In this video I go over the most common source for oil leaks on the Ford 6.0L Powerstroke.

I know this is a really old video but if you do this make sure your lower CAC boot clamp bolt is angled so it's nowhere close to your AC hard line. I goofed up when I reinstalled mine and it took about a year but that clamp bolt rubbed through the aluminum hard line for the AC. In the middle of summer of course.

I freaked out when I saw oil in the tube. Glad you mentioned that the turbo passes a bit of oil. I was thinking the seal may be going. ?? I will monitor the situation. I don't experience oil loss or smoke so that's good. Thanks for the demos. "Great job"

I have almost identically oil build up as you showed in this video minute 2:30. I checked the elbow and has the cracks. Replacements should be coming in today. I don’t notice any other spot where oil is leaking but my truck won’t start when hot and long cranks when cold. Dumb question but will this cause that to happen or is it a safe bet that I need to clean/replace IPR or find where o-ring may be leaking? Whether it be from standpipe, dummy plug, injector.

Would bad cac boots make the truck sound like a vacuum when taking off from a stop? I've noticed it does it when it's hot out lately

Update..........fixed the oil problem. Re-route the crankcase ventilation tube from the turbo boot inlet to the outside and plug the hole. There is an amazing amount of oil vapor drawn in through the turbo. Your silicone boots will slip off the tubes and coat the inside. What a mess. Don't plug off the vent at the valve cover. Run a pipe down to the ground to expel pressure. Another Ford fail.

I have a pretty severe leak on my 04 and it looks like the same exact spot as this. I am seeing 5 or so dime size drips in 10 minutes of sitting off. How extreme can these leaks get?
Was the leak caused by the boot? I think I have the same leak! Small drips first, bigger puddle over night

Hello sir an everybody really need your help,iv found a big crack on mine upper boot hose...you think because of that i loose power? My peddle goes down an no acceleration..can that crack boots cause that?

All that oil is accumulate from the sucking the vapor out of the crankcase on top of the driver side valve cover. I did a bypass and now she's clean and dry.
Mine flutters after a hard accel on the decel. Is that a sticking Turbo?

Eric Blunk No nothing massive unless it fully splits then all the oil carryover will come out as you drive.

Under boost is almost always the turbo itself sticking. Does yours flutter after a hard accel on the decel ever?
Excellent tutorial! I am doing the same thing on my 06 but I am using Mishimoto parts due to Ford not having the upper boot until January. I did make sure that they do have the ridge on the inside to mate up with the tube, I also watched a pressure test video by Mishimoto that shows there's can take more pressure.
If I have a bunch of cracks in my upper boot and have oil coming out will that cause me to have no boost? I hit a big pothole and lost all boost iv checked everything and all I found was this elbo has cracks in it

Im looking at an 06 6.0 with 218,000 miles. I noticed the oil on the back side of both heads and on the bottom of bellhousing. Going to look and see if this cac tube is the culprit. Its bulletproofed and deleted, but i smelles the antifreeze and it has a diesel odor to it, dealer said they installed a new oil cooler and flushed the coolant system and the flush they used is why it smells like diesel.🤔 Does the flush actually create they odor, or would he more likely be cracked injector cup?

Do smoke test produce enough pressure to test for leaks on this charge air system. Just regulate my psi to 25psi?

How can you get oil in there is supposed to be a vitamin system? I too the crankcase ventilation and have it plug at the turbo donut should be dry. But still getting oil there and now it’s blowing inside the intake.

Just looked at mine and I can put a finger in my upper boot. Now the problem is all the Ford boots are on backorder.
I got a 2006 6.0 and I replaced the boots and it keeps blowing it off near the turbo and at 90 a boot it's starting to cost me can you help

My cac boots a ready to be changed. They look the same as this truck. Must be minimal oil coming out cuz i dont have to add a drop between changes. I run rotella t6 syn 5w40. How many miles would you run berween changes. Previous owner lost the manual.
3000 miles between changes as recommended to keep oil as clean as possibly while still getting use out of the life of the oil.
How much oil is typical? If you can smell it In the exhaust I would assume that is too much correct?
Driving at 55mph , heard load boom, like shotgun under hood, lost power,suspect boost, or turbo! How do I know if it is from turbo or the hose in these video? 2004 6.0 ?

I have a 350 Powerstroke Ford 2005 I change the fuel filters started back up and now I'm here a cranking noise or a loud tapping noise around the top of the engine anybody help me on that

A lot of good information I actually have a low boost code po 299 and i think its coming from the CAC boots have a crack in them I also have that oil leak dripping around the bottom of the transmission hopefully this will fix both problems
It can be bad enough it will cause a p0299, you might as well fix the tubes rest pcm and retest since you know the boots are bad anyway.
haha good one dude! i would be thinking turbo feed tube or drain tube! or a leak i have yet to have to fix, bed plate! done an oil pan in chassie, thats fun! hahaha tight but doable!

You are an awesome diesel mechanic. On my 6.0 I have oil under the turbo. Truck starts, but no power. Unplugged the vgt solenoid and sounds better. Would the oil return for the turbo give those symptoms?

I have a 04 fird f250 and it has the same leak. Only leaks when you have driven it and let it sit.

+Devon McCormick A hot engine, turned off then spray foaming engine degreaser let it do its thing then high pressure garden hose is the best to clean the components and engine valley. I like to blow dry it clean with compressed air then let it run to dry out the rest then proceed with component replacement like normal once it cools.
S100, I use it on my motorcycles, spray, let sit and hose off. Best cleaner I have found.

I know this is an old post but I suspect I have bad boots. Will you maintain boost pressure even with a crack in the boot?
If it’s only surface cracks no big deal if the boot is slit then you will lose boost.
If that much oil blows out of the cracks in the hose onto the motor, how much oil do you think is blowing through the inter-cooler? Have you ever cleaned your inter-cooler. I replaced my boots, but I am wondering about what is inside my 04 6.0 l inter-cooler. Could it be restricting air flow/power?
No I just work on the customer vehicles. The oil carryover is normal and it comes through the other side no plugging is suspect.
I was thinking the same thing, so I installed a catch can and re routed the crank case hose to it, then blocked off the intake port.

Charge air cooler in Ford lingo or also known as an intercooler.

@@FordTechMakuloco thanks for the tips i cleaned out the EGR valve then added additive in the fuel but then it would just crank and wouldn't start. after further investigation and a few meltdowns i noticed the FICM Fuel Injection Control Module cables bracket was broken and they had disconnected so i plug them back in and zip tied it. guess it worked lol
