One of my teammates had his shoe taken off shortly after the starting line at states and came in second, he lost to my other teammate, who incidentally was the one who took off his shoe. Definitely wasn't comparable to today's second placer, third was most of a minute behind them two.
@@RA-lu6mb Oh I definitely agree, he definitely could have positioned himself better earlier on in the race. Love when you cover races like this. I have an alumni that ran the NAIA and managed to make all American so i would love to see a video covering the NAIA.
Ngl it’s actually kinda crazy how my guy ran the second half of the race without a shoe and somehow got second place. He definitely would’ve won if it wasn’t for that.
It’s hard to tell if the pacing was smart or stupid without a grade analysis showing if they are going up or downhill. From the footage it looks almost all uphill.
I was stationed at Ft. Drum (Norther NY). Running under 20 is brutal and in the Negatives absolutely sucked... BUT, I tended to love going on our 6+ mile runs when it wasn't too high above freezing. 35-40 was a goldilocks zone for me. 🤔🤷♂️🤘
Wild to not acknowledge that beyond running half the race without his left shoe, Habtom Samuel was badly spiked on both his Achilles and had to be on crutches after the race. All this disadvantage for him to only finish 1.5 seconds behind the leader... yeah. I think we know who the real winner was here lol Can't wait to see where this guy goes!
Just wish the women could run a 10K instead of a 6K. I was at the meet though, was really awesome. It was 35 degrees but it didn't feel that cold because there wasn't any wind. 35 degrees is also not that bad for someone like myself who's lived in Wisconsin his entire life.
10km cross country in 28 minutes!!! For sure he can do 27 and maybe low 27minutes too, on the track or roads! Remember 27:40 used to be the world record. So, standards have improved astoundingly since 1980's.
Yes - this guy deserves the tough guy no quit no matter what award - AWESOME : Habtom Samuel from New Mexico and his missing shoe: shoe on around @4:42 1.1 K (3:09)......@5:19 at 3.2 K (9:20) and NO shoe @5:28 at 5.0K (14:32). so he ran at least the last 5.0 K with no left shoe AND that's missing half your shoe area without spikes to give traction.
I realize the hubris of youth and peer pressure makes it seem like you should wearing short because everyone else is doing it....but at 35f....wearing tights, long sleeve shirt, hat and gloves will give you an advantage, it's basic thermodynamics, your body will spend less energy heating itself and more energy running.
I saw a lot of hats and gloves on the course afterward that athletes had tossed. 35 degrees really does not seem that cold when you are running at full throttle for a 6k or 10k race (especially when there is virtually no wind like today or if you are from parts of the country that have cooler falls).
@@cameronausenyep - you can also see Musau ditched his gloves before making a big push. I used to do the rowing machine shirtless in freezing weather with steam coming off me. Yes, your skin is cold, but your core is a furnace when you’re working like that
