I was able to make a Yamaha TTR 230 street legal in KY. It was relatively easy. Mostly because of a DMV clerk who was eager to help. I will say that most clerks were not familiar with the process. Thankfully, the clerk that I approached was helpful. Local sheriff dept had no problem recommending the bike for a street license after inspection. The requirements were Headlight (HIGH and low beam), horn, brake light (Front and rear), and turn signals. I pieced it all together with separate components and built a wire harness. Everything except the headlight ran on a 12V 5000mah Lipo battery. The stator was plenty for the Polisport headlight. I do not remember the Sheriff dept checking my Kenda K270s for DOT approval. Insuring the bike with liability was a non issue. The DMV used a generic bill of sale signed by myself and the previous owner as a means of assessing value for tax purposes. The only issue on the DMV side was a non-existent odometer. After some trial and error, the clerk noted "Not actual mileage" in the Title field for Odometer, and the state accepted it. They then issued my plate and I received a title in the mail about 2 weeks later. Fun fun fun.
Thanks Tanner! Would love to hear more detail on this someday! Here in NJ is a pain in the a** to be legal. And the paper work don't get me started! Might do a Vermont Registration someday....
Here in Utah the bike needs to have the Headlight(low/high), turn signals, horn and break light and it needs to pass an inspection and can be registered as a street legal bike.
I had to convert my 2019 450X with all the road legal stuff and had to bring it to an inspection station, were they approved it and gave me a letter that I gave to the BMV and the titled it. Bought the bike brand new and might have been the first to road register the new Gen 450X in Maine. Only added thing Maine required was a chain guard on the swing arm. I only use it for the inspection and take it off the rest of the time.
I have an XR400R made street legal. I bought the bike with a street title already, but I am in the process of all the wiring and such. I have all the parts, (blinkers, stator, battery, wiring, etc.) I just need to install it all. I bought switchback running light/ blinkers and mounted the on the hand guards. The blinkers are sequential and sweep though from inside to outside and do not need a flasher relay. I also bought a key switch that has, OFF/RUN/RUN+LIGHTS so that I have the option to put all accessory lights on a separate curcuit. I bought wiring that has multiple wires encased in a coating (think phone cord) so that it's nice, neat, and organized. Here in Michigan, we don't need blinkers, but I want them. I also got a flashing brake light and a LED strip brake light. I want to be seen.
Maine anything under 300cc is title exempt, and can reg for street use with just a bill of sale and insurance.. of course for Inspection you need all the usual, but who cares about inspections stickers
Nevada is likely one of the easiest to do. 1st your bike must be designated "for offroad use only" from the factory. Usually stamped in the frame or on a permanent label. You need lights, horn, mirrors & DOT tires. Only one form is needed, a VP-254 which has 3 sections. Section 1 filled out by dealer or repair shop inspecting your conversion equipment, section 2 filled out by DMV inspector. Section 3 you fill out your name, address, sign & date. You surrender your title or,MSO/MCO, dealers report of sale,...ect. and are issued a title designating the bike as "reconstructed." Thats it.
I've done this for years. Had multiple different makes and models all road legal. My first bike was a 2004 CRF 250x. Also, they do not come with title, they come with a MSO that you file with your DMV for a title issuance.
Made a CRF250X legal in WI. South Dakota issued me plate, but wouldn’t issue me a title. Back in 2005 dirtbikes weren’t titled in WI and SD wouldn’t accept my DNR registration, which trumps titles in WI. Having just the plate was fine. Had zero issues in the three years I owned it.
I went through the process of getting a CRF250RX made street legal in TX. I also used the Tusk kit. For TX, you must have both a high and low beam. And you must also have a brake light switch for both the front and rear brakes. Blinkers aren't required in TX and I used the circuit for the blinkers for either the high beam or the extra brake, but I can't remember which. I don't think it was possible to have both beams, both brakes, and blinkers with the Tusk kit as is. I bought a keyed switch that I was hoping we could tie in to have some more security for the bike. We followed the instructions and all but it kept blowing the bike's main fuse. So the key only turns on the system to the dual sport kit, the lights and horn and all that. At some point I will address that issue and make the bike so that it requires a key to run. For now, it's doing what I need it to do, letting me connect trails. The headlight I got was an Amazon cheapy and it's worth no more than I paid for it. But I won't be riding after sundown, so that's okay too. If I ever do decide to ride it after hours, I might get a headlight mask for a CRF450L and then the Baja Designs kit for that bike.
In Texas you can also tag on off road vehicle so you can ride the county roads and the FM roads not any Hwy. You get a yellow license plate and you can go 25 miles radius of the registered address. All you have to have is proof of ownership. I did this for my 4 wheeler and it only cost around $20. My dirt bike came with a street legal kit.

