Maybe it would be helpful at the beginning or end of a reaction to read the artists summary or introduction of the album. While, music is open to interpretation and we bring our own experiences and views to it, there is a reference point. Also, the English version of Like Crazy surprisingly has a couple differences in lyrics, ones that may add to the understanding of the song.
I'm glad and I apologize if I came on strongly but I truly felt at some point it tinted your view and interpretation so much that you didn't really see any other meaning 🙏 and I don't want you to get the wrong impression about his person. But I hope you know that I didn't intend to be hateful to you or anything. I always love your bts album analyses💜
this whole album is his story throughout the pandemic, as he said in a news article. it seems he was quite depressed for some period of time, which would explain the alcohol theme, but he says this album was a cathartic process for him and he's feeling much better now.
@@MichaelBeveraggi he also said on his lives that he doesn’t want to go on live (alone) if he is sick/ not feeling well. Maybe that’s why during pandemic, he only went on live alone with an interval of more than 7months.
i don't know if you've seen it, but there's also a beautiful hidden track on the cd version of face called "letter", it has background vocals by jungkook on it as well :) it's sort of a very candid lyrical letter to everyone who means a lot to him i guess. fun fact - it's not put in as a separate track but it directly continues onto like crazy (english version) at the end of the album, "letter" starts at 6:13 of that track (that's the debut date of bts, june 13th :) he really loves them.)
At least we got a picture of most of them together recently (with a message that the other members not in the photo were their but left early)...However I feel you.
jimin has said it's named set me free pt 2 because it has a connection with and similar themes to yoongi's song 'interlude: set me free' on his 2nd mixtape d2. he also has previously talked about people using him for his money and fame, so i think for the past few years (especially during the pandemic, which just heightened everything) he's been feeling particularly isolated and depressed as a result of that deception by people he thought he could trust. of course, then to cope with that unhealthy dependency on alcohol plays a part. jimin has said he really wanted to portray the range of emotions and experiences that has been his life for the past few years and it may be sad, but that releasing the album has been very cathartic and he's in a much better place recently which i'm so thankful for, super super proud of him
i saw a theory earlier today: face-off: confrontation; trying to get rid of traces he doesnt accept in himself. dive: diving into dreams. like crazy: escapism; choosing to stay in the dream even if it breaks him, avoiding to see the reality. alone: trying to run away, feeling loneliness, (alarm sound: ?waking up from the dream?) smf pt2: acceptance; accepting his inner self, confronting himself, not hiding himself anymore
This album is very personal to jimin, apparently jimin struggled a lot in the years we where dealing with covid, jimin said that he poured his thoughts and his feelings as he was in that moments. He did say to his members that he is lost and doesn't even know what to do anymore, that's why he wanted to write a album to poor out some of those feelings. In a cronológic way with how the songs where constructed he was telling his story, with set me free he is fighting and yelling desperately to set him free, and he understands that he is the only one can set himself free. He is wearing white at the end as a demonstration that he did fight that darkness.... this album was really a masterpiece, very creative the music, lyrics, the mv, the choreography all conveyed the clear message
I loved hearing your interpretations of the songs and the album but I also want to add another interpretation and things that army on twitter said. (and also, english is not my native language so I hope I was able to express everything comprehensively) because "face" is an album talking about his emotions during the pandemic, facing deepest parts of his inner self and trying to accept himself fully - it would be logical to interpret the songs as way more internalized, monologues with himself. like the first line of the description for the album says: "face, the reflection of myself in an unfamiliar appearance" a thing that people mentioned a lot was that that woman in the black jacket could also be his reflection/shadow, his pain or a part of himself that he struggled to except. maybe, his femininity/androgyny that he struggled with accepting in the past. because she's wearing the same thing jimin wore in the "hardware" concept photos. and it would make sense that they were walking in circles - in sync but not crossing paths. and the moment they met - it cut to the scene with jimin staring at himself in the mirror. especially, taking into account his recent photofolio "color: freedom" that was all about him finding and accepting himself, portraying his various sides of gender expression & it contained a lot of queer symbolism. you can also see photos of Mapplethorpe on his pants in the scene in the bathroom. he's a very prominent queer artist that was known for his gay bdsm photography and you can see a lot of parallels with jimin's photos in his photofolio, especially Mapplethorpe' two photos from 1980s called "self-portaits" where he "blurs his gender identity". anywho, just wanted to mention this all because I feel like it's always interesting to hear different interpretations from different people. cr. gaytokki, bichwi, jiminpurr, sapphickoo on twt because they mentioned these things.
Very well said. I'd say simply that, as an older queer person myself, the songs on this album sound & feel like being in the closet, then, "Set Me Free Pt.2," feels like coming out. The lyrics can be read as somewhat ambiguous, but the imagery & aesthetics Jimin has chosen are heavily queer coded. This includes, especially, the reliance on alcohol & bar/drinking culture for escape, release, anesthesia & a sense of belonging, however brief. Also, the underlying tension of longing for the safety to be oneself, whilst constantly being on guard so that your secret - the full truth of who you are - isn't revealed. Material conditions aside, coming out is first an internal process of knowing & loving yourself enough to insist on being in the world as your whole self. Thus, SMF2 is liberatory & anthemic - the sound, lyrics & imagery speak directly to escaping from a prison of one's own making. P.S. Where you've written, "except," it should be, "accept." Other than that, your English is great.
