    not sure what’s more impressive, walking bases loaded in 12 pitches or getting out of the inning striking out the next 3 batters

    • @aa-ze5cz
      @aa-ze5cz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +153

      Or the ump blowing 2 strikes, one which saved another walk, and another forcing the strikeout.

      For the Phillies, it is an art form to see how we can get out of the half inning without scoring a run when we have bases loaded, no outs

    • @keyton1928
      @keyton1928 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@aa-ze5cz he blew a strike as well. It evens out and all were right next to the edge of the plate which is all you can ask for from an ump. Also, the one that was just maybe inside that could’ve led to a walk doesn’t mean he would’ve walked. He very likely throws a different pitch if the one before it was called a ball.

    • @taquaywhite4503
      @taquaywhite4503 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 12 straight pitches is more improbable because that means for the most part you are just missing your spot every pitch or the batter is just spitting on everything

      Great trade with the Dodgers, for both teams. The Scherzer run in LA last year was fun as heck and Turner is an all star this year. You put Turner back on the Nats this year and he helps, but not enough to get the Nats into contention. Meanwhile Ruiz was just one of 4 guys the Nats got back. That trade will be paying dividends for the Nats for years. In LA Ruiz would have just been blocked by Will Smith.

    But there's just something about watching Jomboy break down even the slightest, intricate details that I easily would overlook regarding different pitches, offensive strategies, rarely seen rules from the book, etc. (not to mention the awesome lip reading) that makes me actually grow more and more interested and into it. In college I walked the bases loaded because I had 0 feel for my fastball that day. However after loading them I struck out 2/3 and popped 1 guy up with all curveballs. It has always been an bad/impressive baseball memory. I am not sure if it is worse that I walked them full or great since I maintained my composure and found a way to get out of the inning.

    I played baseball at the college level and still didn’t understand how hard it was to hit a pitch until you overlayed two pitches over each other

    • @extragoogleaccount6061
      @extragoogleaccount6061 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Was it mostly instinct-based for you? I always find it interesting what pitches guys swing on and wonder how often they decide beforehand whether they will swing on a pitch. Sometimes guys swing on a ball that bounces across the plate, and I question whether they are actually reacting to the pitch or doing what they planned beforehand. In fact, I think the human reaction time makes it pretty hard when guys are throwing 95..but I also have to believe there is a "hitter's instinct" as well.

    Ah good old Carl Edwards, Jr. - former Cub. 2017 NLCS. Not sure which game but at Wrigley. Cubs were leading but it was close. Dodgers have two runners on first and second with one out. Yu Darvish is at bat, CEJr is on the mound. Every Cub fan at Wrigley is thinking - this should be as simple as a strike out or a double play and out of the inning. CEJr proceeds to throw 3 balls in row nowhere near the strike zone. Prompting the catcher to come to the mound to give him a moment and re-focus. Again, all the Cubs fans are thinking (me included) - it's the pitcher, throw it down the middle for an easy strike.It's the pitcher, let him swing a way, chances are excellent for a double play. Darvish fouls off the next pitch so 3-1. Naturally, next pitch is nowhere near the strike zone. Darvish walks. Dodger fans are ROFL, Cub fans are stupefied. I think the Dodgers picked up a couple of runs in the inning and eventually won the game... He was let go in the offseason. Happy to see him back with another major league team. No ill will towards him. Cubs didn't have a chance in that NLCS anway.

    There was an absolutely wild turn of events a couple weeks ago (I think?) in a nats game where the whole team was walking off the field and the ump called that a run had scored that shouldn’t have scored but then it couldn’t be overturned because they had left the field already. It was a lot so I’m def forgetting things. Would love to see a breakdown of it though!