I converted two dirt bikes to street legal here in Indiana. Then Indiana changed the law and made it illegal to do so. No more conversion from "off road" to "motorcycle". Sucks but true. I'm not sure even licensing in another state and then trying to title it in Indiana will work.
The BMV down in Delaware on 23 told me that they wanted actual printed photographs of the equipment I had added to the bike to make it street legal. Making a KTM 250 XC-F street legal.

I’ve always wanted to ride a dirt bike as a commuter, 110 miles a week. I haven’t done it because I’m unsure about the servicing. How often would you drop the oil, if the bike is having an easy life on road? 40 hr servicing would work out around 1000 miles for the amount of time it takes to get to work.

Light, horn, brake lights and a mirror. Probably need hi and low beam but the reality is chances of getting checked for that is nil. Almost sure that you don't need turn signals. Can't say 100% but I'd bet $100 you don't.

I will mention you must be a resident or have a business in TN. Also do a NICB vin check too see if it's hot or been titled before. If it's hot don't try it you will get charged for receiving stolen property, if it's been titled better hope you got it from the person the titles names in. I'd you have the extra $ dirt legal will do it for you, they wanted to charge $700 to do this for my 06 ttr230
Hello everybody, I am looking to get a dirt bike or a pit bike and I’m 12 and I was wondering if I make the bike street legal can I legally ride it? Cs I see people with out licenses ride bike over 50cc and I don’t know how
If the objective to convert to street legal is to have: a headlight, tail light, brake light, license plate holder, license plate light, horn, and one rear view mirror, then I don't understand why state DMVs make life so hard on the public by mandating a 12 Volt battery, which requires a device to charge the battery. They need to get with the times and not enforce the old technology on us. Everything for a dirt bike conversion to street legal can be copied from cyclists. They instal rechargeable lithium battery powered head light, tail light, and a horn which are very loud, actually louder than some mopeds or street legal motorcycles. Same goes for their lights that are very bright, brighter than car head lights and they last for hours. For some reason local DMVs enjoy inflecting hardship on people. And that I find very frustrating. I have a rechargeable lithium powered head light and tail light on my bicycle and they are brighter than motorcycle lights. I also have a rechargeable lithium powered horn which is louder than a motorcycle horn. Both the horn and head light are mounted on the handlebar for easy access. I also have a mirror mounted on the handlebar. The brake light can also be powered by lithium powered battery, it only requires a wire to be connected to one or both brakes.
Oh and these people around here are riding 2 strokes on the streets with no helmets, no plates, no shits to give and the cops don't do anything...Welcome to the wild Midwest!