Can y'all leave your stupid "theories" to yourselves. Jimin has been very candid of what the album is about, the songs, and everting. Why do you feel the need to speak over him with your reaching? 😒
Also, if you notice once it goes back to him looking in the mirror, he's now got different makeup on one eye and a single earing on the same side which could also refer to his more 'feminine' parts of himself.
This album is about his depression and lonliness during the pandemic, and him facing himself and exploring those emotions. You are right that you actually focused way too much on the alcohol. You need to check out the behind the scenes and his interviews. "Got to go insane to stay sane" is a line from ON, off the MOTS: 7 album. Also, the choreography in Set Me Free pt.2 was created to represent the energy from ON. Sienna Lalau and The LAB created the choreography for this song.
the words on his body in the set me free MV is a german (austrian) poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. its called "ich lebe mein Leben in wachsenden Ringen" which translates to "I live my life in ever-widening circles"
All great works of art have multiple interpretations, so here's mine: Not a love song and is not as sexual as it seems despite the innuendos. Jimin said that its about escaping reality to deal with one's wounds. The "she" he is referring to isn't necessarily about a love interest but possibly represents Jimin's Anima. We see a girl whose movements mirror Jimin in the mv, they never meet before Jimin cuts to looking at himself in the mirror. What does the Anima means? - An individual's true inner self that in the analytical psychology of Carl Jung reflects archetypal ideals of conduct. Your anima is the unconscious part of your mind that works automatically, without introspection or awareness. Some psychologists believe your anima affects your dreams, fears, and habits (loop this back to what the song is all about). Also the Anima is an inner feminine part of the male personality. Hence the boy and girl kissing is probably Jimin's masculine and feminine side coming together. The person with muddy hands who grabbed Jimin is Jimin himself. What do the mud represent? I'm not 100% sure, but my own personal reading is its Jimin's depression related to covid (and the lack of live performances which he defined himself to) and long standing anxiety. These are the wounds mentioned but not elaborated by our Mochi. In the mv, Party Jimin is interrupted by the mud and he has to go home to Sad Jimin. Which of the 2 Jimins is in the real world? I haven't figured that out yet :( Maybe both of them are not, hence the dreamlike feel of the mv. Jimin himself asked not to be saved and not to be waken up from the dream. He doesn't want to go back to reality... This mv reminds me of Suga's SHADOW but we are dealing with a different part of the SELF here, one not explored by BTS yet 🙂. RM did PERSONA while Jhope did EGO. And of course all great artists are a lil crazy :)
Thank you for reacting to this album. I love this album so much, I feel like it really shows Jimin's talents and what suits his voice better. Also, Jimin said that this album reflected his experiences during the pandemic. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Set me free is not all about alcohol. He is not saying this to alcohol. He basically says he throws away this mask and he’s finally free, he can be himself
I'm not sure that Alone plays into the alcohol theme that much, but i can see how you got that, everyone has their own interpretation ! Face off is definitely about relationships and him drinking a lot when he was feeling bad, he talked about it on suchwita, and Like crazy does follow this theme, him wishing he could stay in this 'dream' but what i got from alone is that him feeling lonely and depressed got him to drink, he did say that back then he didn't realize how bad he was feeling. He also mentioned on his live that he wrote Alone when he spent his days having fun with the members and went home and he was alone and depressed (at least i'm pretty sure thats what he said lol). It's the song that feels the most universal to me because i think a lot of us fell into a really bad depression during the pandemic, and sometimes we could explain it, but other times we couldn't. Some of us still feel that way too But I love how he crafted the album and how he technically ends the album with Set me free pt2 because he's freeing himself from all this pain and embracing the new him while thanking the past jimin for his hard work. I wish you had included letter on youtube too 😢It's one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard jimin sing and the fact that it's just for us fans, like our little secret, makes it even more emotional. Plus we can't ignore jungkook's beautiful vocals
the introduction in dive was from the yet to come busan concert. he also mentioned in an interview that he wanted something to bridge face-off and like crazy, so he added an interlude with these crazy sound effects.
jimin has been my bias in bts, but this whole album has made me respect him soooo much more. every song is connected to each other in a story, he is so raw and vulnerable. i completely agree w the weeknd vibes, i have also been a zayn fan and jimins debut project reminds me of mind of mine in the way they used music to express a side of themselves that was thus far not explored. so so proud, this album is going to be with me for long 💖 like crazy english version is LACED W CRAC
9:06 he is on stage concert he was running then he introduced himself to the crowd. Leave the stage security open the car door for him, sounds of car driving he is not the one driving he is sitting at the back. He arrived home he pour himself a drink the sounds of him drinking it..
