were saying you had to cut & modify it to fit right. But all it takes is a little 3M tape & trimming down a small tab.

    not a really good instruction clip when you start of by prizing the badge off with a screwdriver risking damaging the paint work at the same time !!!

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't worried about my paint. I didn't damage anything, but my car needs to be repainted anyhow, which is why I wasn't concerned. I always recommend that people place a folded microfiber towel over any painted areas when doing work like this.

    Can you hear your exhaust leak pretty easily? Currently I am chasing down any leaks I may have pre-turbo and any hoses that may be loose. Stupid low boost problems.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, mine got pretty bad. If it's a small leak, it's very easy to miss. I suspect my headers started leaking about 6 months to a year ago, but I just heard it in the past 3 months or so. I would recommend doing a smoke test on both your intake & exhaust if you can, or have a shop do one. It's basically the same idea for both, use smoke(a lit cigarette works) & compressed air, anywhere you see smoke coming out is a leak. I would also check you BPV, sometimes they can leak internally & prevent you from building boost. That's what happened with my Perrin BPV. I actually made a video talking about how you can tell if you have an exhaust leak. th-cam.com/video/egDPQONJBWg/w-d-xo.html

    • @Zcypot
      @Zcypot 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HawkeyeSTiGuy Gotcha thanks! If my tuner cant find the issue tune wise, I will take my car in for a leak test. Yeah I saw your BPV video and that is what has me thinking its the bpv too. Process west sent me a stock BPV too, if the Cobb one is leaking ill replace and hopefully solve the issue.
      12-14psi feels so casual now, even if I got my first evo kill with low boost haha.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would get it tested first, that will save him time trying to diagnose/fix the issue. & yeah, a few months back I showed up a 370z on the highway even with boost leaks. He thought it was really close, so I just let him think that. Lol.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, the vacuum/boost lines are notorious for leaking on Subaru's. That could be another culprit. Hope you get it fixed soon. 👍🏻

    • @Zcypot
      @Zcypot 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      HawkeyeSTiGuy I havent had time to look into it but I had my appointment today to check the tune. Turns out my 3-port EBC went out, I was running on spring pressure. Waste gate duty keeps reaching 90%. We'll see after I get a replacement. The car feels stock lol, I miss my torque.

      The badge for the front is a different size & mounts at a different angle than what is on the rear, so you can try it, but it probably won’t look right.

  • @IZichard
    @IZichard 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jdm STIs actually have a pink 'i' badge, the badge you put on is just a standard Impreza or wrx badge.

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I said JDM because I didn't want to get into the technicalities between the different colors. Pink, blue, or black, the badge is the same dimensions, which is what counts.

    • @IZichard
      @IZichard 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +HawkeyeSTiGuy All good, I just thought you would get the pink one since you have an sti

    • @hawkeyestiguy
      @hawkeyestiguy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +IZichard I thought about it, but I like the blue better, & I think it will go better with the direction I'm going with my car. Plus, for my taste, the car has enough cherry blossom red with the STi emblems. If my car was white or black I most likely would've gone with the pink one.

    • @IZichard

      Don't worry, my paint is completely FUBAR as it is & the car will be fully repainted next year most likely. There were no visible marks left by either the knife or screwdriver. If my paint was flawless, I definitely would've placed a microfiber towel against my car. 👍🏻

    • @Strome88
      @Strome88 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too, I used the less permanent and easier method, I simply decaled over the old emblem, looks great on both ends and still after 2 years (snow, rain, dirt, mud and car washes). I just plan to take it off till Subaru gets its act together ;)
