Hiya! In stead of frogging and then picking up all those stitches again, you could un-knit the last few rows, like go backwards and undo the stitches. It also takes quite some time, but the chances of dropping stitches is way lower. Or perhaps pick up the stitches from the previous colour before you frog it; insert the needle in the stitches of the last row you were happy with, and then pull out the red, so that you're left with all the stitches on the needle without having to pick them up as they're hanging loose. Always works for me :)
Hi Matthew! I'm totally on team "keep the shawl, frog (or tink) the cabernet." Too much work and too beautiful to rip out the whole thing! Your grandma will love it, and you can always send by mail :) Your sweaters (complete and incomplete) look really great.
Thank you Karen! Great to hear from you! I have a few weeks before I will even be in the same physical location as the shawl, so I have time to think about it! LOL Thanks for watching and hope you and Eggscalibur are both doing well! 😂
Team Tinkback here. It’s beautiful. Try a retrospective lifeline? But the shawl is beautiful, so nearly done and it’s for your Grandmother. Tink 👏🏼 Tink 👏🏼 Tink👏🏼😆
So jealous!! Vancouver Island is one of my favorite places. Love your orange sweater. If the shawl was my work I would find a quite time to rip it back. l
The shawl is beautiful. ❤ I'm team #tinkback on this item. I'm not afraid to frog something that no longer brings me joy, but it sounded like you were loving the shawl as you described it until you got to the last colour. 😉🤔
Thank you! It's true I was enjoying it up to that colour, even though I was feeling it "wasn't for me" in terms of where the finished object should end up. I don't think I'd wear it for it some reason in these colours, but I would totally give it is a gift!
Hi Matthew! Great to see you. Hope you are having the BEST time on the island. Loving your creative endeavours! I was looking through some of the Glittering Snowscapes projects on Ravelry and yeah that last section really does take up the centre stage - so you have to love that final colour for sure. I think the most stitches I've ever picked up after frogging is 250-300 and I just put on a favourite podcast, locked the cats out of the room, put on my headlamp and did it. You probably already know this, but just in case: I always go down at least 2-3 needle sizes to pick up those live stitches. So for this 3.75mm project I would be using 2.5mm to pick up those 400+ stitches if you choose to do so. LOVE your chicken obsession and the Mini Mushroom Trio is so so sweet. I'm on the smallest of the 3 now. Using heavy cardboard for the bases, rice for stuffing and Dollarama pipecleaners. Adorbs! Happy knitting. Thanks for the episode.
Thanks so much Leanne! For these great comments and also for the support over on Ko-Fi, I appreciate it so much!!!! I love the headlamp tip, I can totally see how that would come in handy! I saw your mushroom trio over on Instagram and absolutely love them!!!!! Thanks again!
I'd frog the shawl but that's kind of how I roll. I completely agree with your perspective that ripping back is just part of the art. Of course, if you love everything but the new colour segment, then that's one thing, but if you're even a bit on the fence (wasn't completed in time for your gran and that was your motivator), then just return to the yarn in a new format at a later date.
Thank you! I will confess I feel "a bit on the fence" about almost EVERYTHING, but I absolutely agree with your perspective! So far I have never regretted frogging anything, but I do sometimes regret NOT frogging something!
Jana of the channel Finnish Knitting Stories has knitted those same mushrooms, but she used heavier weight yarns in order to get a larger piece. Very nice result.
Oh, the glittering snowscape, I love that shawl ! ( haven't knit it myself, but it looks gorgeous ! ). If you do like the other colours, just change the cabernet. You don't even have to pick up all the stitches at once, if you have a small tip circular needle; just try to pick up the stitches underneat the cabernet with a smaller needle, and once you have all of them on said needle, just frog the cabernet. The neon looks good, though I can see what you mean with the cable looking like it sprouted from too low in the ribbing. Guess a few rows of plain stockinette will solve that problem. I am curious if the neon alongside the cable, like you did in the first few rows, affect the gauge ? Otherwise it's just optical illusion, but the cable looks more 'stretchy'' ( at least on screen ). Maybe you could just let the one leg of the cable stay in colour, from the ribbing on ( the leg the will make the right leaning cross over ) ? The mushrooms look cute ! You could also save them for gift knitting season, and work on a small mushroom collection ? ( Stoneknits has a lovely mushroom sock pattern, for instance ).
Thank you for the tip, I hadn't considered that! It's still hundreds of stitches but yes... it might be worth it! The cable uses a short row technique to make it stick out so far! And the stitches stay on the cable needle until the wrong side row... it's a little different from other cables for sure! Thanks for the response and all the great ideas! 🧚♂️
I really want to make a Glittering Snowscape, but haven't gotten to it yet. My question is how much do you like the rest of the colors? If you love them, then just pull out the last one. But if you are wavering overall then pull the whole thing out till you find the right yarn.
Matthew, why don't you just leave that narrow stripe of the Cabernet color in the shawl and change to a different color to finish that last band of the shawl? That way the Cabernet stripe won't be that noticeable (it looks very narrow at this point), and no tedious tinking to worry about.
Hi! I just found your channel this afternoon and I enjoyed it. I was curious do you save your yarn clippings from your projects? You can use those as stuffing. Also, of they are natural fibers they can be combed on and blended with virgin wool and such to be reused in future projects if you happen to spin yarn or have a friend that can spin it for you. When I have an itch to do amigurumi I usually have enough clippings saved that I can use to stuff my items. I subbed and look forward to more content. I crochet, knit and sew which I guess are my contributions to the fiber world and I'm more of a naturalist using sustainable fibers.
Yay, I'm so happy you found me! I do save yarn scraps and clippings, and have used them to stuff, but I don't usually have enough. I like to use natural fibres whenever I can! So far I am knitting only but I want to increase my crochet skills, and I would LOVE to start sewing!

Love the shawl. And if you really have to only frog the last color. Really excited for the neon sweater. And I can't get enough support chickens. ❤😊
Thank you! This is so nice to hear, I'm glad!

Thank you! I hadn't thought about this tinkback option! It's intriguing...
I absolutely adore that orange top you have on it looks fabulous on you
Thanks so much! It's the Earth and Air by James N Watts if you are ever interested in the pattern!

Thanks so much! Yes I have one week left here, it has been incredible!

Thank you! You are the second person to say this! I will have to give it some real thought, for sure.

Just change the Cabernet!!!
Thank you!
Just finish it
Thanks! No one else has said this, so I really appreciate the perspective.