"Going insane to stay sane" i think it may be a reference to "ON" by BTS, at least that's how i interpreted it. Also, the album is not about drinking and problems with alcohol, it´s mentioned a few times throught the album but Jimin said it's more about the thoughts and struggles he faced during the pandemic and i think it's related a lot on how his journey with accepting, embracing and loving himself has been since he started his career. Good reaction though, i really like your videos and seeing how, while watching the same thing, we can have completely different views and opinions about it :]
He said he wrote this as a chronology of feelings throughout the pandemic. He wrote Set Me Free when he was feeling lost and depressed during Covid and how he was determined to overcome it. This is not in reference to BTS. He never wants to leave BTS. But this is a way to express his internal struggles during that confined time.💜 A masterpiece of an album, I’d say!!🥰🔥💜
The way I interpreted the album, based on the lyrics, imagery and what Jimin himself has said; this was an album that touches upon his depression throughout the pandemic as well and his identity. Except for the hidden track (which reads exactly like a love letter), I interpreted the album as him questioning who he is. Rather than alcohol (although it can be part of it, but I found it too on the nose for Jimin), it feels like he used to get drunk on the fame and his work, and not that he was without it he was questioning who he was without it. SMF touches upon how the expectations from outside sources made him suppress a lot of who he was but no longer. Like Crazy is very, very queer coded to me, which is not something new for Jimin by the way. The way the woman (both in the MV and the choreo) mirrors him, it feels like a fight between femininity and masculinity, with him embracing both in the end. That, along with the inclusion of Mapplethorpe (which he has referenced before in his photopholio) and a hinted at WLW couple, made me relate a lot. As a queer person, the shot of Jimin standing above a video of people kissing striked me as an image with such loneliness, feeling as if love is unattainable for you, not seeing yourself in any of the images of love out there, being alienated of everything people make love to be... At least that's my interpretation.
No exaggeration to say I've been binging all your reaction to videos to some of my most favorite artists for HOURS, thanks so much for all you do, your content reinspires me from start to finish 💜😭
The thing about BTS is they are generally very transparent about what their art actually means. They make videos explaining the album and its process. They write about it. There is usually no need to try to figure out the message because they will just tell you.
Hahahaha your interpretation is very interesting! Personally I thought it's not rlly abt alcoholism or focused on it anyway but it probably played a part in his struggle and escapism . Thanks for the reaction! I rlly love your listening to BTS albums videos 🙏😊❤️
I love this album. It’s really telling a story about his feelings during the pandemic and the depression and getting better. I will say some of the lyrics in those vids are a bit wonky. The official translations portray the story better with more accurate translations! Great reaction !!
The album is like a novel of poetry, conveying a story --- that is his experience during the pandemic as he confessed in his guesting at the Late Night Show of Jimmy Fallon. You got it right, Jimin's solo stuff is usually themed with self-reflection narattives, talking to his ownself. As an artist, #Jimin is very good at coveying the emotions of his songs or even his lines in BTS' songs, using his vocals. And, he knows he's good at it and so he uses such ability with intelligence. This Album is not only artistically arranged, it is intelligently tailored.
When I listened to the album, immediately after being released, it touched me, even if had no lyrics, his sadness is so vivid! Now, reading the lyrics, I'm crying like a baby... poor my dear Jimin, how much pain his soul has carried 😢 Thanks for your reaction ❤❤
the parallel set me free pt2 has!! the maze, butterfly references, going insane to stay sane lyric and the grandness of the song like ON, the distorted sounds to represent the inner voice like interlude:shadow ! plus the ending scene from lie
Coming from someone that's been a close fan for over 6 years: I want to make it clear that Jimin doesn't have an alcohol addiction though.. It's not as if every night he's drunk. Not every line is being said from a drunk perspective, it's rather that he's describing his general feelings and then there's mention of alcohol since that can ease his feelings. I think you confused the order where drinking comes first, and after that he loses himself and other people. It's rather that due to his job and life that he lost himself and maybe had broken relationships. Maybe for normal people it feels like extreme drunk feelings, but his normal life itself is already intense like a rollercoaster. Since it's so intense he mentions that he eases his mind eith a drink. Not the other way around.😅
Thank you for your review! I love that you acknowledge that the members are not in competition with each other and have unique styles. They are great apart and when together magic happens. I love this album. I think my melancholy soul loves “Alone” but I absolutely love the synth pop sound in Like Crazy. Tbh every track on this album hits 😊💜
I think ur right with the alcohol reference. In the last episode of suchwita with suga, jimin mentioned that he had a really hard time in the pandemic and often times would get drunk (he also said that he’s feeling much better now which makes me really happy) Also the whole mv for like crazy seems like a whole trip in a haze or a drunken state. Alone and face-off also mentioned being drunk…The Fallon performance starts and ends with a drink in his hands. Like escapism with alcohol. Idk this theory seems more obvious since he talked about it himself. Maybe he will talk about it more in his next scheduled livestream… ++ to add on. I don’t mean that alcohol is the whole theme, because it’s not but maybe as a coping mechanism to overcome something..
I was waiting for your reaction on this album :D He was on Jimmy Fallon and had a great in-depth interview with Rolling Stone if you're interested in reading up on his thought process afterwards :) Also: This early after a release the lyric videos literally suck 😬 I hope you will revist them when better translations are available!
