Looks like it wasn't until the recent release of Pink Venom and their VMAs performance did many ppl in the West start to notice Blackpink, and get blown away by how good and talented these girls are. Yet the fact is, I instantly became a Blink after I listened to their "Playing with fire" on Inkegayo back in 2017 (or 2016?), because my gut feelings told me they are SO different from any other Kpop female groups I have ever seen over the years, be they Girls Generation, T-ara, WonderGirls, and all the way back to SES, BabyVox and FinKL. BP is simply one of a kind, whose swag and style are just unparalleled

Acoustic version of Whistle is a completely different song (vibe, instrumental...), in a completely different language (japanese, not korean) and performed completely different (no dance choreography) than the regular Whistle as seen in the music video. Would be worth checking out a live version of the "real" Whistle (as seen in the music video) not only the Acoustic version.
This is the only song they have used green screen in, the sitting on the Earth part. They almost didn't release this song because of the country flair and it felt so empty. Whistling done by Jisoo Whistle is really chill while their other debut song Boombayah is a club song. I highly recommend watching An Unhelpful Guide to Blackpink 2019 to get to know more of their personalities.

If you as big as Blackpink, there will be always backlash from people unhappy with what you're releasing or from trolls that get attracted because of the popularity. Back in 2020 "How You Like That" got bashed because it was "to similar" to previous title tracks, "Lovesick girls" just months later got bashed because it was "to different" compared to previous title tracks. If they would have gone for the "big drop" in "Pink Venom" there would equally much complaining, as with the "Antidrop" just for the opposite reason. Its just the way the internet works, sadly.

Just started binging your reactions, and I'd love to see you react to Blackpink's "Stay" -- I love your format of doing a music video then a live performance. If I remember correctly from the documentary, Jennie wrote parts of "Stay" and at times she gets emotional during live performances because it reminds her of all the friends she lost while she, Jisoo, Rosie and Lisa were in the training program since she trained for so long and had to see so many fellow trainees exit the program (or rather, asked to exit more often tha not, I believe). I think you might like it since it's so different from almost all their songs imo. Had to sub and join the Patreon!!
