    I’ve had many bikes come and go and I just ride em, but my 04 is gas and always will be my keeper. It gets all the good stuff, Ohlins suspension, full arrow system, oversized radiator and of that kind of stuff. I so love how well this model turns in.

    I have owned my 2006 R1 for 5 months now , and I have to say its AMAZING. its quite easy to handle for a liter bike , its smooth on lower revs and beast when u go over 6k, it will wheelie without using the clutch if u accelerate too hard. Its faster than pretty much anything else on the roads. Have to be super careful on the roads with speed cameras , as its pretty much impossible to stick to speed limits , unless you are some kind of super monk who can channel its inner granny and be stuck behind everyone else ... Over all awesome bike 10/10, dont really need fuel gauge , I always reset my trip counter when I fill up and its enough for about 110 miles until light comes up.

      Got the Yamaha Blue 2006 version of it, what a classy bike it is and I can definitely one hundred percent agree with you here.
      It's quite the looker as well, I find myself staring at it just as much as the random people that circle around the bike when it's parked somewhere, what a machine.
      When it comes to handling, I got this right after I passed my full license - my main bike before being an RS4 125 Aprilia 2015 - and I have to say that I addapted scarily quick to the new one, still have the Aprilia which is really fun to ride but it reminds me to be humble when I jump back on the R1.
      Cheers!

    Great video! That actual Fortuna R1 belonged to a friend of mine and he toured a lot of Europe on it with me always playing catch-up on an RF900, made my bike look like it was standing still! Wonderful bike! Great review! 😁😁😁

    Top video mate. Have to say that as good as the new R1 is. The original R1 is the best. As most of us know every new model removes a little from the original.

    I own 2004 R1, fast and stable bike. Downsides: generator rotor failures(rotor magnets tend to fall off and contact with stator and then nightmare starts), prone to intake and exhaust valves dropping to cylinder (dont overrev it , max 11000rpm, if you want to last check valve clearances every 20000km, change oil and filter every 4000km), clutch basket torsion damper spring shortens quickly (wheelies, no slipper clutch) which results in clutch rattling sound, problems with chain tensioner, front brake master cylinder failures, primary TPS recall. If you dont know 2007-2008 R1 crankshaft and FZ8 crankshaft and clutch basket fits into 04-06 R1 , conrods from 2009 R1 also fits.

      Hi there, I’m getting clutch rattle on my 04. Replaced clutch plates and basket but still have the noise on idle till around 1700rpm. The damper spring you mention is this a single spring or all the springs on the back of the clutch basket assembly?
      Thanks charlie

    • @jj-yw1or
      @jj-yw1or 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CharlieMoto182 It's coil springs on the back/inside of the clutch basket.Even when it's new, there is a little slack between them and cluch basket case. There is always a little noise from clutch basket. There is a lack of clutch assembly lubrication on these R1-s, 98-03 have the same problems because the primary drive gearbox shaft is to high (Yamaha did this to shorten the engine and allow longer swingarm with short wheelbase). Did you replaced steel and wear plates. Check the clutch basket needle bearing and oil pump drive chain. You could check cam chain tensioner and chain guides as well because these components may also cause rattling sound. Chain tensioner tends to broke also, Yamaha repaced it with redesign model with new cataloque number.

      @@jj-yw1or hi JJ thanks for the reply. I’ve replaced the clutch basket with 2 different second hand ones. Both clutch baskets had loose springs at the back but then I thought why would the noise go with the clutch pulled in, if the clutch basket is turning constantly with the crankshaft? I have ordered a manual cam chain tensioner which is hopefully coming next week. I replaced both steel and friction plates with updated EBC ones and clutch pack springs. There is a video on TH-cam with my exact noise which I will try send you a link too. I’ve been trying to fix the problem coming on 3 months now and will endless forums I still can’t find the problem.

      @@CharlieMoto182 Clutch basket springs, cam chain tensioner and guides, oil pump drive chain, conrod bearings, i dont think that enything else could cause this kind of rattling noise. These bikes have some years on their shoulders and lack of proper maintenance, wheelies, track days etc..