Alone is not really about drinking. It's more about his feelings of isolation, depression and loneliness that he is trying to escape from and feeling like he is the only one experiencing while everyone else is happy and smiling. And the thing he wants back is basically the world as it was before the pandemic. It feels a bit like you're interpreting the album being about alcoholism or something 😅
This is a perfect album for me the beautiful vocals and just like usual its not a simple melody in any song theres always intricate production and the distortion on his voice especially in alone is so good
My understanding from Dive is when they do concert they introduce themselves to the audience and when they finishes they cry most of the time because they don't want this to finish and also it is sort of emotions when they hear fans cheering for them they will cry too. Door open and he heard the fan scream and started crying then he went out to introduce himself, after concert finishes went home and started drinking because he want to forget that the concert has finished and he will not see his fans so he wants to stay in this dream. I love Dive because make you imagine what is going on, if you know BTS you will understand what is going on in Dive song and if you know Jimin very well you will understand what is he try to express in his album. Alone again Jimin said this album is expressing the feelings and emotions he has while suffering from depression and loneliness during the pandemic because there is no concerts, no fans and kind of looked in a prison, singer, dancer is all about performing so he kind of lost in this pain and also the members have bought their own apartments so they don't live together as before although the live close to each other but especially Jimin he doesn't like living by himself so it's is a mix of emotions here so he is expressing and reflecting all his thoughts in this album. His songs have deeper concepts than what most people think about like he broke up or getting drunk and being a bad boy in Jimin chapter 2. He always criticize himself and push himself to give the best and many haters in his way so he is trying to be himself and telling his haters to get lost, stronger Jimin is coming to show the whole world what he can do and make everyone falling in to his rabbit hole. I will be the happiest if he will start a relationship because he doesn't deserve to be in pain. so proud of him that he can express himself in through his album and show everybody his style of singing and dancing that he is comfortable with, I am over the moon with his first solo debut 💖
aaaAA!! im so glad someone else also got the feeling that like crazy was so the weeknd!! ahah just a fun little thing that made me giddy, i love them both so much
Hi! Love your channel and album reviews/listening sessions. I love getting to reexperience albums/hear new music via your reactions!! I'm so proud of what Jimin has accomplished through FACE. He put so much care into each track and M/V, and it shows as always. Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! Borahae! 💜 P.S. I have an album/band suggestion for you to consider checking out! They are called One Ok Rock and they are a super well-known J-Rock band who have been trying to catch more traction in the US/UK. Like BTS, this band is extremely versitile in their sound profile, though they lean heavier into the rock/alt genre (think Linkin Park etc.), but they infuse a lot of pop and other influences in their work. Similarly, they have an extensive album selection that doesn't miss. For instance, all of their music has something meaningful to say, yet has a unique sound/direction/is super high quality. Their live performances are absolutely insane, and they have one of the best frontmen I have ever seen. His voice is literally sonic gold and his energy is absolutely electric, genuine, and captivating. They have songs in a mix of Japanese and English since they are a Japanese band, and also have versions of songs in both languages. Their new album is called Luxury Disease. They just finished their US tour for it not too long ago and just a couple days ago they finished opening for MUSE and Evanescence in North America with a set from it. (Fun fact: they've also worked with Ed Sheeran on this album who co-wrote one of the songs called "Renegades"). This is honestly my favorite album of theirs, and they have a LOT of amazing albums. Anyways I could talk for hours about them, like I could talk for hours about BTS, but please consider checking ONE OK ROCK out, especially their new album "Luxury Disease" if you are interested, you will not be diappointed! Thanks always for your genuine reactions! 🙏 😊
Thank u so much for reacting to jimin’s album. I’m super excited with this album💜🔥 If there’s any change, could u do react to yoongi’s solo album (Agust D - D2) too? He is gonna do world tour this year. Thank u so much, i really like your channel🙏🏻💜💜
(sorry for this very long comment) Thoughts/theories/etc. on Set Me Free pt. 2: 1.Background before the song: In an interview with Jimin: When the track list of the album was revealed, many noticed that the prerelease single was designated as “pt. 2” despite the fact that Jimin doesn’t have any existing song to his name titled “Set Me Free”. He confirmed that it’s a nod to a track on bandmate Suga’s second mixtape, D2. “There isn’t a connection, and we weren’t trying to divide one or two parts,” he explains. “But since it turns out my song talks about freedom and moving forward, and Suga’s song talks about some of the stories that come before, I thought it would be good to come after that.” Also, on Jimmy Fallon he said the album is feelings he had during covid. 2.. Set in the music video: (from Kate, PhD7 Run Beautiful on twitter) (she talks about the set design) The panopticon is the very old concept (like 1700s) that was meant to create model prisoners. So, the idea was the prisoners would be visible 24/7 in this large structure. So, while Jimin's lyrics are, "set me free", he is standing in a literal prison. This concept is now applied thinking about surveillance states (CCTV) and social media. (For the nerds this is the work of Foucault and then a bunch of social media, comms, and HCI have picked this up. The "tower" in the middle can actually be empty (self-policing by imagined guard). I could imagine two meanings as I think about it: 1. Jimin subverting the prison by being the guard (taking control) and/or 2. Jimin being his own guard as if he's being monitoring himself given his life experience and past policing from outsiders and talking control via the choreo and lyrics. My other thoughts: If you see where all of BTS trophies are kept it looks similar. 