God almighty, her voice is incredible, such clarity, tone and fabulous pitch..!! She sang at my small high school's graduation, what a treat. Her sister Holly Collins was a student there

Judy Collins has such a sweet voice. Then add Graham Nash and you have a great rendition of a classic Randy Newman song.

FROM Fredtripod: Sitting in my house on the top of a mountain, listening to Judy Collins, with a glass of whiskey, lights off, feeding on old memories . . . I hate getting old . . . Thank you Judy for taking me back to my youth and all the hope and freedom that I once had. X
FROM vegantamales: Such a beautiful song, one of her absolute best. Thank you Judy.

I don't think of Randy Newman as a writer of pop songs. He was, imo, more of a composer of art songs.

It is incredible to watch and hear Judy and Graham Nash sing Randy Newman's masterpiece 24 years after she recorded it the first time for her album "In My Life" in 1966. It is 2014 now and 24 years ago this was recorded. Like her version recorded on New Years Eve 1967 on the Smothers Brothers, this is enchanting and extraordinary. This is an incredible rendition as is the elegant and mysterious performance from that glorious 1967 performance. Brilliant and timeless. I love you Judy!

I love you Judy, your voice brings joy to many people. Songs like this are immeasurably better than the pop crap being spewed out today. Though I'm sure Judy could make even that enjoyable.

from vsibirsky: Just watched a video of Judy in 1969. Well . . . she is even more beautiful as a mature woman and her voice has been watched over by the angels! Hearing Graham Nash sing with her makes me believe that every once in a while the sound of two special voices singing together reaches heaven with every note. Thanks for putting this here!

FROM sweinreich: Beautiful rendition of this Randy Newman classic. I feel that Judy has captured the emotion of the song as well as Bette Midler did in the film Beaches. I'm proud to say that Judy Collins and I graduated from the same high school in Denver, Colorado.
FROM JordanDurell: I heard this song a long, long time ago. Maybe during the summer of love? It stuck in the back of my mind, what a beautiful song. I hadn't heard it again until I heard it here on TH-cam. I LOVE TH-cam.

FROM muizeekphanahtic: The smooth/silky vocals of Judy Collins were definitely suited for a special ballad like this and was poignantly enhanced by the hushed/aching vocals by Graham Nash. Two 60s musical icons who defined their times as much as the politicans/athletes did. The piano playing is syrupy sweet & the harmonies are exquisite/captivating. A really unique performance. I only wish it was available on CD.

FROM matthewf335: I remember Judy from way back in 1964. You're right, there was a lot of hope and freedom back then; interesting thing is that I haven't lost it. Fact is, I've got more of it now than I had back "in the day." I don't miss being 18; was too damned painful. I thank my Father for where I am now. I wish it could have been an easier ride, but it's been worth it . . . and people like Judy and CSN and the Muppers (!) have all made it a gas! Sorry for rambling on like this . . .

FROM pinkkouw: Oh . . . this is so beautiful . . . I have tears in my eyes -- trying not to drop them on my keyboard. The lyrics and the voices of Judy and Graham -- for me this is all that music ought to be.

I like Judy Collins, but I don't particularly like this rendition. This song as written is a sarcastic and desperately sad statement on humanity. I don't think she and Nash capture it's real meaning.

Way too busy piano for the song and she misses the main internal rhyme structure of the song. Might be pretty, but it is a pretty butchering...
