We are absolutely thrilled and honored to be included in the PRS Journal Club this month! Thanks to Drs. Shafqat, Purnell, and Frey and especially Dr. Chang for the thoughtful discussion on our work - hopefully our update to the Gustilo classification will be useful to our reconstructive colleagues. As they point out, venous outflow is just as important as adequate inflow. We did evaluate our venous outflow with regard to deep and superficial recipient systems and 1 vs. 2 veins. We found no difference in deep vs. superficial venous recipient systems, however, two veins were found to be beneficial - particularly among muscle flaps.