3. The Dance: The spiral is like the fibonscci sequence. "Ancient mathematicians, architects, and philophers understood this pattern [the spiral] was the golden ratio. From the double helix of DNA to the expanding universe, it is the pervasive pattern of life." So, it looked like a coil, cocoon shape like, that was slowly unraveling...Jimin likens the freedom to a Butterfly.... Also, there are parts of the dance that reminds me of these other dances from other BTS songs/Jimin solo songs: Lie, Fake Love, Black Swan, On 4. The Poem on Jimin's chest: (Credit go to-Shreya Negi) The poem Jimin has written on his body is in German and by a famous poet called Rainer Maria Rilke. The poem is called ‘I live my life in widening circles’ and was written in 1899. It's translation: - I live my life in widening circles that reach out across the world I may not complete this last one but I will give myself to it I circle around God, around the primordial tower I've been circling for thousands of years and I still don't know: am I a falcon, a storm, or a great song? 5. Some of the lyrics: -He says Maze which could possibly connect to BTS song called Maze -He says Butterfly which could possibly connect to BTS song called Butterfly -"Gotta go insane to stay sane"-On by BTS, "Going insane to stay sane"-Set Me Free pt. 2 by Jimin (credit goes to CSW7 on twitter) Jimin sings "Set Me Free" 9 times in the chorus, which made me curious what 9 means in numerology. If this wasn't intentional it's one h*ll of a coincidence. Things they looked up... 9 is the last of the single-digit numbers that play a core role in the study of numerology and is the highest ranking of the cardinal numbers. 9 is the number of wisdom and experience. As the final numeral, the number 9 symbolizes awakening and inner wisdom through life experiences and struggles. The number 9 represents a complete journey according to numerology. As the final single-digit number, 9 signifies culmination, although not the final ending. Numerology 9 is more like fulfilling one cycle and preparing for the next one. It's the number that signals the end and a beginning-because as soon as one chapter ends, a new cycle will start. 6. The Auto-tune: The autotune I think it is supposed to be his "shadow" so to speak. BTS has talked a lot about this in their music, especially Map of The Soul 7 album which is inspired by Carl Young theory of Shadow, Ego, and Persona. The shadow is something that we have a hard time with, trails, temptations, as well as things that if people knew about you would shame you or "cancel" you so to speak, etc. So, you will hear him "battling" the shadow/auto tune with his clear voice...
I absolutely loved the fact that he used 'going insane to stay sane' from ON. I think that the original line is 'got to go insane to stay sane' and it feels like he's saying that he's moved on and is actually addressing stuff. I guess he's saying that he brought the pain on and now he's free.
The last post chorus/bridge? In like crazy is so relatable as someone whos addicted to w33d "dont try to save me" like he knows its unhealthy and he needs help but it makes him feel good and doesnt have another way to get that feeling
YASSS IM GLAD YOU REACTED TO THIS! I was waiting for you. There's a hidden track on the physical album (there's lyric videos on youtube) called Letter, "Like Crazy (ENG)" in the album lasts 10 mins long, and Letter starts at 06:13 of the song (06/13 is BTS debut date). Please react to it!!! I cried listening to it reading the lyrics. Face-Off is also my favorite song, but I like them all so much it's very hard to choose.
Your reactions are always so interesting! I like that you don’t just listen to the song but look for the message or a possible interpretation. I love the whole album but my favourite track has to be alone!
I saw the pinned comment and I'm happy that you know that you didn't get the whole meaning of this album, but hearing you basically call him an alcoholic for 30 minutes was a bit unsettling :(
also...even though alcohol is mentioned a lot, it's not something that caused all the issues that jimin was facing (no pun intended). koreans in general LOVE to drink alcohol, they drink a lot, regularly (it's literally a part of their culture and the way the socialise) so jimin uses alcohol as a way to numb the pain, probably, and same with partying (as we see in the "like crazy" mv).
On Suchwita talking to Suga Jimin said he was drinking heavily but he stopped to get himself fit for Vegas. He said he was surprised the members had not given him a hard time over it. Suga said that they had all been through it. Since especially RM has a habit of asking how they are, it suggests they all knew why he was having a hard time so did not need to ask. Jimin also indicated it was also about then spelled out sex in English. So it sounds like there was also an unhappy break up. I think the drinking was because of realising he had been used and was alone again. If you watch all the behind footage Jimin is a very affectionate kind person. Someone abused that.
He was lost... He was loosing himself... The reflection... The girl in the video the anima. This was just after covid and he was lost... Maybe it's a person... I am also thinking something is lost also, a time that was
i'm not entirely sure it's liquor he drinks in Dive, in Korea they keep pretty glass pitchers of water in the fridge and refill those. The way he gulps it down so fast makes me think it's water and not alcohol xD. Probably depicts wine though, at the end of a day.
Please react to The MOST BEAUTIFUL LIFE GOES ON: A STORY OF BTS by Rice Squad...It was the first video I watched about BTS journey, struggles, introduction to BTS members and how they were chosen into the group, and the records BTS broke as they became global. It is a complete package and perfect video for those who want to learn about BTS. It gave me so much information not just about BTS but also gave me a glimpse of the Kpop as a whole. And it is already narrated in English!!! It is so helpful.