@Ken Farnsworth Only one DMV in the state to perform the inspection and you need a M/C license to do so. They just want all of your money. Not worth all the hassle with only 2 legal riding areas in the state.
@@wizzy69 If you do Netra event you will be able to ride more places
Dude, get the Beta street legal. It was super easy for me to get mine road legal. A 300cc two stroke turns heads on the road!
Riding my 300 xc-w on the street, people always double take haha.
A Yamaha dealer here in Missouri said he knew tons of guys ith WR 450s that are street legal...Here in Missouri as far as I can tell from reading the moto laws is out need a horn, mirror, headlight, and tail light...pass the inspection that it all works and you're good...and according to a friend of mine they didn't even care about the tires..
thank you for the video I found it very helpful
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for stopping by!
Does the Honda CRF250F have a lighting coil and/or plug in - in the stock wiring harness?
Can you link where you got the Tusk hand guards and anything related for your setup? I didn't see it in the description. I have the 2020 f
I converted two dirt bikes to street legal here in Indiana. Then Indiana changed the law and made it illegal to do so. No more conversion from "off road" to "motorcycle". Sucks but true. I'm not sure even licensing in another state and then trying to title it in Indiana will work.
Ah I haven't heard this. That's interesting, I hope you can find some loop hole to make it work 👍🏻
Dot should loosen strictness here in America when lots of country's allow dirt bikes on the road without jumping through hoops.
The BMV down in Delaware on 23 told me that they wanted actual printed photographs of the equipment I had added to the bike to make it street legal. Making a KTM 250 XC-F street legal.
Which handguard did yall use? I see the turn signal link but not the handguard
Thanks for the how-to on making your dirt bike street legal.
A strictly dirt bike sounds like a lot of fun.
I may get one.
In the mean time, my little Honda CRF300 Rally does the job, on road or off road.
I guess I’m not QUITE as aggressive a rider as you are.
Happy Trails!
The Honda Rally is a great bike! As long as your having fun, doesn't matter what you're riding, so glad to hear you're getting out there!
I always had a headlight and tail lights on my dirt bike!! and my license plate Sazz catch me if you can😉🚔✌🏼👋🏻👋🏻
Have you changed the exhaust too..?
Did your light come with a wiring harness? Mine has a plug but didn’t come with a harness
I had to cut the plug off and splice it.
Okay, we’ll I’ve got the tusk enduro kit too waiting to
Be wired, what did you wire your black and White wire from the plug to?
I live in Ohio and this is amazing news!
In Arizona anything goes. Easy to get a bike street legal. My Xr600r takes me everywhere....unless it's deep sand😄
"I just so happen to live in the butthole of America, that is Ohio."
Damn it, so do I. This is going to be annoying aint it.
"And thankfully, they make this process super easy."
Wait really? Ohio has an upside?
so i’m confused. if tanner connected the white and blue wire into both red wires for the “on/off” switch..where/how did he connect the squadron headlight into? did he splice it?
Yeah but I’m pretty sure california doesn’t allow this because I also wanted to do the same thing with a 250f and searched it up and it said it wasn’t allowed
I'm looking into picking up a 1999 KLX300R and was looking into making it street legal. My line of thought though is I like clean. But, I would of tied the whole system to the kill switch
in your video you said all bikes has came with a title since the 90s but ive only ever got a certificate of origin for a vehicle. could someone tell me if this is the same thing or as close as it gets to a title. and has anyone in the comments got or know how to get a bike legal in the state of NC?
You cannot do that where I am from, BC Canada. used to be able too . not anymore
A mirror is required in WA state to plate a dirt bike. What if any, mirror did you go with? Thanks
Kansas wont street legal bikes factory titled as "offroad use." Out of state title is the only way that im aware of.
I have ridden my 1993 kx250 two stroke from Dalton Gardens, ID to downtown Coeur D’Alene, which is a ten to fifteen minute drive many times.Have passed sheriff’s and police. Never had any issues with them. Don’t ride stupid, on the sidewalk, no lane splitting, and no riding on the freeway. Hell if you’re 18 or older you don’t even need a helmet as they recognize your an adult and you’re responsible for your actions.
Michigan is just like Ohio I did it to a 2000 husky 610 te
yo u just gave a an idea now if I get caught riding a none street legal pit bike/dirt bike I can say I’m riding to the trails
hi tanner is the tusk kit universal? on rocky mtn it asks me to put in my bike 2024 crf250f and the kit with the blinkers comes up but when i look up the kit with the handgaurd blinkers it says only fits the 450x
Would this kit work on a Trailmaster T27?
Does the crf need the stator rewound to run a headlight and dualsport kit? Anyone know?? I can’t seem to find help anywhere
Not at all, I’ve never had an issue.
@@AdventureDaily thank you! So are they both running off the battery or just the headlight? Sorry that’s my last question. ☺️. Love your content by the way keep it up.
I got a 2021 125cc Coolster pit bike with a 250cc Kawasaki engine. What would I use for the vehicle filter on the website to get the right street legal kit?
Arkansas?
I love your videos!
What if you get the dirt bike from Amazon? Do they come with a title? Or I have to go to dmv or sum and get it?
Do not buy a motorcycle off of Amazon, just buy a used legitimate motorcycle... you don't want that Chinese crap that's going to break in 10hrs of riding.
If I called the title agency here in Mississippi they still probably wouldn’t know lol I went to a gun store and asked them what all I had to do here to carry legally and I asked what all I had to do, if anything to sell some gun I have since I’ve only been here a few years and they said they didn’t know to both of those questions and the same has been the case for many other places here. I mean if you go to a store and ask them if they have any more of something they will straight up just say no and then I’ll say well The app says you have five more in stock, but I don’t see any over there, then they’ll get up and go look and find it lol. it’s near impossible to get anyone here to do anything. Dang I just went on another rant lol
Another great video Tanner!
Even ol Jakethegardensnake brought you and your trusty 250F up the other day.
100,000 subs here we come! 💪🏽
How does the 250f preform on the road with the knobbies? Great video!
Dirt legal USA does the whole states loopholes.
UK go for v55/4 V55/5 write Enduro exempt for lower seat height under 940mm V55/5 brand new receipt of ownership from seller to buyer and as he's said tax and registration is the V55/4-5 and MOT once you've added lights smart taillight indicator horn all-in-one alarm RC remote straps turn takeoffs as alarm 10 m will wake me up garden shed.
Don't forget the $250 1000-3000 mile a year (, Amount of mileage you can use on road doesn't have a tachymeter so UK can blag my mileage) cheapest insurance lowest price new L Rider will also need to take a CBT course UK £120 +/- learner rider for 2 yrs necessary before taking test
Sorry bro struggling to understand that. I'm in need of a value for money road legal dirt bike here in the UK and was hoping to get some advice from you. Currently booked my CBT.

