I think with some comedians, and I think Johnny Vaughan said this, is that they've worked out a funny 30 minutes set that gets laughs and has some structure, but aren't necessarily just conversationally funny.
With Bob I think the complete opposite, not saying he can't write funny stuff (like, not saying that at all), but I really think this is Bob basically all day every day

They both find humour in the banal but beautiful absurdist twists. And Bob is the master.
I love Bob Mortimer and Richard, and I don't think I've seen Richard drop his "persona" so thoroughly and just be willing to laugh and riff with someone; but the one thing that I really dislike about this story, is that "I once invested in a reverse toilet with an American actor" would have been a perfect story for Bob to freak David Mitchell out with on Would I Lie to You.
The SECOND Bob said "it WAS Christian Slater!" I immediately had WILTY alarms go off and I berated myself for not identifying a "Bob Mortimer Story (tm)" sooner during the exchange in this video. HOW did it sneak up on me?!! Was I only casually listening?!?! How did I miss the first clue?
I had to replay it - I should've detected it at Bob's "I once invested in a reverse toilet". Did I get distracted by Richard's obvious response that we all were thinking? That must've been it, but still, I should've known better than to let down my guard so easily. Cuz dagnabbit! Of COURSE it was Richard's wildly out of left field guess of "Christian Slater" - THAT'S exactly the type of insane serendipity that would be consistent in a conversation with Bob Mortimer... involving his stories, of course. 😁🤣😁. What a bloody world treasure Bob Mortimer is. Just an anomaly of a human being. 😁♥️💕

@@tinaperez7393 Richard's guess wasn't quite out of left field, as he's extremely knowledgeable about the film world, and it could only have been Christian Slater, in the 2004 satire 'Churchill: the Hollywood years' in which Bob appeared in his only big budget film appearance. Bob met Christian, so it's down to whether you believe he actually did pitch the whole toilet idea or not. Even after watching this I'm no wiser, Bob could still use this on 'Would I lie to you, I'd be in the same dilemma as David Mitchell and I still can't decide if it's 'true' or a 'lie'.
I haven't seen richard nearly crying before because of laughing. This is why Bob is superior to every other comedian around

I also laugh like a loon when he tells them about his stint as hairdresser and being paid in egg sandwiches during the world cup and Rob asks him if he still cuts hair and Bob says " Oh not so much now Rob " for some reason the way he says it always has me in hysterics.

@@akaNOCTURN the thing about comedians, whenever they have a really funny story, it's usually been refined to a point that makes it really funny, which like you said, is a bit. You notice this if you follow most of their work. I've noticed this with James Acaster and Bob Mortimer, binging on whatever shows/podcasts they're on.
I'm not complaining though because I always enjoy hearing them talk about it with other comedians.
Name me a more delightful man on this earth than Sir Bob Mortimer, the king of fun & laughter.

This has got to be one of my favorite clips yet. Bob's delight in telling the story and Richard in tears trying to suppress laughter and the way he says "THREE FIFTY" I've watched this 5 or 6 times now and its just hilarious
3 days ago I got suggested a Bob Mortimer video. Being ameriucan I was not familiar with him. I have spent over 12 hours the last 3 days watching Bob Mortimer videos.

The stories I've heard Bob tell on the Would I Lie To You show are just amazing. He is a true eccentric and seems to have started quite young. Contestants who know about Bob always seem to be up for a weird real life story and it's a sure thing that he'll make everyone crack up.