The writing on Jimin's body is a german poem by Rainer Maria Rilke! Here is a translation of it: I live my life in ever-widening circles, that stretch themselves out over all the things. Perhaps I won't complete the last one, but I intend on trying. I circle around God, around the ancient tower, and I circle for thousands of years; and I don't know, yet: am I a falcon, a storm, or a mighty song. Edit: it's called "I live my life in ever-widening circles" and was written in 1899^^
also, "set me free pt.2" is named like that because there is an interlude on agust d "d-2" album called "set me free"...so that's why it's part two (to differentiate)
I now understand the album has meanings beyond alcohol 🙂, appreciate you all 💜
the beauty is there can be a lot of interpretationss
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Also important to note that there is nothing wrong with drinking!
this whole album is his story throughout the pandemic, as he said in a news article. it seems he was quite depressed for some period of time, which would explain the alcohol theme, but he says this album was a cathartic process for him and he's feeling much better now.
I love that for him! The end I should say
@@MichaelBeveraggi he also said on his lives that he doesn’t want to go on live (alone) if he is sick/ not feeling well. Maybe that’s why during pandemic, he only went on live alone with an interval of more than 7months.
i don't know if you've seen it, but there's also a beautiful hidden track on the cd version of face called "letter", it has background vocals by jungkook on it as well :)
it's sort of a very candid lyrical letter to everyone who means a lot to him i guess.
fun fact - it's not put in as a separate track but it directly continues onto like crazy (english version) at the end of the album, "letter" starts at 6:13 of that track (that's the debut date of bts, june 13th :) he really loves them.)
Oh god! I'm so excited - my pre-order hasn't arrived yet and I want it to be here NOW 💜
he included the reaction to Letter on his Patreon
@@noxvioleta ah i don't have money for patreon so i didn't know, thanks :)
@@forg_tful. totally understandable. He loved it and was sad/mad because we don't have it available for stream (a very relatable sentiment)
letter is most likely a song for armys - just like 'path' and 'sea' were hidden tracks specifically for us!
I love how on this bts chapter 2 even tho I'm sad we can't see them together we keep getting amazing diverse music left and right
At least we got a picture of most of them together recently (with a message that the other members not in the photo were their but left early)...However I feel you.
jimin has said it's named set me free pt 2 because it has a connection with and similar themes to yoongi's song 'interlude: set me free' on his 2nd mixtape d2. he also has previously talked about people using him for his money and fame, so i think for the past few years (especially during the pandemic, which just heightened everything) he's been feeling particularly isolated and depressed as a result of that deception by people he thought he could trust. of course, then to cope with that unhealthy dependency on alcohol plays a part. jimin has said he really wanted to portray the range of emotions and experiences that has been his life for the past few years and it may be sad, but that releasing the album has been very cathartic and he's in a much better place recently which i'm so thankful for, super super proud of him
Yes, he did a great job👏👏👏👏
💜💜💜Jimin ♥️♥️♥️❤️❤️❤️❤️💜💜💜💜
i saw a theory earlier today:
face-off: confrontation; trying to get rid of traces he doesnt accept in himself.
dive: diving into dreams.
like crazy: escapism; choosing to stay in the dream even if it breaks him, avoiding to see the reality.
alone: trying to run away, feeling loneliness, (alarm sound: ?waking up from the dream?)
smf pt2: acceptance; accepting his inner self, confronting himself, not hiding himself anymore
(and also, english is not my native language so I hope I was able to express everything comprehensively)
because "face" is an album talking about his emotions during the pandemic, facing deepest parts of his inner self and trying to accept himself fully - it would be logical to interpret the songs as way more internalized, monologues with himself.
like the first line of the description for the album says: "face, the reflection of myself in an unfamiliar appearance"
a thing that people mentioned a lot was that that woman in the black jacket could also be his reflection/shadow, his pain or a part of himself that he struggled to except. maybe, his femininity/androgyny that he struggled with accepting in the past. because she's wearing the same thing jimin wore in the "hardware" concept photos. and it would make sense that they were walking in circles - in sync but not crossing paths. and the moment they met - it cut to the scene with jimin staring at himself in the mirror.
especially, taking into account his recent photofolio "color: freedom" that was all about him finding and accepting himself, portraying his various sides of gender expression & it contained a lot of queer symbolism.
you can also see photos of Mapplethorpe on his pants in the scene in the bathroom. he's a very prominent queer artist that was known for his gay bdsm photography and you can see a lot of parallels with jimin's photos in his photofolio, especially Mapplethorpe' two photos from 1980s called "self-portaits" where he "blurs his gender identity".
anywho, just wanted to mention this all because I feel like it's always interesting to hear different interpretations from different people.
cr. gaytokki, bichwi, jiminpurr, sapphickoo on twt because they mentioned these things.
