One of my favorite Avs narratives: Bo Byram who thought he might never play again just a few months ago, hoisting the cup, leading everyone in plus/minus, and getting that sweet assist on the MacKinnon goal. Must feel good. And hey, he just turned 21 😉

He was mostly the D Partner to EJ. Both had the same issues and worry. The Condor, as well as the rest of the Team, really looked out for Bo like older Brothers until Bo could reassert his game. Hopefully a bright future for the kid. Storybook shit for sure💪🏻💪🏻

The story of this game, to me, is Tampa's "championship composure" breaking down completely. I don't believe karma is a thing, but if it were, the team that deserved to win won.
Tampa was complaining to the refs after every thing that went against them. Jon Cooper was given free time after each goal to look it over and "decide" not to challenge, allowing him to negate any momentum. Pat Maroon was jawing to the refs after the Avs had won the game.
They played like losers, and they lost.

I always disagree with the go into a shell strategy in that scenario. Dance with the girl that brought you, play the game you're comfortable and confident playing. Play to win and never ever play to not lose.
edit to add: Makar, MacKinnon, and Landy are getting a lot of the headlines but the veterans further down the roster are such great stories. Helm, Cogs, Nichuskin, EJ, Jack Johnson. A team that was just so easy to cheer for and celebrate. Thanks for another great year Steve.

Don't forget about Devon Toews. The Avs were 4 and 9 or so when he was out of the lineup. He is one of the unsung hero's of the season. And Manson was great as well. Naz and EJ were out last year - I wonder if that would have made a difference against Vegas, I can't help but think it would have, especially EJ as we were lacking size last season in the playoffs.

None of us deny that, but it doesn’t help when there’s as blatant of a missed call as that game 4 OT miss. Not to mention multiple other missed calls the rest of the series. A lot more so on the Avs than Tampa although both got away with shit. For us it’s more the unbelievably puck luck Colorado had the last 3 games. I mean 4 of their 6 goals were pure puck luck and it’s ridiculous. Certainly fair play to the Avs though they outplayed Tampa and deserved to win because of that, but it hurts knowing Tampa braved the storm and if it wasn’t for all of that puck luck, they would’ve won 4 straight after game 2. Considering how banged up they were and how much more fresh Colorado was and how much harder Tampa’s path to get there was, I can’t be more proud of them for persevering and still almost coming out with the W and the 3 peat. Fair play to Colorado though, the right team won, and I can’t be any more proud of Tampa’s will and determination and sacrifice to get the 3 peat despite everything that was against them. I got to see back to back cups and them be 2 wins away from a third and if not for puck luck, they would’ve won their third despite being much more tired and banged up than Colorado and being outplayed in almost every period this series except for a handful. I’m just excited for the next few years to see if Tampa can solve their cap problem and make some insane signings like they have been the last 10 years and turn it around and continue being a serious contender again. This team has been so dominant since 2015 and I’m ok with this loss no matter how close they were to winning it

Kudos to the Avs. Their forecheck was so constant that it often looked like the DID have an extra man. I couldn't believe Vegas beat them last year. I respect the Bolts but the 'soccer dive' penalty and the "Choo choo train" hold on AM"s sweater took that down a notch or two. The Avs are fast and relentless and a pleasure to watch. 2 takes from all of this. 1)Leafs could have played with either team. Not saying the would've won but they could've competed. 2)You can get there with a good goalie. Stud goalies are nice and rare but with the dedication to their system, all they needed was a decent goalie.

As a Tampa fan I started going to their games back in the early 2000's and was at game 7 in 2004 to watch them win the Stanley Cup at home. Best sports experience of my life of course. It's been great being a Tampa fan, we've been lucky for sure. The team has done a great job to be pretty entertaining all these years. Since 2010 they've been to the playoffs 9 times, to the Conference Finals 7 times, to the Stanley Cup Finals 4 times, and wont he Stanley Cup 2 times. They have the most playoff wins in that time period. It's crazy.

Sorry, tangent, but, I was just reflecting on this past season, and the one before...
What is it with Sportsnet / Hockey Night in Canada and their ridiculous sponsorships? Last season, it was the disgraced Huawei cellphone company from Big China, who have been thrown out of most Western countries, let alone are they getting sponsorship deals! (While Huawei's SVP of North American Marketing was being HELD IN JAIL in Vancouver, on deportation to USA for charges of espionage!) And this season, Sportsnet bounces back with pathetic gambling sites (know your limit? play within it? Yeah... like ALL the people who lose their life's savings every day of the year on sports gambling addictions...) What a healthy, wholesome sponsorship! (AGAIN... not). While I know Chinese Communist Party controlled cell-phones services to mine personal data, and sports gambling, are both big money, so they can theoretically BUY THEIR WAY into markets... But could Sportsnet and HNIC show JUST A LITTLE BIT of moral dignity and decency, and consider where their sponsorship money is coming from? I live in Taiwan, R.O.C. (Little China; NOT associated in ANY way to The P.R.C. - Big China), and I had to sit through promotion after promotion of Huawei as I tried to watch NHL hockey, while The CCP continue to threaten an INVASION of Taiwan, on almost a daily basis. It made me sick. And now, this season, LITERALLY INTERMISSION SEGMENTS devoted to online gambling sites!! Jeez... How bloody low can they get. May as well just bring The Mob on as Official Sponsors. Again, just disgusting. (And of course, more than a couple of online gambling sites were competing overall in the NHL commercials air-time for their services... So, so pathetic.)

Regarding Dynasties: NHL and Hockey Hall of Fame both recognize the Edmonton Oilers as an official Dynasty. THG says that their definition is 3 wins in 4 years but I'm struggling to confirm that. It's also worth noting that the OIttawa Senators of the 1920s, the Detroit Redwings of the 1950s and the Canadiens of the 1960s (not to be confused with the one in the 70s) are recognized as Dynasties with none holding 3 consecutive but all meeting the 3 in 4 definition.
