    Collapsible A was found by the RMS Oceanic 200 miles adrift, about a month later, tragically with three frozen bodies still onboard. The lifeboat was still badly waterlogged. A written account by one of the officers on board the Oceanic describes how when they tried recover the bodies, their arms came off in the hands of the boarding officer. There were also women’s rings in the bottom of the boat from wives and daughters who had become separated and either drowned or frozen in the icy waters. That is a gruesome but harrowing and a sobering insight as to the aftermath of the tragedy

    The most remarkable story I learned just over a year ago was that the engineers and stokers were below all that time, dedicated to saving as many passangers above as they could, pumping out water and striving to maintain electrical power till the last possible second. They were down there when the ship broke in half. One of them, I believe, survived and gave testimony in the inquiries. A story that beats the hell out of Jim Cameron's 1990s chick flick.

    It is amazing how Collapsible B was upside down in the water and yet had more survivors than Collapsible A. I know Charles Lightoller was being tough on people when loading the lifeboats earlier, but at least he had calmed down after diving into the frigid water which he nearly drowned in until he let go of the webley revolver he had in his coat pocket. And on Collapsible B, he did a good job calming and organizing the frightened and shivering men who were on it with him and gave them great guidance to shift their weight with swells to keep that overturned lifeboat floating decently until other lifeboats came back for them.

      true.. but also consider that if it was stormy or even slightly windy, the sea wouldn't of been so calm, so there would of been a significantly higher chance of the lookouts noticing the iceberg sooner. it was the fact that it was so calm combined with a lack of binoculars of course, that they couldn't hear of see any waves smashing against it that played a large part of it hitting the iceberg in the first place.

    A distant relative of mine was on the Titanic and he survived, he was in 3rd class and was told to go back to his cabin and he decided maybe he should leave when water started gushing in under the door, when he got on deck he eventually got to collapsible B lifeboat, but before it was launched water was already gushing round it so along with some firemen he jumped into the water and then as the lifeboat was washed overboard he grabbed onto it as it floated near the forward funnel, moments later the funnel came crashing down. After that he managed to climb in he was in waist high deep water, he describes how people were pushing people away to stop it from being overwhelmed, now he says in his witness testimony it was others, but my friend keeps telling everyone he was the one pushing people away.
    Oh and then after that some guy asked how many catholics were on board and all of them started saying the Lord prayer and then hail mary.

    These life boats are often forgotten, which they shouldn't be. The Edmond Fitzgerald is a ship I can remember my mom hearing of, from that famous song. She actually has a rule we can't sing that song, because she won't have us making such a wreck be known as a folly in a song.
    My mom is an amateur historian and looked into it and many small incidents that happened in Maryland. That's also where I learned of the Titanic from her because she watched the news coverage of Robert Ballard finding the ship back in the 80s. My mom has many books on the Titanic (many she won't lend to me since she knows me keeping her books)
    We definitely must find out more we can about these ships before they're gone. Especially the Titanic. Since that is being eaten away.
    My question is since this week the Titanic movie is being re released in 3D *Me and my husband saw it made the sinking more intense and heart wrenching. I bawled at Nearer Thy to God every time I see that scene*
    Also a suggestion if you go to Baltimore Maryland.
    Explore the USS Constellation. I did it as a child. And I've never forgotten that ship, as long as i live.

    " Even if they were in a lifeboat,
    THEY WERE STILL DEALING WITH THAT FREEZING COLD WATAAA ".
    * Sigh..
    I have so much respect for the engineers of the ship, when they had the option to abandon the depths of the ship and flee to the lifeboat deck,
    they chose to stay behind and do their best to slow down the sinking.
    We need more people like that in today's corrupt and dangerous world.
    Put their life before yours, you deserve a special spot in Heaven..

    Did you say Harold Bride was in the wrong place, wrong time when a boat landed on him? I call it perfect timing. It basically means he was in the perfect spot to be one of the first on the boat while there was still enough room.

    • @DANIELLE_BREANNA_LACY
      @DANIELLE_BREANNA_LACY ปีที่แล้ว

      It sure was perfect timing and that was about the best place he could end up. Even though the Collapsible B lifeboat landed on him, it didn’t injure him and he was able to swim out from under it and climb out of the water, onto its upturned bottom with a couple dozen other people which helped them survive until other lifeboats came back for them.

    The other problem that they had with Collapsible A was that they could not get the skirting up so the boat remained almost flush with the water. The four collapsible boats had canvas sides that were supposed to be lifted up and held in place by hinged struts. Boats C and D were properly launched with their sides up but for some reason, the people in boat A could not work out how to raise the skirts.