P.S. Where you've written, "except," it should be, "accept." Other than that, your English is great.
this!! great comment
@@goreyfantod5213 oh thanks for the correction:)
and for charing your perspective and experience 💜
And of course all great artists are a lil crazy :)
man so talented, he took part for everything in this album. writing, composing, play guitar, keyboard. im so proud being his stan
Some of us still feel that way too
But I love how he crafted the album and how he technically ends the album with Set me free pt2 because he's freeing himself from all this pain and embracing the new him while thanking the past jimin for his hard work. I wish you had included letter on youtube too 😢It's one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard jimin sing and the fact that it's just for us fans, like our little secret, makes it even more emotional. Plus we can't ignore jungkook's beautiful vocals
the introduction in dive was from the yet to come busan concert. he also mentioned in an interview that he wanted something to bridge face-off and like crazy, so he added an interlude with these crazy sound effects.
jimin has been my bias in bts, but this whole album has made me respect him soooo much more. every song is connected to each other in a story, he is so raw and vulnerable.
i completely agree w the weeknd vibes, i have also been a zayn fan and jimins debut project reminds me of mind of mine in the way they used music to express a side of themselves that was thus far not explored.
so so proud, this album is going to be with me for long 💖
like crazy english version is LACED W CRAC
T H E WHOLE ALBUM
Incredible amazing masterpiece
jiMiN vibeS is Another level🔥like always...
Good reaction though, i really like your videos and seeing how, while watching the same thing, we can have completely different views and opinions about it :]
yayy i always wait for your reaction everytime they release new songs ❤️🩹
He said he wrote this as a chronology of feelings throughout the pandemic. He wrote Set Me Free when he was feeling lost and depressed during Covid and how he was determined to overcome it.
This is not in reference to BTS. He never wants to leave BTS. But this is a way to express his internal struggles during that confined time.💜 A masterpiece of an album, I’d say!!🥰🔥💜
There's a hidden track.... on the physical cd but out there on YT... called 'Letter'.... please go find it if you can!
I love your reactions!! Thanks for posting!
I'm addicted to Interlude Dive and Like crazy
At least that's my interpretation.
there's also a hidden track on the album at the end!! (CD Only tho but you can listen to it on youtube)
Álbum maravilhoso perfeito músicas maravilhosas parabéns Jimin 👍👍👍👍👍
No exaggeration to say I've been binging all your reaction to videos to some of my most favorite artists for HOURS, thanks so much for all you do, your content reinspires me from start to finish 💜😭
11:59 He's so versatile and he can do all the genres yesss 🙏🏼🔥
The writing on Jimin's body in "set me Free pt2" is a German poem that talks about sanity.....he said in behind the scenes it goes well with the song.
Now, reading the lyrics, I'm crying like a baby... poor my dear Jimin, how much pain his soul has carried 😢
Thanks for your reaction ❤❤
Jimin said This whole album is chronologically what he felt, and went through during the pandemic
the parallel set me free pt2 has!! the maze, butterfly references, going insane to stay sane lyric and the grandness of the song like ON, the distorted sounds to represent the inner voice like interlude:shadow ! plus the ending scene from lie
Set me free (part 1) is a song on Agust D album D2.
The text on his body is a German poem
The two have the same message to this song
Coming from someone that's been a close fan for over 6 years:
I want to make it clear that Jimin doesn't have an alcohol addiction though..
How do u know he does not have alcohol addiction tho??... He can drink every night n u wouldn't even know😅😅
@@alphamigo111
@@alphamigo111 Because there are strict around idols when it comes to alcohol to avoid addiction
In the last episode of suchwita with suga, jimin mentioned that he had a really hard time in the pandemic and often times would get drunk (he also said that he’s feeling much better now which makes me really happy)
Also the whole mv for like crazy seems like a whole trip in a haze or a drunken state. Alone and face-off also mentioned being drunk…The Fallon performance starts and ends with a drink in his hands. Like escapism with alcohol. Idk this theory seems more obvious since he talked about it himself. Maybe he will talk about it more in his next scheduled livestream…
++ to add on. I don’t mean that alcohol is the whole theme, because it’s not but maybe as a coping mechanism to overcome something..
Yes, this whole album just stunned me.
But it can be interpreted in term of alcohol too tho😅
I recently found out abt this album he slayed
I love that you wore Paint by Zayn btw❤
So beautiful 😭😭
WAITING FOR THIS
He is just so heartbroken but finally free
aaaAA!! im so glad someone else also got the feeling that like crazy was so the weeknd!! ahah just a fun little thing that made me giddy, i love them both so much
Hi! Love your channel and album reviews/listening sessions. I love getting to reexperience albums/hear new music via your reactions!! I'm so proud of what Jimin has accomplished through FACE. He put so much care into each track and M/V, and it shows as always. Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! Borahae! 💜
I’m super excited with this album💜🔥
If there’s any change, could u do react to yoongi’s solo album (Agust D - D2) too? He is gonna do world tour this year. Thank u so much, i really like your channel🙏🏻💜💜
Yess, and also set me free pt1 is on d2 album🙌🏻
(sorry for this very long comment)
Thoughts/theories/etc. on Set Me Free pt. 2:
1.Background before the song:
In an interview with Jimin:
When the track list of the album was revealed, many noticed that the prerelease single was designated as “pt. “But since it turns out my song talks about freedom and moving forward, and Suga’s song talks about some of the stories that come before, I thought it would be good to come after that.”
Also, on Jimmy Fallon he said the album is feelings he had during covid.
2.. Set in the music video:
(from Kate, PhD7 Run Beautiful on twitter) (she talks about the set design)
The panopticon is the very old concept (like 1700s) that was meant to create model prisoners.
3. The Dance:
The spiral is like the fibonscci sequence.