Any dirt bike UK months for paperwork but can be done.
TH-cam V55/4 will explain or brand new V55/5 receipt/write your own if bought without receipt.
Add Enduro exempt to V55 form due to old bullshit bioshock infinite bull 💩930mm 36+ inch seat height if turning unworthy pitbike dirtbike etc
To register for road legal tax and registration plates is now easier/possible.
17 front 14 rear at 31 inch is fine for me 30 inch INSIDE leg.
Any pitbike unworthy of the road will pass MOT with Smart taillight indicator horns (For a bicycle but L brackets suffice easy DIY)
Place L brackets between 2 half -0- top and bottom bicycle pole bracket.
Which cheap "Motorcycle licence plate flip brackets"
2 new drill slits hole Will fit between the -0- bracket with the L on the outside upside down bolted to mudguard.
Clip off to recharge in 2 3 hrs large enough battery 🔋
Smart taillight AliExpress
MOT pass with bontrager x 2 another form.
What engine size do you need
Drz for the win.
Arizona is stupid simple. You can street an old Big Red 3 wheeler! The DMV or even private DMV's never even look at the bike. Its up to you to make sure you're legal. Light, horn, brake lights and a mirror. Probably need hi and low beam but the reality is chances of getting checked for that is nil. Almost sure that you don't need turn signals. Can't say 100% but I'd bet $100 you don't.
Anyone have any clue how to make one street legal in Tennessee or if it’s possible?
I live in TN and it's possible through dmv. They might or might not issue a ohv or non ohv title long as you have notarized BoS it's not stolen and no liens and be older than 9yrs and have fair market value less than $3k I believe. You need head/tail light doesn't have to have high and low a horn front/rear brakes no signals or brake light required. After you've added those you can get it converted to street legal and tagged.
What the cost come in at?
Can I come by and have you help me make my CRF230F street legal? Lol
Hello everybody, I am looking to get a dirt bike or a pit bike and I’m 12 and I was wondering if I make the bike street legal can I legally ride it? Cs I see people with out licenses ride bike over 50cc and I don’t know how
What if I don’t have a title because I am still buying it ?
What about Florida? Can I make it legal here?
Oh and these people around here are riding 2 strokes on the streets with no helmets, no plates, no shits to give and the cops don't do anything...Welcome to the wild Midwest!
Do you need a motorcycle license to operate a dirt bike on street roads

Ohio is pretty sweet though. Try that in a different state
Those tiny turn signal lights and brake light will get you killed.
What about Scotland
Canada is a no go for that stuff
Is there anybody from Georgia that has converted their dirtbike to a street bike?
Sounds like an NFA Item with all that crap you listed off.
What does clap or clapped mean?!
Urban Dictionary: "Clapped" ; used to call things broken, damaged or ugly
Can a kid do this
Red wire power side goes to black wire from compact controller white wire from compact controller goes too male side of red wire from tusk harness an white from light black negative from light ties into turn signal negative
Me living in Cali😭😭😭
Can you legally ride dirt bike next to the road? Like on the grass n shit
Can't I buy a street legal bike from a reputable dealer?
Sure you can.
@@AdventureDaily Thanks.... I was beginning to doubt my reality for a moment!
