      @homebrewGT At this point, when my new reservation comes around, the deck 2 will probably be out. Its kind of absurd that i had to wait like 7 months and now ive gotta wait another 6 months. I kinda dont even care anymore and am tempted to just buy a switch lite. I dont think i care as much as i thought although tis cool. If i didnt have to wait so long, maybe. The fact that i can just go to the store and buy the lite, is quite appealing atm.

      Linux has way better drivers for AMD, and even Windows games on SteamOS via Proton often run faster than on Windows on a Steam Deck because of this (though not all of them, of course), so it would probably run better overall. Someone should try installing any decent GNU/Linux distro on this (not necessarily SteamOS).

    • @LG1ikLx
      @LG1ikLx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tbh with you I think games would perform about the same, maybe slightly worse unless the games native to Linux then you mite get slightly better performance with good GPU drivers.
      Allot of GPU drivers for Linux tend to be old unless you get some decent 3rd party ones. Ontop of that you always have to use Wine to emulate directx graphics. (Proton is built from the wine source).
      That being said gaming on Linux has come such a long way. It's impossible to say how much Valve has done for the Linux gaming community. If the Steam deck continues to be successful maybe people will consider using Linux on other devices aswell. Especially with Microsoft's TPM 2.0 requirement as not everyone can afford to spend money on a new motherboard and CPU with those features. Linux mite be their only option to have a secure PC.
      Linux is better then Windows. But windows gets more support.

    don't get me wrong. The Aya Neo does have some slight benefits like assetetetics and smaller form. the 400 steam deck still out performs the neo on the 1000 dollar model. It's like this: in my opinion, 1000 bucks should not be handheld territory, period. but more gaming desktop/laptop territory. That's why the steam deck seems more of not even just the price conscious choice here, but also better performance and logical choice hands down. Me personally, I'm happy with my switch so I wouldn't invest in a steam deck or Aya Neo at this price point. I'd assume just getting a gaming rig.

      That's the only advantage Valve has for now. Once and if these companies can have some store and leverage that they can easily become a competitor. In absence of any such store all these companies are left with is innovation. Their purpose is to sell what's like 5000 units and move to next powerful SOC. Till Valve starts utilizing the 7000u series these Companies will have something to sell since a lot of these Chinese Companies have already moved to 6800u which is considerably more powerful than the custom SOC inside Steam Deck. So at least people can say that they are playing for some premium powerful device. Steam off course cannot afford to do that because it has to look how Deck has an effect on sales in steam store.

    Thanks for being realistic in your review. I think you should’ve given us a little more info about what was wrong with the SD Card in this video, and contrast that with the SteamDeck’s.
    But I’m glad you didn’t do what most TH-camrs do, and get so enamored with the form factor that you completely disregard the practical reality of this thing, when it comes to price, in a world where Switches and SteamDecks exist.
    However, I’m surprised you didn’t attempt an install of SteamOS on the device, to check compat, and get a true 1 to 1 comparison with the Deck

    God, they were so close. The concept was so compelling, but that battery life kills it all. I could even deal with the old Vega graphics and performance, but if I'm going to have constant battery anxiety, not worth it. That OLED screen had me hooked too. I just cancelled my preorder, but luckily, I have a Steam Deck coming next week. I was planning to sell the Deck and Keep the Air, but I guess my plans just changed. I heard from way too many sources that both models have battery issues, and OLED isn't going to help with that. I hate to go back to an LED display after being spoiled by my gaming monitor, phone, and Switch OLED, but the Steam Deck it is.

      @@chancebrady2 Yeah, you're right. The Pro Aya Air is 38mAh and the Deck is 40mAh. Not much difference, but I did hear that the Steam Deck is optimized to drain the battery slower than off the shelf hardware like thats been slapped together. Still though, I hear the battery is an issue on Deck as well. Guess I should have looked into these things a bit more before cancelling my Ayaneo Air.

      @@bluemidnight5926 personally I'm fine with it. Yes you can adjust settings to improve battery life. Not a whole lot on AAA games tho. But that's fine for me. I have just been tinkering and playing for like an hour before bed. And if I dock it on my TV it has power anyway. I'm just so amazed by ALL it does do tho. I mean I stream from my ps5. @@chancebrady2 You seem like a good person to ask about this, but how is modding games on the Steam Deck? It it possible to do on Steam OS? Thing about the Steam Deck is that it has the Track pads that can be configured to do a whole bunch of things the Ayaneo cannot. Playing simulator games for example can be done on the Steam Deck but cannot be done on the Ayaneo.