Also, there are parts of the dance that reminds me of these other dances from other BTS songs/Jimin solo songs: Lie, Fake Love, Black Swan, On
4. The Poem on Jimin's chest:
(Credit go to-Shreya Negi)
The poem Jimin has written on his body is in German and by a famous poet called Rainer Maria Rilke.
The poem is called ‘I live my life in widening circles’ and was written in 1899.
It's translation: -
I live my life in widening circles
that reach out across the world
I may not complete this last one
but I will give myself to it
I circle around God, around the primordial tower
I've been circling for thousands of years
and I still don't know: am I a falcon,
a storm, or a great song?
5. Some of the lyrics:
-He says Maze which could possibly connect to BTS song called Maze
-He says Butterfly which could possibly connect to BTS song called Butterfly
-"Gotta go insane to stay sane"-On by BTS, "Going insane to stay sane"-Set Me Free pt. 2 by Jimin
(credit goes to CSW7 on twitter)
Jimin sings "Set Me Free" 9 times in the chorus, which made me curious what 9 means in numerology.
6. The Auto-tune:
The autotune I think it is supposed to be his "shadow" so to speak.
I love this album. Jimin has excelled with this. I love how RM has writing credits on a couple of the songs too.
Oh😭 thanks for the reaction.
I really hope that everyone who attacks Jimin because of autotune sees your sincere reaction.💜💜💜
Face-Off is also my favorite song, but I like them all so much it's very hard to choose.
drank a bit while listening to like crazy, 10/10 would recommend
The hidden track is my favorite song on the album. I hope you react to it. 💜
Michael, love you haha also my fav is face off that song is everything
i was waiting for your reaction!
The interlude on Yoongi’s second mixtape is Set Me Free pt. 1
Yesss!! Thank you for thisss
Was waiting for your reaction thank u so much for reacting to JIMIN💜
Your reactions are always so interesting! I like that you don’t just listen to the song but look for the message or a possible interpretation. I love the whole album but my favourite track has to be alone!
I saw the pinned comment and I'm happy that you know that you didn't get the whole meaning of this album, but hearing you basically call him an alcoholic for 30 minutes was a bit unsettling :(
Yeah it was a HUGE turn off. This is why he NEEDS to do research😂
There’s a hidden track (Letter) on the physical CD… a beautifully intimate song.
thank you for ur reaction! now i get the meaning of jimin's new album!
There’s also a hidden track!! 🥹💜
also...even though alcohol is mentioned a lot, it's not something that caused all the issues that jimin was facing (no pun intended).
koreans in general LOVE to drink alcohol, they drink a lot, regularly (it's literally a part of their culture and the way the socialise) so jimin uses alcohol as a way to numb the pain, probably, and same with partying (as we see in the "like crazy" mv).
You have to listen to Like Crazy English version. At 6:13 there is another hidden track. You don’t want to miss it!
I appreciate ur reactions 🙏🏽
There is also a hidden track called letter which is the icing on cake. There is a lyric video here on TH-cam . You need to see it too.
i love your reactionnn 🥰
And is when he said what he wanted to say ,!!!it my time now
You wouldn’t believe how much hate set me free pt2 received when it came out
Excellent review!!!
Jimin brilliant
Please react to letter (hidden track) too. Its an absolute gem of a song. Very soothing. Very jimin. Please
There's a hidden song for the Army called Letter. Please check that out.. 💜
He was lost... He was loosing himself... The reflection... The girl in the video the anima. This was just after covid and he was lost... Maybe it's a person... I am also thinking something is lost also, a time that was
26:31 the tattoos are a german poem with a similar message
i'm not entirely sure it's liquor he drinks in Dive, in Korea they keep pretty glass pitchers of water in the fridge and refill those. The way he gulps it down so fast makes me think it's water and not alcohol xD. Probably depicts wine though, at the end of a day.
I've been expecting your reaction to this album even before it released 😭🖐
Please react to The MOST BEAUTIFUL LIFE GOES ON: A STORY OF BTS by Rice Squad...It was the first video I watched about BTS journey, struggles, introduction to BTS members and how they were chosen into the group, and the records BTS broke as they became global. It is a complete package and perfect video for those who want to learn about BTS. It gave me so much information not just about BTS but also gave me a glimpse of the Kpop as a whole. And it is already narrated in English!!! It is so helpful.
Face is so addictively good
The writing on Jimin's body is a german poem by Rainer Maria Rilke! Here is a translation of it:
I live my life in ever-widening circles,
that stretch themselves out over all the things.
Perhaps I won't complete the last one,
but I intend on trying.
I circle around God, around the ancient tower,
and I circle for thousands of years;
and I don't know, yet: am I a falcon, a storm,
or a mighty song.
Edit: it's called "I live my life in ever-widening circles" and was written in 1899^^
To me DIVE is him doing a love show/concert and us following to after. When he gets in the car and goes back to his house/hotel and pours a drink.
Deberías reaccionar a Lie, la discográfica de Jimin es alucinante como todas sus canciones se conectan
Namjoon has writing credits on this album too !
also, "set me free pt.2" is named like that because there is an interlude on agust d "d-2" album called "set me free"...so that's why it's part two (to differentiate)

the hidden track is amazing

Ok I think you REALLY got caught up too much in the drinks thing 😅 the whole album is really not about alcohol
