Wearing this today. I definitely get the vanilla. I also get something that smells like either fabric softener or dryer sheets. I guess that's the orange blossom? The combination almost gives this an aromatic or barbershop tinge (not quite, but almost.) I've heard mixed reviews on this one, but my first impressions are that I quite like this. If it improves with time, like Ash mentioned, I think this this could be a big hit for them.
I personally find PDM bottles need a month or two to macerate after first sprays. I thought Layton was horrendous at first, then went back a few months later and loved it.
This is one of my all time favorites. I have a pretty large collection, but have gotten more compliments on this fragrance than any others, including my Creed colognes.
I had Layton, Layton Exc, Herod, Carlisle, and Percival and was grateful they were all solid blind buys. The retail store I shop at now carries PDM so I got to try the entire lineup and the two that stood out above the rest that I don’t have are Oajan…and Althair. I went back and got Althair the next day lol. I’ll get Oajan soon. Pegasus Exc also caught my interest, perhaps down the road.
@@jserrano316 Objectively I would definitely agree with you. Unfortunately the intense smell of tabac in Herod is too much for me personally, even if I love my Xerjoff Naxos. It seems that Herod's tabac note is very intense, but many people love exactly that original tabac smell
Got talked into buying this by the saleslady at the perfume store. Experienced quite a bit a buyer's remorse, due mostly to the high price. That is, until I started wearing it. Each time I wear it, I like it more. Caveat: I would say it has about a 50-55% overlap with Layton.
It’s definitely the PDM dna in the base of the fragrance. Layton Ex, Haltane, Althair, Carlisle and a couple others ALL have the same warm heliotropin homofuranol vanillin Maltol coumarin base to make their “praline” accord.
I get that synthetic sweetness in the opening of Layton as well! I was almost slightly disappointed with Layton until the 3rd/4th wear…since then I’ve been in love with it. I wonder if the same applies to this fragrance?
A coworker brought in a bottle of this that I got to smell and I absolutely loved it. I definitely like the sweeter gourmand scents and I definitely like vanilla. The praline slaps. I wanted to take a bite out of the arm that I sprayed it on, that's how delicious it smelled.
I have a few of these type fragrances including Althair and Eau des Baux and I prefer Eau des Baux.. and obviously it’s way cheaper and I get more love / compliments from Eau des Baux … I do love Althair though it’s like he said the more you smell it the more addictive it is …
I absolutely love it,, but prefer duas the eagle has landed,, nothing like alternative hair , and a begging letter. Ps reminds me of holicks and maltessers .
I have just 2 fragrances outside my work fragrance ( nishane wulong cha).....daytime year around : percival and nightime year around: althair....works for me for every occasion....don't feel like i need anything else..😊😊
I’ve had dunhill desire red and Mercedes club black for a few years now and the couple times I smelled this at the store I didn’t really get all the comparisons. I think it’s pretty unique and kind of reminds me of a root beer float
2 months after my initial comment about it becoming too sweet, it’s really growing on me. I have samples (direct from PDM, free with another purchase), very much enjoying now, and very tempted to purchase full bottle before the Black Friday thingy finishes.
Hmmmm… I don’t think Parfums de Marly HAVE 50ml bottles 😅😅 They only have 75ml & 125ml 😅🤷♂️ If you have a 50ml bottle… I’m afraid it’s a counterfeit 🥲
PDM is a niche brand, Designer brands i.e. Dior,Armani, and Versace are usually more mainstream and popular amongst the public usually due to simplicity/ease of access/price. You’ll be alright.
i just got a decant of this and have only worn it once, am i the only one who felt the cinnamon, bourbon, pepper, overall spiciness overpowering in the opening
3:11 It's a riot!! Give Ash a normal bottle and a new box!😢💯 Either Aqua Atlantis will send a broken bottle, or Aqua Di Gio passing a spray bottle, now PDM has distinguished themselves, but Ash does a very useful job for you. It's depressing 💔🤗
Maybe I’m tripping but there’s a sweetness or maybe the ambroxan that I pick up in in Bond No 9 Lafayette Street that I also pick up in Althair…not sayin they smell similar but they share certain nuances…anyone else pick up on that ?
I'm obsessed with it. I got a sample and knew I couldn't swing that cash, so, searched and found a perfect clone. The dua brand " the eagle has landed" honeslty side by side they are pretty exact. Dua is alittle more vanilla and alittle more menthol, which is kinda what I like about it. I will be saving up for the real deal, its that worth it to me. Even though i get the exact same thing from dua, i want the real one too. I found the dua did actually last longer too.
Maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s bc I’ve only put my nose to Haltane & Sedley. But Haltane is GROSSLY underrated imo. The fact it isn’t considered a heavy hitter still baffles me
I always wonder that people assign this fragrance to fall or winter. It does have vanilla but the extreme floral notes make it a clear spring scent to me. It smells around 85% like Nikos - Sculpture Homme EdT to me
I really wonder what these ‘samples’ are when people say it lasts a couple of hours. It lasts a long time! But alas for me after the lovely orange/citrus opening, it becomes (for me anyway) terribly sweet and stays that way for hours.
I’m about to blind buy and I’m having a hard time choosing between Herod and Althair i haven’t smelled either but like the notes on both which one do you think would project more and which one should i choose
@@BassAcoustic-ww1eu Absolutely! I was worried at first because the packaging was completely blue, without the usual stripes. It's now the new look and the fragrance hasn't changed. Had a few samples before and the longevity is still impressive for a fresh one!
PDM names its perfumes after horses' names, and some of these horses are Arabians, and have Arabic names. In this case this one is pronounced Altha-ir which translates to 'the rebellious' in Arabic. The 'th' in Altair is pronounced θ, like in the word 'thing'
A bit overrated imo. I'm not really fond of the opening. It's too bergamot-y, and it smells like your typical Aqua di Gio parfume. I don't feel the cinnamon at all, the citrus is too overpowering. I really like the middle notes, with the vanilla and honey-like scent. People say it's strong, I don't think it is. If you want something sweet, I'd go with Atlas Fever of Ex Nihilo. But then again, it's all a matter of tastes. It's still a really nice parfume, just not for me.
I bought the sample set and so far greenley sedley Pegasus haltane percival on me all ranging from really offputting to disappointing for the price . Pegasus was the closest but the cumin note was like finding a fingernail In your dessert two spoons in . Percival got overpowered by the jasmine and coriander to the point that it gave me fabuloso vibes

I layered this over Kalan today, and it's amazing!!
I’m a fan. This, Oajan and Percival are my favourites. Only currently own Percival and Herod though…
Tried them all at various times. The only one that lured me back was Althair. Reminds me of a winter camp fire and a smooth bourbon.

I bought Althair yesterday during the BlackFriday event directly from the PDM website. I got tons of free stuff with it.
I get compliments every time i wear it from men and women. Conversation starter 😁
